Posting from Canada, we did get the ZXR 750 but of course have never been gifted these beautiful 400-4’s! What a machine. We are now getting the new ZX-4RR which is an amazing machine! We did luck out with the 400triples and the RD series of bikes including the 350LC and others…all gone way too soon!

The ZXR400 is a fantastic little bike, my first bike and I still have it 18 years later, added 70,000 km easily. Added the ZX-4RR to the stable a few months ago and love it as well. Similar engine (12 hp more) but a more lenient rider triangle and modern suspension makes it quite a bit easier to ride, quickshifter is awesome. Great brakes too. But if you really want to push, the ZXR just has the more fitting rider triangle. The ZXR400 Braking rotors are great, have those fitted too with EBC HH Goldstuff pads and steel braided hoses to eke the maximum out of the stock master cylinder and calipers.

I don’t really do jealousy, but I’ll make an exception for this. It’s beautiful (apart from the air hoses). No wonder you love it.

I love my zxr 400........ mines a 1992 L model just like yours,... i also own a zontes r310 hahahaaa love the like mindedness! .......... my view of the zxr is it is a torture rack when it comes to comfort, its a solid 2/10and the suspension is hard for the track, when you do open these little pocket rockets they absolutely fly!! 14.5k for a gear change.... bare basics no frills not even a fuel guage hahahaaa happens to all of us. (just remember to reset the odo every fuel stop)

Nice little review Mark. I’m the same height as you so I know what you mean about being cramped up. One of my bikes is a RS250 aprilia, very similar in size and performance of your 400. Definitely not an all day touring bike, but an absolute gem for a short 40 mile blast round the country lanes. Hope you enjoy your bike & keep up the good work with the channel👍

Nice bike Mark , I Had a 1991 ZXR400L in Sabre Airways Race colours around 2001. It absolutely flew ! & Surprisingly comfortable 2 up ... I had a 95 ZX6R & a 98 ZX6R & a 2001 ZX6R but I never liked them as much as my little 400 .... The sound from the airbox was amazing when it opened up ... Which it often did "But to legal speeds Orificer, Honestly" .... Mind you no speed cameras around then 😉 .👍 Enjoy & ride safe ....

Awesome bike. The colors and stickers not to my taste, but I'm not the one riding it. Would be cool to see a side-by-side comparison with the new ZX4RR when that comes to the UK. Would be cool if you could do some flyby clips at full throttle.

Looks beautiful. I've got a W650 and have done the same thing with the pet cock, ie running out of fuel and then suddenly remembering ( to my joy ) that I had a reserve. I checked the specs of your bike, and found that ' back in the day ' they were capable of around 130 mph. Well, according to the specs, anyway.

I am about to buy 1996 zzr400 what is your opinion???
