This scene had ZERO business being as good as it was in a movie like this. Just a grand slam by both performers

Watching the guilt and shame of her decisions well up inside her... honestly a great scene. props to Jlaw. Excellent selection of the song, including the naivety of the boy not understanding the meaning behind the lyrics and it's relevance.

As wonderful as his performance is, Jennifer’s face conveys a thousand feelings throughout this scene. I think that I’ve seen every one of her films (including her academy award performance) and I feel her performance during this song is her strongest one yet; she truly moves me with her expressions.

The kid Tore down all the walls she'd ever built in an instant and made her confront herself, for a moment she was just like a young girl again, dreaming of a fairytale love story with a fabulous prince, In that time he lodged a piece of himself into her exposed heart, and even when she was able to put her walls back up later on that little shard of him hadn't gone anywhere, and it only grew. She tried to stop it, tried to deny it, and yet there came a point when she couldn't even do that, she didn't want to. She had fallen for him totally. This was the major turning point in the movie for me no doubt, after this i was so much more interested in what would happen next. I hope they make a second one, and it involves his college schooling, a deepening of their relationship, some nice fluff and romance bits, maybe a scene were he gets bullied by some dumbass Jocks, they call him the typical virgin nerd shit. She casually pulls up in a supercar, steps out like a sexy model in a tight cocktail dress, full makeup and looking spicy, and says something like "Hey honey, i came to get you" while leaning against the hood of the car all sensual looking. She, or maybe him, then walk forward and yank him/her into a fiery kiss right then and there, in front of everyone. Would be even funnier if she tells the assholes off over his shoulder with her scary wild woman vibes. Could even have an obsessed female classmate who absolutely refuses to believe he's dating someone when he tells her, "Because he's a nerd", and then she sees that kiss, causing her to lose her mind even worse then before. Then our gals gotta defend her man from the crazy stalker girl, and later whoop her ass in a catfight to make her go away for good. Then there's a cute wedding at the end or something like that. Would legitimately be an emmy award winner if they did that shit.

I watched this movie (No Hard Feelings for the multitudes of clueless below) based on this scene. I have rewatched this scene several times and I must say, this version of this song is far superior to the original. All respect to the writers, the Hall and Oates studio version totally misses. This song was meant to be played by a single voice on a single instrument. Either piano or guitar. Leave out all the studio production. Great lyric. I would love to hear Diana Krall do a jazzy version of this. Or Joss Stone.
