I started this journey at South Plains so that I could experience the descent down the Llano Estacado into the canyonlands below. It was a total blast flying down this feature at about mile 3. Clarity tunnel was awesome and there were hundreds of bats flying over my head as I walked through it. Be prepared for a potential flat tire as portions of this trail are rough.

Actually the town that Caprock Canyons is part of is, Quitaquay, Texas, pronounced kittyquay. We live in Texas and have been camp hosts there. It's the 3rd largest canyon in the U.S. we love your videos. The funky odor in the tunnel is bat dung, and owls wait outside at night for the bats to come out. There's hundreds of them. We never walked in, only in trucks because the bat dung is all over the top, sides, and floor of that tunnel.

Just discovered your channel. This vid was especially interesting to me because my best friend lives in nearby Lockney and I'm hoping to move to the area in a couple months. I love biking and had no idea this was in the area. Now that I do, it could become my go to spot!

You are a brave man for going through that tunnel. It is well constructed, but the bats would scare me away. How about snakes?
@secretsoftexas6872
@secretsoftexas6872 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't see any signs of snakes in the tunnel. I had a light but didn't want to mess with the bats in the middle of the tunnel. I did see some incredibly fast prairie snakes (i think)outside though.

Thanks for the video. I was thinking of riding the South Plains to Quitaque section over the holidays, but it looks a lot less maintained and rougher than expected. Most of the videos on this trail are several years old, and I think the weather has taken its toll.
@secretsoftexas6872
@secretsoftexas6872 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's mainly the rough gravel that's the problem for the first couple miles and then here and there over small sections beyond that. Overall I enjoyed it though. If you have fresh tires with slime inner tubes you may be okay.

Planning to ride South Plains to Estelline, like maybe one day to Turkey Hotel, then Estelline. Have you ridden the rest of the trail east of the tunnel?

More than 100 million years ago, a giant inland sea divided North America into two smaller landmasses. This sea stretched from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to Montana! Even though much of the American West is dry desert today, its character was shaped by the many years it spent under water.
