I own an M1000R, so thought I would address one or two issues raised in this review... 1: There was a lot of talk of how loud the bike is when idling. This was news to me. I live in a quiet village, own multiple bikes and not once did I think the BMW was loud. The thought did not even cross my mind. Any bike with a slipon exhaust would be louder. 2: Bad vibrations. I own a Hayabusa and an H2 as well, and of the 3 bikes, the H2 is the smoothest as it has two counterbalancers. The Busa and the M1000R are similar in that both are smooth with slight vibes around 4000 rpm and then once you rev past that point all these inline fours are just as smooth. If you're doing 75 or 80mph in the top gear on the M1000R the engine is quite smooth. I've owned parallel twins, boxer twins and those bikes can get properly vibey. 3: I think there was a mention that you can't have brake lever guards because of bar end mirrors. This is nonsense. Just see Evotech for clutch and lever guards that work with the mirrors. 4: Mirrors - There was a comment that bar end mirrors are not "right" for this bike, and belong to a retro bike or something. Same people at MCN would fall over themselves if they were reviewing a Triumph Street Triple RS and fanboy at the bar end mirrors on that bike. So a bit disingenuous I think. Final point to anyone considering this bike is to test ride it. I did 3 test rides before buying one as I was having an absolute blast each time. The M1000R is a fun bike and a total animal. Emphasis on fun! You can commute, tour and take it to the track. BMW dealers I have found (at least the one I went to) are quite chilled out and let you take the bike for a long ride and not some 30 minute excuse of a test ride, so give it a go if you're in the market.

i was a bit frustrated by the sound under the exhaust valve opening..(more or less 4500 rpm) So i just put the small motor (and the two cables that go to the valve) away and put an small electronic device to avoid an error, and now the sound is as it should have been from scratch. More grunt, louder but not in a bad way. When you ride it even at low revs it's a charm you fall for every time...

Stop using titles like “…too much for the road.” The politicians we hate that pass the road laws won’t care enough to read the article and will use the headline as a reason to strangle motorcycling even more, in the name of safety! Car magazines put stuff like that in the article rather than title, reducing the chance that it reaches the wrong eyes. Please pass this along to other journalists and influencers, etc. etc.

I bought the competition version in summer 2023 after listening to everyone saying how they hate keyless I was apprehensive, but I love it I replaced the fuel cap with a quarter turn billet cap that sorts out the problem of digging in your pockets for the key. I put the key in a zip pocket in my jacket and that’s it until I park the bike back in the garage.

I still have my 2011 K 1300 S and I love that bike. This was a really fabulous review of a bike. I think I’m gonna test ride, but I’m not gonna purchase it because I’m used to a fairing out in front of me, something to tuck in behind, and has mounts for saddlebags. The buzz in the handlebars on the hands and the mirrors is the same I believe for all inline fours. Both Honda CBR’s I had 1000f, and Blackbird had the same vibrations. Great review fellas! Thx.

The Suzuki GSXS1000's engine is extremely smooth, and comes stock with saddlebags and cruise control. However, I would consider it to be more of a "fat" 600cc bike. I had the F version, and it was a shockingly small motorcycle.

Saying this bike is too much isn't contentious - it's pure fact if looked at objectively. I own a couple of Triumphs, the newest being a 2023 Speed Triple RS. Anything over 110/120hp is far (far) more than you need for the road. Anything pushing 150+ is really just a track bike that is road legal. Most riders (if they're honest with themselves) also don't have the skills to truly get out of a super naked all that it can truly do - I know I don't, I just wanted a challenge! Now this all doesn't mean you can't love bikes like this, and I certainly love mine and commute to work on it (not far) all year in virtually all weather (outside of the very rare snow or ice), but anyone who thinks they 'need' something like this for the street is fooling themselves or dead-set upon hooliganism on the roads. No judgment intended since I ride one of these litre bikes myself, but I did buy it so that I could finally have a proper track bike as I'd out-grown what I was able to do with my mid-size sports bike that I used to use - being able to ride my Speed Triple to work in relative comfort (since it's a naked) is just a bonus.

For you all with average speed cameras and just so many cameras in general I don't think I'd have more than 100-150hp in a bike. Luckily in the U.S. we have a lot of space and at least fewer cameras (no average speed ones that I'm aware of). Why didn’t BMW make the front like the Tuono? I have an S1000R and every time I ride it and look over the front it just doesn’t look finished ! From the forks back I think it’s a great looking bike even the industrial exhaust is a work of art to me.

It's not formula 1 of noto gp ffs no one needs to extract maximum performance all the time out of the engine. Sorry for the rant! I'm not directing it at you I agree with you!

This is the only thing that made me concerned. I had 2016 S1000R back in 2016-2017 and it was buzzy, and it was my last bmw. I didn’t realize how buzzy it was until I purchased 2017 Tuono and all of the sudden mirrors didn’t vibrate. I have had many bikes since, but no BMW, mostly Ducati and KTM. I put a deposit down for MXR and fingers crossed this issue won’t make me hate the bike as I am sensitive to this one thing. Honestly when I rented more recent XRs I didn’t notice that much issue with the vibes and that gives me hope.

I had the Triumph Speed Triple 1200rs , amazing bike but once again a total waste of time in the Uk , 1st gear is already at the speed limit, totally pointless. For the Uk the only bike worth getting is the G310r and just ride around at 30 mph . I know that sounds stupid but the IS the reality of it. I did national down the A3 then its a 50 mph for a few miles then back to 70 mph and I was just riding along thinking 🤔 “ what an absolute bore this is “ I sold it back to the dealer. Waste of a bike , waste of money and a total waste of time. This bike if you lived in Germany would be an absolute delight to own 👍🏾

@@ThaBootyBandit I keep my racing off the street and on the road courses. However, as a pilot buddy of mine once said, YOU can never have too much power. Its how you choose to use that power that's up to you. Quite frankly, now that many electric vehicles can do an easy 9.2XX quarter mile at 155 MPH (Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Sapphire ), its no longer fun to just dust off a few cars on the road. The electrics have become quicker than the bikes. Finally, the new bikes have so many electronic nannies, you can literally take your M100 XR and ride it like a 500 if you want. OR unleash the beast and let er rip once you're more comfortable on it. Like I stated above, its your choice and thats the nice thing about FREEDOM.

I rode these at a demo event they are fun but limited. In the United States they aint good on open highway roads with lots of fast traffic. Country riding and country lanes is where they would be fun and enjoyable and still safe. They make a good sound but just a tad too little power for main roads here. I like them still though they look fantastic, especially the classic and I like the classic in the military spec. It just feels special.
