The video was well made, clear and concise. Some municipalities allow draining to the streets and others don't. Regardless, it's also important to make sure neighbors on low-lying property aren't impacted by the extra water. Home improvement centers have been carrying catch basins for several years now. They allow for a clean installation, and easier access to cleaning the pipes. For extra long pipes, install a catch basin, say, every 50'.

Great video Doc! If I may add...3 inch drain pipe is not a good idea. It has a hard time dealing with the amount of rainwater that comes from the roof. 4 inch PVC drain pipe is your best bet with a filter adaptor between your downspout and the PVC that goes underground. At the discharge end you need a T with a 2 foot hole at the end. Put the T at the end of your PVC and fill the hole with gravel. No popup at the end...Only a grate is needed! This allows water to always drain! You now have the perfect setup!

OMG such a simple solution and while I have used these flexible downspots over the years and never thought about using them in my flowerbeds and pushing the water down my driveway! My flowerbeds always looked bad from the washout. Thanks to you the water now flows correctly down the driveway and the pipes are hidden in bushes on either side of my garage. Thnx.

looks like your going to eventually strip out the substrate of your concrete drive and will be replacing the driveway

I would just ensure the extended gutter ends directly on the driveway just to eliminate any water that may pool around foundation... otherwise good flow.

Smart thinking Doc. I have these accordion pipes already but need to get the water past the turf or disperse the water over a larger area. 🤔 I have seen the downspouts that “unroll” and spread the water over a much longer run off and might get them. Like a flat hose will do.

I have the underground drainage system and it is full of leaves, gravel and blocked up in areas it is difficult to get to underground etc. so we are now putting the system above ground. I'm looking for the best way to do that.

Where are you located? Won't that water freeze on your driveway in the winter?

My new built home has the drain pipes just going between the two homes. Just a foot away. Should this water be redirected further away from the house? Can more than one down spouted be connected, or would that curse things to over flow?

Hello Doc, You offer some really good suggestions. One question I have, the downspouts toward the front of your home are directed toward the driveway and into the street drains/gutters, does it send water into your local city drains and ultimately into the waste water system? For areas such as where I live, the city discourages house runoff from going into the street drains/gutters, what would you recommend for channeling water at the front of ones house?

I have this same problem but with an AC condensation drain line. Any suggestions?

Do they let you collect rain water where you live? It was illegal in colorado but they let you collect a little bit now but it isnt much at all still!!

Move to Cape Cod.... all they do out here (if you’re not in a million+ home) is toss rye grass and let it go. No grading leveling ... nothing. A lot of spray and pray.

Hey Doc... In this video you’re talking about downspout washout. My entire lot size is 6800 sq ft. Lot has a lot of slope on the front that encourages a lot of fast water run off. Any suggestions on how to combat this? Additionally we have a tree (shade) that is wreaking havoc on grass growth. I put lime on last year, mechanical aeration, dumped 3/4 yard topsoil on last year... and the result is still hard packed no grass other than dark clumpy junk grass that lol like leprechaun grass tribbles. HELP
