There's something magical about those moulding planes

I've been looking for ideas for a sticking board when I use my Stanley 45. Workpiece holding has been my biggest bugbear, especially when cutting into tough Australian hardwoods. Thanks for the video and ideas.

Love the demo of using a molding plane a your sticking board. This is the first time I have heard of or seen on in use.

It would be hard to work without one. Quick to make too. Take care. Darren

Thanks for sharing your references for learning. I have been learning to make the side-escapement planes after first learning to use them last year. You're right, they are fun!

That would be interesting to see. Ashame we have to do all this through video. Good to hear from you. Take care. Darren

You did well to point out the possibility of skips and inconsistencies in the mid-section of the molding by improper technique. It is a matter of maintaining blade engagement at all times and this is a touchy feeley thing….. it also requires concentration…the pace of the stroke must be such that there is no erratic application of force. You DID make this point well enough I feel……nice job!

Excellent video, well presented and very informative. One small, somewhat silly question, what type of brush do you use in the video? It looks very nice and very useful. Thank for making these videos. Please keep up the good work! Rick Wilson

Thanks for this-great to learn of this board and how to make. If you are inclined some day to showcase the forming/shaping a virgin cutter blank into the profile of one of your planes, that would be appreciated. If you know of a direction that already discusses this, that would be welcome as well. Thanks for sharing.
