This is the configuration that sparks the terminology war between 180º-V and Boxer and Flat. It's definitely not a Boxer because opposing sets of pistons have to move in opposite directions on independent crank journals to be a Boxer, as its predecessor, the 512 Berlinetta Boxer was misnamed. This engine has opposing con rods on the same journal on the crank, hence the 180º V name. But people don't like calling a wide open V a V. I don't mind calling a 180º V a Flat engine though.

Having driven one for over 1,000 miles, I can honestly say it was, and IS one of the most comfortable cars to drive long-distance. I drove one from Pennsylvania to South Carolina, and loved every mile. The seats are very comfortable and broad, the cabin is spacious, the clutch was good, gearing was easy....everything was comfortable and the car was fast-enough to really have FUN with it. Comparing this car (from 1988) to today's performance is really ignorant. Ever heard of progress? Technology advances. Discoveries are made. You have to appreciate the car from the time it was in being built with the techniques that were known. Like the Mona Lisa. In today's world, using photoshop, you could "hand paint" the same thing digitally, but it wouldn't be "better". Because cars are just utility to most people in the world, it's easy to overlook the art form of engineering and passion that the Ferraris of old (and today) exhibit.

The 6.3 V12 in the F12 is pushing 730hp so pretty much double. Inflation adjusted the Testarossa would run $250,000 so a fair amount less than the F12 ($350,000)

There is a scene in the 1986 thriller “52 Pickup” where you see both the price of gas and the price of cigarettes.

When I was a kid the local Recycler had one for 18k, I tried so hard to get my Dad and Cousin to buy it. Neither listened to me.

Interesting that a 94 Chevy Caprice cop car with the LT1 engine beats this (except the final speed), comes with 4 wheel ABS, and a trunk space to haul tons of police equipment (or two uncooperative suspects), and it costs 25K. Plus, it drives through center dividers.

What advantages does this motorcar have over, say, a Plymouth Colt Vista, which I could also afford?

Boy was he wrong at 6:20.. Saying the Lamborghini Countach lacked the Testarossa's resale potential... WAAAYYY wrong.. You can get a Testarossa these days for 50, 60 grand.. A Countach?? Cheapest one I could find was $315,000!!!!
@jacquenoir78769 жыл бұрын
bliglum You won't buy a Testa Rossa for 60 grand anywhere !!!

I've seen one or two that cheap where I live (southeast U.S.) But yes, for a GOOD one, it would be closer to 100K. : )Jacque Noir

There's a clean looking black one for sale right now in the Dupont registry NY for just 89K. Admittedly, the ones I saw for 50 or 60K probably needed some of that famously expensive Ferrari maintenance!Jacque Noir

bliglum Its crazy how much the countach has gone up in value. I remember in 2011 seeing several for only a little over $100k.
