Followed the clear instructions and I managed to dry the different parts the were involved in the "water incident" with the phone. I used a hair dryer at low speed, just for 15 to 20 seconds trying not to over heat the electronics and glues, reassembled and the phone works. I did not removed the battery, I slightly lift from 2 corners and blew the warm hair all around it.The phone works so far. Thank you for the video.

Thanks man, this was really helpful! Although I wish you had showed how to remove the battery, it was pretty daunting as it deformed like clay when I pried it with a plastic stick and it was stuck really tightly even after heating. Anyways, got the screen replaced thanks to you.

Your welcome. Ya the batteries bend easily, next time try using a membership card you don't need or a old credit card etc. Those tend to work the best

I don´t know if you showed it, sorry if you did it but I got a bit stuck when I extracted the mainboard. I had forgotten to take away the sim holder. ;) Thanks for the vid anyways.

Yeah lol, it's happened to me a lot back in the day, so I make sure now a days on the newer uploads to mention and pull out the sim tray in the start before doing anything else. :) You're welcome

nice video but what do I have to do if I dropped the phone in water? (it happened yesterday and it's still not working)

First, never try to power it on if it came in contact with water. It would cause more damage. You would need to take it apart, dry any liquid inside and brush off any corrosion with a tooth brush or something similar. Make sure there is no corrosion around the connectors and chips and then try powering on the phone to see if it works. If not then parts in the phone have become damaged already and you would need to test to see which one by trying replacement parts one by one to see if its the battery, screen, or the board itself.

Thankyou for this. I'm having trouble finding a *genuine* Motorola battery for this. Ifixit doesn't seem to have the je40 (though it does have ga40 and gk40, I wonder if those will work?)

@@Locrian1 As long as the part numbers and branding are all original, it should be good to go just match them to your original battery. The only ones that you should worry for would be ones with a different branding or part number on the batteries which indicate third party manufacture. But ya usually places like ifixit would carry oem original. Mattery of time I guess until they carry it.

Yes, so if your screen isn't broken, I wouldn't take the risk of possibly breaking the screen prying it off if I absolutely didn't need to.

Thank you. You need to pry the screen off to gain access to removing or replacing the buttons, so if you don't absolutely have to replace them then don't risk taking the screen off and damaging it unless your screen is already broken.

Once you take the phone apart, you would need to also remove the battery and then heat the front of the screen up a bit to loosen up the adhesive and then pry the screen off from the frame. Then apply new adhesive and run your new screens cable through the slit in the mid frame and re apply the new screen to the frame and re assemble the phone

@@PBKreviews i took my phone to fix a broken display, but now it cant get a signal from the chip. It was fine even after the screen broke (upper left side), and wifi and gps still works. Also, the chip still gets recognized. What could they have done wrong?

@@xXMaukiorXx Not sure, did you try a different sim card to see maybe the sim went bad? Its also possible they might have not re-assembled it properly and the plastic covers which house the antenna lines to get signal etc. are not seated properly in place to make contact. Or lose cables as well. Best bet first check the sim card then try taking the back off and disassembling the covers and make sure all the cables are in place and the board and everything looks seated in place correctly.

@@PBKreviews Do I really need to take the battery out before I change the display? The kit I bought doesn't have enough adhesive to glue the back glass too...

@@leonardorenzi2861 Yea you would need to remove it to be able to run the cable for the screen through the frame and connect it to the board. The battery adhesive should be able to be re-used. If not you can always buy cheap adhesive online. I have a few links in description for adhesive.

my motorola had a cracked screen, didnt really care it was still use able, then, it started smoking at the bottom of the screen near the charging port and now the screen is completely black, when i plug it in i hear the charging sound, i'm getting notifications and it still rings, what could have been smoking and why? please help.

Your screen probably got pressure damage since the cracks made the glass weak and it started bleeding. You would need to replace the screen

Hi. My Motorola one kept stopping all of my apps then it said the Android system stopped. My battery starting dying and then I had to Factory reset my whole phone twice for it to work. Now my phone won't turn on pass the starting Android part and completely shuts off. Is the battery the problem?

Hmm not sure, it could be the battery but probably seems to be a firmware issue/software issue. Have you tried doing a manual factory reset by holding the volume down and power button until it goes to bootloader then doing scrolling down to system recovery?

You would need to pry the back plate off then pry off the camera glass cover and replace it with a new one and then apply adhesive and put the back cover back on.

Holy shit, what a nightmare! I've replaced batteries on a few phones and this looks by far, the most difficult one. Manufacturers really do make sure you have a hard time fixing stuff, fucking crooks. Guess I'll just stick to recharging the phone a few times a day then..

It's not the easiest nor the most difficult. Some phones are way worst than this lol. This one is a breeze when it comes to a few models.. I just would not replace the battery on a few but instead replace the phone :)

@@jamesduran7897 ya, same. The -4 is just which region version the phone is. They all should be using the same battery for same model device.
