In this episode, I will show you all the tools and spare parts that I carry with me. The total weight is about 5kg and inside I have the most important items to fix some problems on the road. As you know my Yamaha XT660Z is already on more than 140,000km and it could stop at any time. There is no guarantee that I will be able to fix all possible problems, but at least I can try.

Hey Pavlin, fine video again! The most important thing is, that riders have to maintain and equip their bike BEFORE the trip, at least 2 or 4 weeks!!! If well prepared, everyone can easily ride 10k. It's normal, that something can happen on the road. Very important for XT riders is a 12mm tool, the 22mm key for the rear axle and a 14mm hexagon key for the front wheel. Best is, to go from front to back of the bike and check the tools, one needs. I did this with my XTZ 660 (2008). Anyone who doesn.t have his main residence in a BMW garage, knows, what to do. Being prepared and knowing something about your own motorcycle, is essential, at least some basic knowledge of the own bike. And nobody is alone on the world, everybody can ask for help, and in most cases you get a coffee or a beer for free, or friends, or companionship, or a hosty family, or...what else. It all depends on oneself. I watched a lot of your vids, and this is one more of very helpful experiences for riders.Wish you well, Pavlin! Greetings from Henry

The best tool is preparation. Keep your bike always in shape make no compromises and it is good for 5 or 10K 👍

It is true, but when you plan more than that and the bike is not new it is better to be prepared.

For example: Jo Pichler drove on a brandnew KTM 790 more than 20K (!) without any issues across Africa. So youll need some spare tubes. Thats it! Because a new chain wont quit the job. If your bike is old you have to care about the maintanance and risks before the trip. In case of any problems with the motor youll need anyway serious help 🤓

I carry an epoxy putty, resembling plasticine, to fix a radiator or a broken clutch cover on the road. It is water-resistant and fuel-resistant after drying, not reacting with most chemicals. Dries in 10 minutes to create a hardwearing surface. Therefore, I do not take any seals. Weight always matters!

Pavvlin, I use a split link on my chain and carry a spare link as it’s far lighter and easier to change at the side of a road.

Really interesting tool kit. I especially liked the modified spanners and tyre lever that could be used with a sqashed metal tube to extend the leverage. Also the tip to see what size spanners your bike needs, and only take them. Many thanks Pavlin.

Best tool I bought was a Motion Pro trail tool, fits in the palm of your hand and can be used on many bolts and screws. It is good because of its size, fits in your tank bag so is easy to access and allows you to many small tasks without digging out your tool roll. Motion Pro have some really great tools, they are a little on the pricey end of the scale but well worth the investment.

1. Do you use the small cavity in the tank, under the seat (where the OEM Yamaha tool kit used to be) for anything? 2. Look for some zip ties that also have a steel wire through them. There is actually a version of them that you can easily undo after you tighten them (similar to the system on the one you used for keeping all your sockets together). Tied them somewhere around the bike and they might come in handy. 3. +1 on a Leatherman like multitool. As usual, a great video.

One thing i might add is to also use the tools to perform simple tasks like removing the wheel and take out the tube, otherwise you might not necessarily know what you need exactly.

Hello Fashion Guru! that box with electrical things is cool! My tip: I allwas carrying adjustable wrench.. You can make any number plus sometimes 2 wrenches of same number is needed as kontra.

Excellent video. I carry fewer tools, but my circumstances are different. I 've replaced part of the stock toolkit with better quality wrenches, added a few sizes Allen keys, an adjustable wrench and a 12V tester. I have Ride-On tyre sealant gel in my tires. I only carry a tubeless tyre repair kit on long trips. I live and ride in a densely populated area, so help is always a phone call away.

Well ! I fully understand your point of view, as an adventure rider and a tech guy but please beware that 80% of the so-called adventure riders today are just bike owners. And there is a new disease called RSA ( Road Side Assistance ), that does not allow new riders to learn anything about maintaining their bikes. But again thank you for the detailed videos and hope we get to more of the world with you .

Excellent. Spare bulbs _ legal requirements in some countries. Tiny pot grease Tiny wd40 Zip ties all sizes about 10 Wrap duct tape around tool handles, don't take the whole roll. All in a small child's pencil case. Happy, trouble free travels.

13:47 The left fork seal on my '15 MTS/S was leaking a while back.... purchased the Seal Mate... no more leak... a 'must have' tool. I wonder how many good fork seals have been replaced when all they needed was a quick cleaning?

Great video. Suggestion ... I was in the mountains once and lost water in my radiator. I really had a hard time filling it up again. Hard to get water into the radiator because of the angle, and I really needed a funnel. I always have one with me when I travel now. I found a plastic compressible one.

Why not hand air pump? Do you use rivited or clip master link? Is there no inner tube that fits both size tires?

I use to carry a pump, because of the size, but now I found a really small compressor. I riveted the chain, but I have a master link in case I need it. No universal tubes.

Thank you for another very informative video. There is some comfort in carrying those spares- it is better to "have it and not use it rather than need it but don't have it". As others have said, I too carry a 20cm adjustable spanner and a Leatherman for the knife/saw/pliers. Is there a brand name on your box of electrical spares?

As a mechanic I have to ask one thing. Don't you carry any kind of pliers with you for electric connectors etc? Or did I just miss them. Also was expecting to hear having valve stem tool on puncture kit.

I have a multi-tool with pliers in my tank bag. I will talk about it in my next video. One of my tube valve cap has this extension to remove the valve.

When planning a long trip in remote areas, why wouldn't you replace wear items like clutch plates, cables, chain, sprockets, etc. before you leave? Less chance of breakdown that way.

I do it always with chain, sprockets, wheel bearings and many more. Clutch plates I change when I have to. New plates could be also burned very easily on the sand, especially if you don't know what to do.

It is to regulate the voltage. Any bike has it. This is a spare part, not a tool.
