Our companion animals are not made to be with us a long time, but what they lack in quantity of time they make up in quality of impact during their stay with us. At they end of a dog’s life, they seem to know they did their job by them going first and their master is safe. Whether they pass away at 6 or 16 it never seems to be enough time, and after they are gone life just doesn’t feel quite the same. That gap they leave in our daily lives is proof that they are still with us throughout the years, following right beside us in spirit where they belong.

You are some kind of fella, an absolute legend. One hell of a spokesman for a pure natural way of life, as it has been intended, in the tradition of the men that came before you. Thank you for filling that rare place in this world.

The days me and my two hounds spent hunting together were the happiest of my life. Memories!

Loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult things for mankind, as well as our companion animals. Having seen both sides of this I can relate I reckon. My old mare was 7 yrs old when my 1st son was born. Boy was 3 days old when he made his 1st trip to the barn. Didnt take long to realize the boy had 2 mommas. God had better places for the boy to be some 17 yrs later n the boy went home. Old mare followed him bout 4 yrs later, but I'll tell ya she never stopped looking for him. I could tell the way she looked around us quite often to see if he was coming along. Reckon ya dont ever stop missing those that have gone home even our four legged friends. I know what it's like to have a good hunting dog get old and go for ever but there is one thing that you can always remember all of the good times that we had together and it always makes me smile and be thank full for the awesome memories . Seeing him shed tears over the reminder of his dog passing away made me shed tears...I remember my father shedding tears at the loss of his hunting dog... a german shorthaired pointer. Real men are like that... it's what they do... words cannot express that kind of pain. We need many more Randy's in this country.

beautiful walker and lion.... dog was more than a tool, it was family. I cried like a baby when we lost Amy, bluetick/retriever and we haven't been able to replace her.

Randy, I too hunted Mtn. Lion in Montana. I was impressed that you skinned the kill in the field. P.S. Our climate is not as harsh as Big Wonderful Wyoming. We get a lot of mild weather that slips over the border from Alberta. I enjoyed seeing all of the places that I have been in BWW. In January of 1980 I saw an antelope migration going past Boar's Tusk strung out towards South Pass. What a sight!

Awesom story man! There’s nothing like the experience of a hard hunt with father and son!

I had a Weimeraner dog I hunted with and he could read my mind - he was amazing and any time I went off with the Army, he took over the house and protected the family. He died over 30 years ago and I have never been able to get another dog. I remarried in 2003 and have a 10 year old boy in the house now who has been pestering me for a dog as he has grown up on stories about my Weimeraner. I finally relented and got a Vizsla dog who is now three months old and already we are really strongly bonded. Life goes on, he will never replace my old dog but we will have new experiences and love I can share with my son for him to pass on such experiences. There is nothing like the bond between man and dog.

Sounds like quit an Adventure. I've had a Couple of Great Dogs over the years. We had our Adventures too. They Become Family. They are still Very Dear to me. Thanks for telling that exciting story. I would like to hear more stories from you. Best Wishes. M.H.

I don't think everybody stops to realize that a good pair of hounds are life saving specimens. If that big cat gets a hold of you and rakes you with its back legs you're in a whole world of trouble. In 6 ft of snow 50 miles from the nearest surgical center. Thanks for telling a really good story about hunting big predators with a dog that your family very obviously loved.

Thank you Randy for sharing a great memory of hunting, I often think back to hunting the Cumberland MTNS in Tennessee as when I was scaling a cliff and almost to the top I noticed a hornets nest about eight feet from me and about 250 feet to the bottom, sometimes there's hard choices in life. I recently found your channel and I must say that it is one of my favorites. I am 39 years old and sitting here listening to your stories bring back fond childhood memories of my grandfather. I would sit for hours just listening to his hunting stories and adventures in the wild. Thank you for that. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him, this just make it feel like he is still here. Also your rifles are beautiful. I hope one day that I financially able to have a custom rifle crafted by you. Then I might be lucky enough to is and listen to a story or two in person!

We are becoming a rare breed. To see how touched you were at the end of video . I would like to offer you a very select bred walker pup . Male or female it doesn't matter if you would like one. It will be born in May . This line very rarely leaves my immediate circle. You won't be disappointed if you choose to take one . I just started watching your channel today 7/15/20.I was looking up more info on the 6.5 cm and was brought to your channel.The first thing I noticed was how much you remind me of my grand dad.He was a very experienced hunter nothing like what you hunt because we live in Indiana so it's whitetails ,Turkeys and coons.Anyway after watching a few of your videos I've noticed how big of a heart you have towards man an beast alike .My Grand dad was the exact same .I lost him quite a few years ago but I gained a wealth of knowledge from the man before he past away.Anyway I just wanted to say I very much enjoy watching your channel ,you have some great hunting stories and alot of information that any hunter can use.

I do enjoy the deer woods I've have enjoyed hunting for the better part of 30yrs. I will probably never have the privlage of hunting mountain lion. Damn Awesome story, I live and hunt in S Ky and Tennessee and I cant imagine even a foot of snow much less 6 !!! I’ve owned several dogs hunting squirrels and raccoons and a old walker hound is hard to beat, I’ve had a couple Mt. Kerr dogs that were good in the daylight but after dark I want a walker !!

I wished i would have grew up with gentlemen like your self around. My father wasnt into guns and never owned one. Now im in my late 40s and im reloading and trying to make up for lost time lol. Wished texas had more public land to hunt on.

First of all, I want to say that I'm sorry that you had to experience the loss of your pup. That's a damn hard thing to have to live and go through and it seems the older I get the harder it is on me. I am a HUGE dog lover. I am more than sure that your pups had the best possible lives they could've ever dreamed of. Secondly, the entire Lion hunting story was just incredible, I was on the edge of my seat during the whole video, felt like I was right there with you, your son, your pups and that old bastard cat! I have to admit that I got a nice big laugh when you said it was up there in that tree cowering and shaking so badly as I'm not much of a fan of cats in general and they live their entire lives surviving on being cruel and killing smaller weaker animals. And though that's just the way nature is, I u derstand that, believe me I do, but it still doesnt mean I have to like it, and the fact that that cat got a taste of it's own medicine, getting run down by hounds, cowering up a tree, getting shot 3 times, it is all just rewards for a Mountain Lion in my opinion, haha. Fantastic story, sir! I certainly hope to hear you share many more 'classics from the vault' so to speak, haha. Plus all the priceless knowledge, information, tips and education you doll out to us free of charge is just incredible and I'm very thankful for all that you share with us. Gosh, if I could just go back to being in high school now and pay attention and apply myself so I could've gone to school to be a machinist and get into the gunsmithing business would be a dream job for me. I know the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence but I am %99.9 sure that I would enjoy every day of going to work if my job was working on and with firearms, customizing them and making absurdly tight toleranced bolt action rifles in particular from cheapie little deck3d out rimfires to surgically precise benchrest all the way up to building bolt rifles that people could depend on with their lives while hunting or working with the biggest most dangerous game on earth and beyond. Hounds the mark on our lives unlike any other. But losing one ear best hunting companions weather for like it or to is the hardest of all things and a man and his dog they are a team and more.

I really enjoyed hearing this, thank you for the excellent story and information. The predator rebound across the country as a whole is incredible, and knowing more about their power and resiliency should be important for everyone, hunter or not. I'm in my thirties and grew up in Maine, where we were told it was a certainty that the largest predators around were bobcats and a few coyotes. When I was small people would see lions occasionally, just far enough apart that they had to be from separate stocks. I don't know of any attacks but I do know a dozen or so people, including my sisters, who have seen prints, lions themselves, or even been stalked. This is on top of wolverine, lynx and wolves getting legitimate sightings (again even within my family) hundreds of miles from recognized ranges. As timbering and dairy die these animals have blossoming corridors of de-explored transitional ecosystems that make threads of wilderness deep into very settled country. Meanwhile there's no forthcoming research or sharing of input about what impact they could be developing, so I really appreciate hearing your opinions and memories.
