Part I: This film will feature the a trail mashup in Fruita, Colorado starring the new Hawkeye trail and West Mack Ridge. The Mack Ridge was once an under utilized area on the West end of the Kokopelli Loop trail system, but with the inception of the new Hawkeye, I wanted to show you a real gem of a loop. This area of trails aren’t as sexy as the Horsethief Bench, Rustler’s loop, or Mary’s Loop, but that doesn’t mean they can’t compete as a serious Fruita Ride.
Mack Ridge trail description: A difficult black diamond trail with no mandatory drops, however there are 3 technical roller bits and plenty of chunder in areas flirting with the double black diamond ratings. The last technical roller will require an endo turn or “trials” equivalent. 3X drivetrains will get eaten alive out here so target using a high clearance sled with plenty of rolling diameter. Bring plenty of repair gear and accident protection because things will get violent on west mack.
After west mack, we’ll move to an uphill climb on the lion’s double track and complete the lollipop portion of the loop. In Part II we’ll see the new Hawkeye trail ridden as a downhill.

I was just talking to Sheyn tonight about how to extend Hawkeye since it's a bit too short... We'll have to try this lollipop loop!

Yeah Kyle! After much experimentation with the Hawkeye, its way too short for being to long lol. I found this to be the 2nd best loop in the western edge. If you figure 8 the climb and go Hawkeye, Mack Ridge West, Lion's, come back Mack Ridge to East Mack Ridge hike a bike and down. That's actually probably the most fun route because the bomb on East Mack is stellar! East Mack is a really fun downhill!

Outdoor Gold good to know, I've only ever climbed East Mack to hit Hawkeye the day that the trail was first officially opened. I've been wondering which is the best way to ride mack ridge

Yes sir, Hawkeye on the first day was super skinny lol. Mack was pretty confusing for riding, but I think Hawkeye helped it out. When it doubt about the best way to ride, do an "out and back". Put downhill East Mack on your list, its fast. Hawkeye to West Mack to Troy built is pretty solid too, but the climb out of Troy is pretty rough.

There's some serious GNAR hanging out there! Mack Ridge and Moore Fun top the list in Fruita for most tech per capita! The nice part is few people ride them! Thanks cellphonenut!

What camera gear setup do you use for riding footage? Very clear and smooth.

My camera setup has a GoPro Hero 4 black and an EVO SS gimbal. The go pro is not housed in the waterproof shell on the gimbal, so that basically maximizes the picture and sound quality.

Is their a trail that goes to Moab from fruita?

Yes, it’s called the Kokopelli Trail. It’s about 150 miles of primarily multi-use trail, with a few areas of non-motorized trail.
