The RVH (reverse vertical horizontal) is an essential tool to use on wide angle plays, wraps and jams to help secure the post. In this tutorial we will focus on how to properly enter and exit and post using the RVH technique.

I'll take a short Goalie, because he/she has to work harder, are more aggressive, aren't afraid of the puck, usually stops more pucks! BE BIG in net!!!

spoiler5oo Ahh yes, manlets stop more pucks. That’s why the NHL is littered with short goalies.

The RVH has a time and a place, but standing up is still perfectly fine most of the time. You should only actually employ the VH or RVH when you anticipate a potential shot coming, not just as a default when they're behind the net. It's also better to stay up on your feet for easier control of any passes coming from behind the net, as not only do you have better control of your stick standing up but you have a bird's eye view. And most importantly, you can regain depth quickly if a pass does make it to the slot area by staying on your feet or using the VH. If there is any doubt about how the play is developing behind the net, the RVH really is the best 'catch-all' technique which is why you see it used a lot; but it's becoming a crutch for a lot of goalies now and the shooters are catching on.
