Welcome to Motorhoming Adventures.
We very much hope you will subscribe to this new channel with our sincere thanks.
This is our film of two issues - firstly the conclusion of our warranty work after the engine management light came on but more interestingly our use of their weighbridge to check the weight of our motorhome against the maximum axle weights and overall weight. We had loaded the van to simulate our June 2022 trip to France for 3 weeks. The results were quite surprising.
We take you through our second trip to our local Fiat dealer in Cardigan, West Wales - B V Rees - who helped us finally resolve the issue under warranty :)
We used to upload our films to 'Offshore and Onshore Adventures' but have now had such an amazing response from all our subscribers that we have created this channel for all things motorhoming!!
(Our marine and boat adventures are now on our channel called Powerboating Adventures)

We are transferring our motorhome content from that channel across to this new one, together with lots of new films and travels coming very soon!! /

Slowly getting through these excellent videos. This is particularly interesting and important to right now trying decide which MH to go for. I’m hoping to get one with a 1000kg payload rather than a 350kg one. I think looking at your spreadsheet I know now which one I need.

Many thanks indeed for that Mick and I completely agree. It was that spreadsheet which brought me to the same decision - seeing the rear axle loads too. A couple of times in the last few weeks in France we travelled with full water because we were off gridding at the next stop - that's another 120kgs straight away! Plus full diesel at 90kgs and full adblue another 15kgs - it adds up quickly!! Good luck with the search and of course let us know what you decide on :)) - the exciting bit!!!

Great video Bob , what annoys me we were told unless we wanted to add a tow bar stick with the light weight chassis
@motorhomingadventures

Thanks Melvyn - I really don't think some sales staff properly understand how payload works and how important it is when choosing a motorhome. Add to that the difference across the motorhome brands of Mass In Running Order (MIRO) you can be left with next to zero payload when you've added a passenger and the very basic stuff!! It was an eye opener looking into all things payload !! :)

Very interesting. A reason why we have ordered a motorhome with a 4500kgs chassis with a user payload of over 1000kgs to ensure we are within the weights. Only the two of us. For years we have driven horse lorries and have been concious of being pulled in and weighed.

That’s absolutely right Eddie !! It’s really good peace of mind when you’re all loaded and ready to go!! We’ve just added VB Semi-Air Comfort to the rear and that’s made a big difference too to load bearing and ride - that film will be out next week 😁👍

@@motorhomingadventures 😂😂thanks for the bike offer but like you we have a tow bar and air suspension so are also looking at a scooter and trailer option now , but we already tow a VW Up, behind us on a A Frame which you can’t tow in Europe so more money to be spent if we want to buzz about when away in Europe 🥲it’s always a compromise isn’t it . Look forward to your next travels . Thanks again 👍

Hi Bob, interesting video again thanks. Intrigued with the faulty sensor. I have gone through a world of pain with a bmw 2010, 120i similar issue, I chased several theory's I had, eventually got there through stubbornness and a cheap diagnostic tool and I mean cheap, interpretation is everything is what I found out the hard way . Anyway Its interesting to hear how fiat use there diagnostic to get to the fault. I assume you have had no other issues since. I am pretty sure my new to me 21 van will have ad blue. Rgds Gerry

@motorhomingadventures Жыл бұрын
Hi Gerry and thanks for that :) No more issues at all and the van hasn’t missed a beat since that - fingers crossed for France this year!! Yes you’ll be à Euro 6 which of course is great as there aren’t any LEZ charges yet in UK or elsewhere. A few years down the line it might be different I suspect!! I did look at some of those diagnostic tools online too wondering if I would get one but my Cardigan dealer has been really helpful so I haven’t bothered yet. You’re payload on the GF looks fine but it is a different story on the lighter chassis as the MIRO doesn’t include much at all for Mobilvetta as you saw! 4 sleeps to go!! 😁

Hi just started watching your videos I like how you explain different subjects my question is to you I have a a card about the same size as yours an outline 7.4 m long 2.95 by the chassis weight on the logbook says 3650 kg gross can you please tell me if I need them angle more stickers for this vehicle because it is under 3 1/2 ton look forward to your next videos STEVE

Hi Steve, Many thanks for watching and for your feedback. We’re glad you like the content!! If you are over gross 3.5t then you’d need Angle Morte for France as you’re plated at 3.65t (Only France). They come off easily with a hairdryer to warm them up and a carful peel/scrape; then a tiny bit of white spirit for any adhesive residue if it leaves any :) Hope that helps Steve and thanks again 😁😁🚌

Don't those axel weights include a full tank of fuel and 2 people sat in the front seats?
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures Жыл бұрын
Hi Matterhorn, Many thanks for watching and it depends on your van and what they define as Mass in Running Order, which was written in our information about the van when we bought it. Manufacturers do vary. Ours included the driver only and full fuel hence I messed around with the water ballast to simulate more people. The mechanic acted as the one driver. Then adding all our intended luggage for European travel proved the heavier chassis was our only route 😁 The heavier chassis means perhaps different tolls on European toll Roads or perhaps different parking costs sometimes but key for us was travelling was NOT having to worry about overweight and therefore uninsured. The final results were interesting and useful when deciding what chassis you might choose. Hope that helps 😁🚌 (let me know if you wanted more info)

Hi Philip and thanks for watching 😃 I loaded up the water both fresh and grey to simulate more than both of us (weight combined) to get a more accurate idea 😃

as for your weigh bridge calculations ,,you will find you are slightly off the mark ,,because to be weighed correctly .the vehicle should have a full tank of fuel and a full water tank ,plus both passengers should be in the vehicle at the time of weighing ,,, ,,,and the German police are very hot on campers and motor homes especially for weight ,,which is why all traffic police in germany carry mobile weight pads ,and that includes police motor cycles
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Eddie and for your feedback :) We were running with fuel right up but I also simulated additional passengers by filling fresh water to 100kgs and filling grey water to 90kgs so counteracting the lack of 'us' in the vehicle when compared to the MIRO figure. The bottom line was the front and rear axle figures and the excess we still have to play with which was the reassurance bit. I think the exercise made us thankful we chose the 4400 chassis which still gave us/gives us plenty of scope once we are in the vehicle too. We only run with around 20kgs of water so I was 170kgs over that on the weighbridge. It's a useful thing to do though and something that should perhaps feature more in the buying process for all types of van :)) Thanks again Eddie :)
