I remember years ago I had direct tv and lost a crap ton of channels because they were threatening to leave direct tv if they didnt get paid more (they apparently do this often and that is why you dont see channels like nickelodeon, mtv, etc. on some streaming tv services or netflix). I think the best way to understand is that the shows he criticized in that video and the other shows he lumped in with them from the short clip he showed us in this video (one them I think being Clannad, a very emotional anime that was critically acclaimed, though the gray-scale makes it hard to really tell) have an actual deep connection to other people, either for presenting a great story that they can feel not-so-alone in this world as it's relatable or really putting out concepts that are original in their own regard. When you (blindly, as that was the argument in the comments) criticize something someone else feels extremely connected to, like how others are connected to novels or movies or video games or even table top role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, that person is going to feel like you've criticized them. Maybe it's a self-conscious issue, or maybe it's something to do with that person's life experience, but that's usually the reason why people act like that. I don't condone that behavior, but I can understand on some level why it happens.

RasenRendan well, just let me tell you a story. I had two friends and they were huge fans of k-pop, j-pop, anime and just these stuff. So they begged me to watch just one episode, I’ve tried to explain them that I don’t like it at all, but they didn’t listen, so I watched a few different anime episodes like Death note, Tokyo Ghoul etc. and I just hated it. So next day, I went to school and decently explained it to them, without offending anime in any way. They were quiet for few seconds and then just got crazy, they started swearing at me and saying how dare I to hate anime etc. I’m really glad that I’m not friends with them anymore.
