Some fun facts: 1.Levi Stubbs, the voice of Audrey 2, makes a cameo in Skid Row. He's the guy that kicks the fence. 2. Two of the urchins are Tisha Cambell (Gina) and Tachina Arnold (Pam) from the show Martin. 3.Ellen Greene (Audrey) was an original cast member from the stage play.

I always thought it was funny how amazed Seymour was at the plant talking but didn't seem impressed at all at the fact the plant could move around and was sentient before that lol

See the original ending, please!!!!! it's based on the ending of the musical show (this movie it's based on the musical off-broadway "Little Shop of Horrors" maked by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken).

This is the movie that made me terrified of the dentist as a kid. It didn't help that my small town had a dentist that, I swear, considered Steve Martin's character as a role model. He always started drilling before the Novocain started working. I still hate going to the dentist to this day.

I was a fan of the movie, but years later I found out about the original ending scene through KZfaq. Then I bought the Blu Ray, which I'm glad I did. The ending you got was the "re-shot" ending. The original ending was closer to what you guys were saying that you're glad didn't happen. 😅 I have to say even though I grew up with the theatrical version, I definitely prefer the original one.

The "Original Ending was the one where the plant wins. This is how the stage play ends. Movie test audiences hated it. Frank Oz chalked it up to the difference between theater (where it's more fake and everyone gets a curtain call) and the movies where things are more realistic.

One of my favorite movies when i was 10...i was big into The Shining and Jack Nickelsons performance, so i watched all of the films he was in. And the led me to the OG film in b&w. And then this movie, which had an awesome soundtrack. I then got in a Rick Moranis movie kick....which led me to Strange Brew, The Wild Life and Brewsters Millions.

I suspect that when Seymour electrocuted Audrey 2 and it exploded it spread spores. That's why one popped up in their garden at the end. So there's no telling how many spores were floating around out there.

You brought up the fact that Seymour still stays in the shop after Mushnik dies. This is explained in the play in a song where Mushnik actually adopts Seymour: "How would you like to be... my son? How would you like to be my own adopted boy? I never liked him much before, but count the cash that's in the drawer! I'll call my lawyer!" Seymour: "Call me son!" They cut that plot point for the movie to streamline the story and keep things moving.

Awesome reaction to an awesome film/musical. There is actually an alternative 'original' ending to this film which is arguably better and is certainly a lot funnier and keeping with the tone of the overall movie.

you need to see the original ending before the studio forced them to change it. they spent 410m of their $40m budget on it. exceedingly high for a movie of the time

I am an absolute NERD for this film! Sorry-not-sorry for all of the following commentary on your commentary: 9:20 - "Somewhere That's Green" if the tune sounds familiar, the writing duo Howard Ashman and Alan Menken also wrote for Disney's "The Little Mermaid." Ariel's 'I wish' song "Part of Your World" is very reminiscent of "...Green." The weird little musical about the plant had not really been much of a hit, so he didn't feel too bad about borrowing from himself a bit. It was after Mermaid that Little Shop took off more, and some people have pointed out the similarities. 15:40 - The Dentist's nurse was played by British actress Miriam Margolyes (best known for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films), who has lead an amazingly eccentric life; look up her WILD stories told on The Graham Norton Show! 17:40 - Dentist's death: In the stage musical Orin has a whole song about how "it's the gas" before he dies. Sort of too bad they didn't include that song in the film version. 47:45 - Like you say about Nitrous- you need the oxygen. They address that in the song. 19:30 - Ellen Greene's voice is amazing. She originated the role of Audrey in the original production, was the natural choice for the film, and has made it her signature role for years since. She puts on that kinda' ditzy "Audrey" voice, but the true power of her singing cannot be hidden. 43:20 As you said: Beautiful voice!! 26:20 - I'm glad you saw the theatrical release ending. I prefer it. That was the revised 'happy' ending, after the original, darker ending met with poor reviews from preview audiences. So they came back and re-shot a happy ending. The original stage play has Audrey die and the plant eats her, and Seymour gets eaten, and there's a whole song about how the Plant took over the world. Like you said at 50:20 - "They all die at the end." That is exactly what happens in the stage version, and the original film ending. The original film ending showed this in a mega montage of many giant Plants wreaking havoc on cities, in a Godzilla-esque kaiju type attack. As truly impressive as that ending is- the effects, puppetry, scenic, everything is super cool-looking. But it goes on simply *forever*! WAY too long, in my opinion. And I prefer the ending with Seymour and Audrey escaping to their dream home- then the tiny baby Plant in the flower bed... 27:50 - Based on a stage musical, which is based on a super low-budget black and white film from 1960. If you ever get a chance to react-watch the original Roger Corman film, I would love to see it happen. How anyone in their right mind watched that weird little horror comedy film made over like two days with a budget of fifty cents and a bus token and thought to themselves "This would make for a snappy stage musical!" I do not know. But I'm so glad they did! 34:15 - The Plant. The original B&W film had a plant more or less along those lines: an egg-shaped pod that eats people. The stage musical came up with a series of puppets- really quite ingenious in their design and execution- that came to life as the homocidal, man-eating plant. The film took those basic designs, and created sophisticated puppets and animatronics at the peak cutting edge of the technology of the time, that hold up super well today! These days, they would probably resort to CGI, but these were real, on-set, practical effects! The singing scenes were shot in slow motion, to give the puppeteers time to move the mouth and lips to the lyrics- then it was played sped up, and looks great! I am a theatre person, a sometimes puppet builder and performer. I've had the opportunity to perform as The Plant two times, using two different rented Plant rigs. It was a heck of an experience both times. It's such a fun show to do! I was in grade school when this film came out, and absolutely loved it! A classmate of mine- a very talented artist even at that young age- was OBSESSED with the movie! He would draw it all over the place. He had many of us convinced in the school-yard that the weeds growing up through the cracks in the asphalt were mini Audrey 2s trying to take over! We would go around stomping on them as a recess game. This film was probably my first introduction to Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. I've gained SO much appreciation for both in the years since. They are *legends* of comedy! "My Blue Heaven" (1990) puts Rick and Steve together in another (non-musical) comedy that is tangentially related to the serious drama "Goodfellas." If you watch it, we can share more trivia...
