I agree. Motorweek had a huge bias towards American made cars in the early 90's episodes. They seem to come full circle somewhere in the late 90's. What more could you could expect from a PBS program from Nowhere, Marlyland?

+Philip Koen I've actually never had a problem with the gas struts on any of my cars. I prefer the struts in fact. I think it makes the car look more expensive
@MrGoogelaar
@MrGoogelaar 8 жыл бұрын
+illstplaya So you prefer struts that you only see while the bonnet is open above a rod that will last the life of the car because it makes the car look more expensive? That is exactly what manufacturers want, they trick people with lots of unnecessary and impractical gimmicks that "look good and expensive" but ad no real value or comfort to the car and will not last. This is one of the reasons why some vehicles have such bad resale values, a lot of this "expensive looking" things are not working properly a few years down the line and it makes the car look worn out. A few night ago I stopped at a fuel station and there was this guy with his Audi checking oil or whatever with the bonnet propped up by a broomstick, the collapsed struts did not make the car look expensive but the stick made it look quite tired. I prefer things to work properly above "to look more expensive" A rod will last the life of the car while the struts will definitely not last the life of the car. Different strokes for different folks.

I was around when this new 300zx was released.These cars had nothing wrong with them except they where EXTREMELY EXSPENSIVE !!! especially for a non turbo coming in at 30k back in the early 90 's This was a really good looking car when it was released and still would look good today but they just couldn't get the price point where it should have been.The twin turbo was legitimately fast and that was in stock form.The Supra had the same pricing issues and that's what in my opinion killed them off.It was never an issue of looks or even performance it was just to expensive.

The 300ZX Twin Turbo came out when I was 5 years old. For many years, it was the car I wanted, but when the USA got the Evo VIII and WRX STI, my interests changed. I learned a great deal about cars from the May 1998 issue of Sport Compact Car, the title was "How to get 450 Horsepower From A 300ZX." I learned what a mass air sensor was, and it gave me an understanding about how computerized engines worked.

I’ve been binge watching loads of these old review clips. Great fun. I note they turn a consistent blind eye to crummy performance and build quality of many tacky old American cars, yet they chose to single out the less-than-revolutionary bonnet strut on the 300ZX. Tut tut! Shame on Nissan!

$30,000 in 1990 is equivalent to over 60,000 today. Today in 2019 you can buy a loaded Honda Civic Turbo for 27,000 and get a faster car with much better fuel economy and much cheaper insurance. The Z might have been a great car back then, but its nice to see you get a lot more for your money nowadays.

Not that weird if you develop a car for the Japan market then have to import to North America. In 1991 the z32 received an airbag. I think that's pretty common sense? NX was a 'kinda' different sentra chassis, give me a break.

+hartsickdisciple There are so many variables, temperature, elevation, track condition, driver ability etc.. So, 9 times out of 10, you won't see a "best case scenario" acceleration time.... hartsickdisciple You're trying to say that if the same driver launched a car on a gravelly track, and a 95° day, at 6000 feet of elevation. It would only be 0.2 seconds slower than on a sticky track, with cool weather, at sea level? Not sure I agree with you there.
