Legend has it that a giant used to live on this steep cliff called Kaarnavuori, literally "Bark Mountain," on the shores of Luonteri, which is part of Lake Saimaa in eastern Finland. The 50-meter-tall cliff has the largest outward protruding rock ledge in Finland, roughly 6 by 10 meters in size. It was formed when the granite below was consumed by ice and erosion after the last ice age. Supposedly, the door to the giant's home was right under the rock shelf.
On August 5-7, 2020, I made a 120-kilometer long kayaking trip around Luonteri and Lietvesi, another part of Lake Saimaa. I didn't spot any giants, nor any Saimaa ringed seals which the area is famous for, but I did enjoy some magnificent sceneries, and this Mount Kaarnavuori was absolutely the best of all. I camped overnight nearby in a tent, and spent hours admiring this formation. It is only accessible by boat, and best by a kayak, because the bay is littered with huge boulders, barely under the surface. Probably the giant liked throwing pebbles around.
