I skied telluride for the first time last season. It’s now one of my all time faves and is worth the arduous journey to get there. The surrounding mountain scenery (especially if you drive to the south or the northeast) is nothing short of stunning, rivaling places like Chamonix IMO. The big downside, I found, is the lodging expense. Telluride is super expensive but I found reasonably priced accommodations 45 min away in the beautiful town of Ouray. If you want to rub shoulders with celebrities and hedge fund managers and get some good skiing in while you do it this is the place to go.

I agree with most of the content and assessment. What most don't understand until you ski there is that Telluride has a truly unique feel and experience than most other destinations. It's my favorite ski destination because of how well the town and the mountain flow together. It's a magical place! Low crowds doesn't hurt either!

I learned to ski in Telluride and went there yearly growing up because my best friend was a hippie who lived in town and was a surveyor. He moved there in the 70's and it was a blast. Still looks great.

Went to Telluride for the first time last September for a week of vacay and to explore Colorado via road trip since I moved to it a couple years ago. Even in the off season the place is a dream. It feels frat af, but also super chill. The town is rad, the public gondolas make life so great, and you don't need a car to get anywhere. 10/10 would recommend.

Thank you for this review...very comprehensive! I went to Telluride (or ToHellYouRide) as it was known 29 yrs ago. It was amazing. It was like stepping into the past but in a good way. There were no other villages I believe & the old town strip was like from the gold rush era. Man was it stunning around & on the mountain. Great for couples & everyone else. It's different now BUT still should be on every skier & riders bucket list. You got to see it for yourself. Driving UP a mountain to Flyi OFF OF THE MOUNTAIN's EDGE from Telluride airport to Denver was breathtaking all by itself! Gotta do it!

Pretty much agree with this ranking for a change(although I rate To-Hell-U-Ride above Beaver Creek and Snowmass mostly on town/aesthetic). Now if Telluride just got more, consistent snow it would be up there with AltaBird and Jackson

Snow issues when I was there but still one of the top skiing experiences of my life. So beautiful. I’m trying to recall how I afforded it in college. $$$. Awesome in the summer too. Great mountain biking.

Looks like a beautiful area to ski. Although it received less snow, the fact that it is less crowded means it doesn't get beat up by crowds.

I'm in the process of planning a trip there. We finally swallowed the thought of the expensive lodging only to find out this would be the highest we've ever paid for lift tickets. It's crazy expensive for being so remote. 210.00 lift tickets😮

How would you compare the difficulty rating of telluride to mammoth CA
@PeakRankings
@PeakRankings Жыл бұрын
They're both very hard for different reasons. Mammoth might have more technical lines that are easily accessible from the lifts, but Telluride has much longer, more demanding endurance runs.

I am an East Coast skier so if I am going to fly out west and spend a small fortune snow quality is my number one priority. The last twenty years my trips out west have not been so wonderful and often they have been somewhat of waste. That is why I more than likely will never ski here, just not enough consistent snow. My first twenty years going out west were insanely good and I thought that is how it was and I believed all the hype. Last year I skied Colorado and I got lucky, they had a bad winter but my two week stay it snowed a bit and I had a very enjoyable time. Timing is everything. Great review and the place looks beautiful. Especially the hike to terrain.

Somewhat similar experience to you through the years although I’ve been fortunate enough to get a good pow day or few in almost every trip. But those pow days were 8” to 12” at best. Compared to every trip I took in high school and college and experienced many bottomless pow days of 36”+. A few where 6 to 8 feet fell over the course of a week. If you want the best chance of great pow I’d highly recommend targeting on Alta/Snowbird. And if you’re more budget minded and drive to the resorts you can stay in Salt Lake City and get normal hotel rates. I haven’t skied Utah in 20 years because I have family members living in the Aspen and Vail areas and it’s just too convenient to stay with them. As an aside I skied Vail (Epic pass) for 2 weeks, last week of March first week of April 2023 and we received 30” of snow in January-like weather. Who would of thunk it? I was expecting spring skiing lol before arriving. So snow was awesome and there were no crowds surprisingly. But again the best pow day was only 8”. Heavy dry pow. Not close to classic champagne pow.

It is the most beautiful place. However, Telluride is a place that if the snow is not good it ruins the skiing. When conditions are good it has some of the best runs!
