This video will show the snippets of the Hymasa climb, but we are going to primarily look at the downhill technical cruxes of both upper Captain Ahab and Lower Captain Ahab. There are several steep technical climbs, climbing is boring so were are not going to see those. By the way, some are exceptionally hard, especially one at the top of the trail.
Some beta for the trail. If you are new to Captain Ahab and are an average rider like myself, be sure to do your due diligence and "preride" the technical features. I made a mistake in winter 2017 of not "preriding" a drop at the end of lower ahab and taking a drop too slow. An off camber rock was all that was needed to break several ribs. If you take the drop without checking it out, you might be less fortunate. Also, a busy Saturday will see a ridiculous amount of people, if you want to bomb the trail, pick an off peak time like around 2:00 or 3:00 pm (depends on the time of the year), the trail will usually begin to clear out.
Also, when you gain the summit of the trail, Ahab is not really a true downhill descent, its more like a rollercoaster with some short and strong technical climbs still on the menu.
Average riders can ride this between 2-4 hours depending on skill level and crowd sizes.
