The Rock simply had to guest star on Voyager and give Jeri Ryan the Rock Bottom, and that's exactly what happened.

That's how I'd describe Scrubs after going back and rewatching it... Dr. Cox aged like fine wine, the rest of the show aged like milk IMO. The writers needed to do a Something About Mary before going into work. >__> I still enjoy it, just no where near as much as I used to. So maybe not quite aged like milk. Jeri Ryan really deserved some sort of special Emmy for what she managed to pull off on Voyager. I still don't think she's gotten the credit she deserves for salvaging what on paper was an absolute insult of a character. How they lucked out both with her casting and just in general with Seven, I still can't figure out. The same show that couldn't give most of the cast a compelling characterization in seven years managed to do it with her and, IMHO, pretty much only her and maybe the Doctor.

I agree about 7 of 9. At first I assumed that I only like the episodes that featured her because she was hot but eventually I realized her story of coming back to the human world after being a Borg since childhood was really compelling and in addition to being hot she’s also a good actress that is fun to watch. My favorite Voyager episode is the one that starts with Naomi Wildman following her around. Those two had great chemistry and it was funny without being too cutesy and then it got serious and really gave her a chance to act as she started taking on the personalities of various other members of the Borg. Another great part of that episode was when 7 takes on the Persona of a male Klingon and tries to initiate a mating ritual with B'Elanna Torres who was my second favorite character. At the time I had a lot of anger issues and I could really relate to Torres always struggling to keep her anger in control.

It was a convoluted mess back in the day behind the scenes, but the original reason for 7/9's inclusion *was* to be just eye candy. Due to the showrunner's mandate that all humans must be boring/flat so the aliens can shine... The writers cheated their way into being allowed 7/9 to have great depth of character because "she isn't human". Everyone was running on spite behind the scenes of Voyager.

Voyager was the first Star Trek media I actually got into. When I was a kid my local movie theatre had a Voyager arcade game which I was never allowed to play because my mother was against things with shooting, but I was infatuated by the art on the sides of the machine. One summer by coincidence I caught part of a scene on TV that featured someone picking up a helmet to find it still contained the head of a decapitated Hirogen. That really stuck with me, so I did some research and found out that Voyager had both Hirogens and the character from the side of the arcade game I thought looked so cool (which was Seven of Nine). At that time I believe the show was on Netflix, and once school started again it became common for me to stay up watching it on my iPad late into the night despite having to go to school in the morning. At a certain point I realized a lot of the characters and plots were simply agitating, so I started using IMDB plot descriptions to skip around primarily to Seven of Nine centric episodes. As is remarked in this video, she was absolutely the strongest character and I felt very compelled by the internal struggles she dealt with. It's kinda sad for me looking back at this show I have such fond memories of and realizing how flawed and frankly dumb it was, but there are some great moments and it does have a special place in my heart, even if it's no longer my fav. P.S: I did eventually go back to that theatre when I was older and play the Voyager arcade game, it was like a rail shooter where you're defending Voyager from a Borg invasion using a phaser rifle.

I may be misremembering, but I don't think *any* of the Hirogen were given names in episodes they appeared in. "Hirogen Hunter" may have just not had a name. However, he eventually got a name (as did all the other Hirogen) when his CCG card was released, as Decipher (maker of the card game) had all names and lore approved by Paramount. This hunter's name is Hajur. The Rock's character never got a name. Even in the CCG he's called "The Pendari Champion" (and his card is an ultra-rare!)

Oh, this outro music is pretty good! It’s just one breakdown (and heavy distortion) away from being acid bass. Also, the main good thing I can say about this episode is I liked how Tuvok said “is the idea of dying more appealing than the idea of killing?”, all pragmatic-like. Even then, I still really like this one on rewatches. I like the crew interactions, I like Chakotay and B’Elanna talking about martial arts, I like Hertzler’s performance. It’s a basic plot structure but I like the ways they dressed it up.

Cheers Allison. Great fun. The addition of The Rock in STV was probably the most monumental moment in History. The only way it could have been improved would have been to include Pet Rock on a Rocking chair. The producers must be kicking themselves when they read this. A missed opportunity in my book.

One promo photo shoot of Jeri Ryan as Seven Of Nine, her pose was mimicked with one of the semi memorable video game characters. And in a scene where she reprises her role as Seven in Star Trek Picard she almost looks like another memorable video game character

While I liked the pilot, I just could never get into Voyager, the actual show but it is kind of neat to see the Rock go from wrestling, to a wrestling tie-in to acting. Which isn't something I'd have expected from these clips.

I can to this day vividly recall seeing the UPN promos for this episode of voyager as a kid. I also vividly remember the episode where Harry gets beaten up by a bunch of vampire women with sticks. Weird the things one can recall so completely from their childhood...

I really need to give Voyager another shot, I initially wrote it off after the 3rd episode, just did nothing for me. I recall this promo and even The Rock couldn't get me to waste time my time watching. Hell not even Jerri Ryan could get me to watch. But Allison's videos somehow make me feel I'm totally missing out on shlock TV gold.

You were right to write it off. Voyager ain't good, and most often not in a "so bad it's good" type of way, but in a "how is Star Trek so boring?" type of way.
