Emma's experience report was a real pleasure. She is very eloquent, knows exactly what she is taking about and is factual yet entertaining. For me, just seeing the photos of her on the motorcycle is enough to have complete confidence in her opinions. Definitely someone with whom I would like to spin a few laps on the racetrack. Please have more from her in the future and best regards.

Thanks emma and michael , i really enjoy these long term test reviews very thorough and relatable . The dislike points are particularly useful , something an owner you might chat with at your local biker cafe wouldnt necessarily bring up . Totally agree with emma on the build quality , its a work of art so please triumph dont do what everyone else does these days by dropping the finish to save money i’d rather pay a bitt more

Great review. I have a 2018 R, 17.4lt tank, and absolutely love it. Its been on tour to Wales, Scotland and The Picos. Personally think my era of R is one of the best kept biking secrets. Light, agile, economical, fun and with a great soundtrack. I don't understand why people buy naked bikes with more power. You can't use it on the road. Keep up the brilliant reviews.👍🏻

Have a 2020 RS, I think the dash is too busy/complex. In track mode I expected a rev and maybe gear focused display but still the speedo dominates with a barely readable rev. Would prefer the 23 R dash's simplicity. But everything said was spot on. It just makes you ride it like you stole it. If you not doing frequent track days go for the R. On the road like we have in the UK I keep the suspension settings on Road, saves your back for real-saying as a young(ish) person. Quality is top notch, better than some Japanese-no name shaming. A nuance to wash-as said, but everyone stares at it when I do in front of the garage. Emma was spot on with everything she said.

Good solid review. 2k miles on mine now and its brilliant. Full Exhaust system and custom tune on mine and it's knocking on 130bhp at the rear wheel. So much fun to ride, handles so well, so involving and versatile to ride and holds it's own in the fast group on track. Loses out on the longer straights but you can catch up through the corners. It's just brilliant.

IMO the rev-counter dash on the RS is terrible! I don't like the "wings" that change colour. Surely Triumph could easily change this with a firmware update? The display options on the Speed 1200 RS are way better. Just my opinion but I haven't heard many journos comment on it.

My Speed 1200's dash options are terrible compared to my old '18 Street Triple RS's. Speed has two options that are slight color changes and that's it. The '18 RS had 3 main options that changed the whole layout of the dash and tach. Not sure why Triumph continues to make the dash worse for the Speed and newer Street.

You said, that you don't know what the magic in this bike is that makes it feel a good fit for everyone, either a beginner or seasoned rider. And I think it's the torque distribution. You don't get thrown off at lower revs, but you can readjust the smile on your face with how quickly and how far you turn on the gas... :) (That in combination with the overall handling)

I always lower my bikes gearing, so I'd probably enjoy this. Usually they're geared way too long...
@marcusgeorge1825
@marcusgeorge1825 6 ай бұрын
@@lordgibbness For street riding I tend to leave them stock. However, when I was racing I’d use different sets all relative to the longest straight. The longer the straights the higher gearing. The only downside from nearly 1,000 laps around my old home track being Phillip Island is the start. Especially if you’ve qualified on the first 3 rows as in these positions, with sprockets to increase max speeds it also makes a quick launch a little bit harder as these grid positions are also up hill by just over 5%.
@lordgibbness
@lordgibbness 6 ай бұрын
@@marcusgeorge1825 yeah good idea to set accordingly on the track. For the road, I found both my supernaked's geared too high. My Aprilia, I added 4 teeth to the rear. My BMW, I took 2 teeth away from the front (although I may balance this a little by taking 1 tooth away from the rear also). My mt07 is quite short geared so it's pretty much how you'd want it stock (although it should be running a 520 chain really).
@marcusgeorge1825
@marcusgeorge1825 6 ай бұрын
@@lordgibbness Chain wise, I just stay with the size it comes with from the factory as they know more about this than most do and just have a couple of different sprockets as options.

@lordgibbness 6 ай бұрын
@@marcusgeorge1825 you'll have bikes like the Aprilia rs660 on 520 chains. Most 520s are rated up to 800cc. The 525 will last a little longer though. I always stick to 525 on my litre bikes (even though you can get very high quality 520 chains like they run in MotoGP - it's just not worth the cost).

Great video. Just love the R and the RS. I nearly bought the R (better price, good enough) but when i called my insurance company (also checked others) the insurance cost is insane here in Sweden. Its almost double the price as my Triumph 900 GT Pro. How is that possible? Then i checked the insurance cost at the 2023 Honda CBR650R and its around the same price as my 900 GT. Its a pity when you want a good second bike. No i just wait to try the new Honda Cbr650r or buy the 2023 model. Yes its a different bike but still a sporty bike. When i buy a second bike i consider even more the overall cost and a big part of that its the insurance cost. Its sad just love this Triumph R and RS 😢

I’ve be been kind of in the market for a Speed or Street Triple-my wife has an 18 765RS that she (and I) dearly love. It doesn’t have quite enough leg room for me, but I can still do a 5 hour country ride on it without too much trouble. We had a dealer demo day locally this summer and I was fortunate to try the R and RS street triples and the 1200RS… the RS had the leg room I was looking for, but a small tank and similar range to the superbikes I currently have range issues with…. On a bike I’m looking to ride longer distances with. To top it off, IMO, after riding them back to back the 765RS is just a better, more refined motorcycle than the 1200. I wish I could get one with more leg room…. Trident 765RS anyone? As for R and RS, I’d definitely go for the RS. It may only be a few percent here or there between them, but it’s a Big few percent and noticeable when ridden back to back. On the engine side it probably won’t matter if you reflash the ECU anyway as they are the same motor internally, but you don’t buy a premium naked like a Street Triple to get the less exciting option… that’s what middleweight twins are for..;)

It’s a shame after all that Moto 2 development they cannot stretch to a 3 year warranty. Also valve check comes in at 12k quite early in a bike life for a big money service. Most bikes are great blasting along flowing roads. But what’s it like when riding with slower riders and your short shifting all day. Does the drive train snatch and is the qs smooth when not under load. Some real world stuff we need to now. Not bothered what your favourite track is. By the way mines oulton.

The RS’s speedo display is an utter disaster, terrible arty-farty over complicated crap 💩! Also that rear brake line just bugs the hell outta me ☹️ Why make it silver! ..stands out like a sore thumb when the rest of the bike is black/greyish And,..such messy untidy routing, surely they could have put a little effort into hiding it behind the swing arm, it’s like they deliberately wanted to make it look as offensive as possible, get your act together Triumph 🤷🏻‍♂️?

I bought a 2018 Street Triple RS. Beautiful to look at. Amazing to ride. Would never buy another Triumph!!!!!! It spent more time in the dealers workshop because it kept breaking. Put me off for life. Buy Japanese!!!!

Having test ridden the RS and MT09SP on consecutive weekends back in October, my personal preference is for the Yamaha. It has the more refined engine in the top half of the revband, marginally better suspension and understandably more midrange torque. The one thing that I prefer on the Triumph is it’s less upright riding position.

I sold a RS I had because the suspension was so hard, even backed off. It wasn't a nice bike to ride and I felt the top end flat.
