Dialect coach Erik Singer once again takes a look at idiolects, better known as the specific way one individual speaks. This time, Erik is focusing on actors's portrayals of US presidents. How close was Josh Brolin to capturing George W. Bush in W.? Is Jay Pharoah's version of Obama true to life? Is it even possible for an actor to accurately portray George Washington?
Check out more from Erik here: www.eriksinger.com/

I stopped watching in the first minute when he said not much of an attempt was made refine kennedy's vocal quality even though the actor did a superb job, the only differences in the the official voice was due to the "potato" microphone back in those days, it's not an actors job to also replicate the sound of a terribad microphone, It's like expecting an actor to vocally replicate how crap your voice sounds like through a landline.

That's an interesting thing to notice. In the first couple of videos, he was more critical of them and would often put down the actors' performances directly, whereas in this it seems he's directly trying to avoid being negative. That Roosevelt was pretty awful.

There is a Lincoln impersonator in my hometown who lives it. He is the biggest expert on Lincoln, second to none, and an avid collector of his writings and those of Lincoln's contemporaries. He looks almost nothing like him when he works his handyman day job, he is maybe 5'8" and rotund, but when he is in character, he is indisputably Abraham Lincoln. Sometimes he goes to restaurants in full costume after public appearances, and just enjoy a meal as Lincoln without breaking character. My husband, previously a cook at one of these restaurants, didn't know that this gentleman did public appearances and lectures for historical events (this is New England, so it's rather out of place) and for years just thought the man had a colorful split personality.

George Washington had extremely painful dentures that he wore all the time. Added with the fact that he didn’t want people to know he was missing teeth he would not open his mouth very widely as to not show his dentures and to avoid the pain. It’s also why he’s often shown frowning in paintings because he was constantly in pain.
