Earth's billions of inhabitants are unaware that the planet has an expiration date. With the warnings of an American scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor), world leaders begin secret preparations for the survival of select members of society. 1:30 - 1:47 Harry knew he or anyone can do nothing now. He had no choice than to accept his incoming death. The soundtrack, acting, visuals. Everything in this scene legit gives me goosebumps. The reason that I always enjoyed this movie over other disaster movies was that they made you feel for the characters. No matter how small of a roll they played their deaths held impact.

Well you don't have to worry about this. Unless it was a 25 magnitude Earthquake or a giant asteroid hitting the ocean, a cruise ship would handle any tsunami in open water with ease. You would barely feel it.

@@RobTheProspect That's my opinion as well. The ships have instruments, sure there will be some wave, but they can move the ship perpendicular to the wave to try to ride it out. But yeah, they tend not to be that tall in the middle of the ocean.

This movie says a lot about the world leaders who despite offered a chance, to save themselves and their families - they instead chose to stay behind with their people knowing what was coming. The fact it took a heart felt speech, for the world leaders who chose to leave their people behind - it says a lot about them. “Yeah, I boarded the Ark. But I didn’t save anyone, until Dr Adrian said it was cruelty to not open the gates.”

@@jasiumater the movie at times can be really really well-done realistically and the plot was very interesting but there are some moments where you don’t understand what’s the writers did it like that but overral I believe it was a very good watch and had made all the characters very human and realistic with even side characters having their own little storyline (didn’t realise I wrote a paragraph..)

Interesting coincidence this movie was filmed in 2009. In January of 2012 (the year the movie obviously takes place in) a story made global headlines about a cruise ship turned on its side (the cosca concordia disaster) 33 people passed away. Its very rare for a cruise ship to have those problems in the modern day (unlike the early 20th century). Life imitates art @1:43, this is a strikingly similar image to the Cosca Concordia event.

I love how the tsunami came knocking on the front door of the white house, meaning it had to travel at least 150 miles from the South from Norfolk (though if we're looking straight on, more like 300 miles from Jacksonville.) Instead of the 95 miles from the east and Delaware.

Cripto136 They'd need food. Most Utah class can stay underwater for 100 days if not more. And they'd probably do alright. The only issue is that the current and the force from the waves would probably destroy them, even underwater. Having that much water displaced would level pretty much anything.

The ship capsizing reminds me how the other ship capsized in the 2006 movie “Poseidon”. Anyone else agree? The only thing different is that the wave hit the left side of the ship unlike in “Poseidon” where the wave hit the right side

I love this movie for one reason only and that's the CGI. The people that made the CGI did an incredable work here. In the scene were the aircraft carrier is fallig on the white house, you can even see through the windows people running for their lives. I have seen this movie so many times and every time I find even more small details like that.

yeah i can actually believe that because i had a dream where a nuke was dropped on my city (I couldn't tell it was a dream in that moment because it was very realistic) and i remember i just accepted my fate calmly. Originally Tony and his buddy would have been found alive on an island by the arks at the end of the movie. Thankfully they didn't go with that because having Tony survive after having to listen the death of his son's family would seem to take away from the tragety of that loss.

The scene is strong to me, as he just chose to accept his fate then and there, Even if he had survived and there was no tsunami, The land he's on would be freezing cold skin to the ice age and food would be hard to come by considering everything is gone. Best choice to make, I'd do the same.
