People crapped on Avatar for 13 years yet they all flocked in record box-office numbers to both films. 😂😂

I mean…..just because it did well at the box office, it doesn’t equate to being a good movie. People attended because they were curious and most left the theatre disappointed! Same could be said for Barbie last year.

@taydestiny38 You've misinterpreted what I said. Has nothing to do with being a good movie or not & more to do with people being full of crap. They just say what they think is the popular & cool thing to say but clearly didn't dislike the movie as much as many of them lead on. Just for the record, I like the Avatar movies. I enjoy the scope & world-building of the franchise. Give me 10 Avatars other than garbage Marvel movies Disney are churning out.

@@taydestiny38 why be curious to check out the sequel to a movie you claim to hate?? There's a *massive* difference between merely doing well at the box office versus making *$2.32 BILLION*

😂😂😂 Hi friend. I guess maybe they wanted to see if there was going to be something they liked more in the sequel?? I'm not sure where they expected but still, hard to say why we feel the way we do about certain movies. Sometimes they just hit wrong. This was really just meant to show that even if movies are getting all kinds of praise, awards, whatever they still get plenty of hate. It's just the way things are I suppose. Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 🙂👋👋

Hi Stephanie! A few of the movies you brought up I like too. I often tell people I talk to "Whenever I watch a show or movie, I suspend reality & enjoy the stories they're telling.". When you follow this rule, you can really get into a lot more movies (including the offbeat ones}. Take care! --- Bill (From Mt. Holly, NJ)

"I often tell people I talk to "Whenever I watch a show or movie, I suspend reality & enjoy the stories they're telling."" That's good advice-- it may help me get into a lot of these shows that I've hardly scratched the surface of, like The West Wing (that 1999-2006 NBC political serial from Aaron Sorkin that had Martin Sheen et al.).

I'm a die-hard Kubrick fan, so I appreciate the "Clockwork Orange" love! I'm also a HUGE "English Patient" fan! I think the Academy got it right that year PLUS I read the book and Minghella deserved an Oscar for the screenplay too! Impossible to adapt, yet Minghella did so brilliantly! I film that I love that most don't seem crazy about (at least the on-line keyboard warriors LOL!) was "Killers Of The Flower Moon"! Saw it four times in the theatre and I bought the 4K/Blu-Ray combo and saw it again! Best film of the decade so far in my opinion! Scorsese's films age well, so I think we'll have to see how people receive "Killers Of The Flower Moon 30-40 years down the road!

Clockwork Orange, a little bit of the ultra violence, a Kubrick classic. “Requiem for a Dream” was an excellent film but yes, it’s a rough film to watch and one that I would classify alongside films like “Irreversible” and “Schindler's List”. These films are done masterfully but the emotional toll it takes to watch these is heavy. I love Dario Argento’s films including Suspiria but I haven’t seen the remake yet.

Haven't seen the otfuers, but I do have some thoughts on three in particular. A Clockwork Orange is a classic. Honestly, Kubrick's filmography from Dr. Strangelove onward is all top tier cinema imo (and that's not to say I don't love any of his movies from before that). It's incredibly disturbing at points, but it's the perfect example of why sometimes it's necessary to "go there." You needed to be revolted by Alex just as much as you find him charismatic in order to most effectively communicate the story's exploration of heavy themes about free will, evil, and moral agency. It's probably the most controversial movie I like, and while I'm generally pretty unapologetic about the things I like and believe, this might be the one movie that I don't generally admit to liking in certain company. It's an absolute masterpiece, though. It's just not an easy watch that everybody should be recommended. Midsommar feels like the spiritual successor to the equally unsettling The Wicker Man (the good one with Christopher Lee). I don't love Ari Aster in general (Hereditary kinda effed me up, lol), but I like it. Florence Pugh is a borderline goddess who's great in everything she's in regardless of the quality of the movie itself. I think it still would have been good without her, but Midsommar definitely gets Pugh points in my book, lol. I really want to like the Avatar movies and tried to convince myself for a long time that I liked the first one more than I did. The first Avatar movie was perfectly fine. I just don't think the actual plot was the main priority. I can appreciate the template they were going with since I like other movies that do the same (The Last Samurai), but I just don't think there's much meat on that bone. It's good, but I don't love it. I couldn't get on board for the second. No shade at all to anyone who likes it, but I thought the plot felt like a dumber version of the first one, and the only reason it got away with it is bscause people had upwards to a decade and a half to forget the finer points of the first movie. The CGI and the world building in both movies are impeccable, though. Jake Sulley is literally a race traitor for screwing over the humanity, and I don't like the lack of nuance ehown to the human side. The biggest thing that I have to admit sours me on these movies is that it just sounds like two-dimensional eco-cringe, and it really confuses me how the biggest blockbusters to positively portray loving and sypportive families can have such a misanthropic attitude toward people as a whole. Idk if that's a movie problem or a me problem, but I just can't get over that cognitive dissonance I feel about it. The action, effects, and worldbuilding are great, and I don't begrudge anyone for liking them, but when I want something that tackles these ideas, I much prefer and believe that everybody would be far better served checking out one of Hayao Myazaki's best movies, Princess Mononoke.

I quite liked Downsizing. It definitely had some pacing issues and wasn't marketed correctly but it had some good stuff in there. I read somewhere that it was originally supposed to be a 3 part mini series which made sense why it felt like 3 very separate parts to me at least anyway.

Hey, Steph: GREAT video. I'll watch Part II soon. Here's my response: Requiem: Never saw it, but I would watch it. Licorice Pizza: I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it at all. I remember being bored as well. Lady Bird: I don't remember the story, but I remember liking the movie A Clockwork Orange; Embarrassed to say I never saw this The English Patient: I watched it wanting to love it, but was bored to tears Swiss Army Man: Never saw it, but would watch Avatar: Never saw because it doesn't interest me Suspiria: I wanted to watch this. I remember years ago when you talked about it in another video. Everything: Had access to this as it was a SAG screener. Hated it so much I had to turn it off. Halloween: Don't think I saw this one Leatherface: Never saw it, probably wouldn't like it Midsommar: I saw this in the theater. Yes, it was good, and all done in daylight: amazing. (In the middle of it, there was an earthquake. The lights went on and the theatre shook for 20 seconds.) Some left, I stayed until the end. Saint Maud: Haven't seen, would love to watch Downsizing: I think you're spot on about a marketing problem. I expected something very different and hated it. Brightburn: Nothing that would interest me. So, there you go! :)

Requiem for a Dream is a tough watch. I believe that is because it was very well done. Just like Leaving Las Vegas and Midnight Cowboy, I think the reason I won't likely watch them again is because they brought me down, not because I don't think they're good. Hi friend. I'm with you in that we should all watch what we enjoy and no one should be attacked for saying they like this or that. I've seen some vicious comments towards others and I'm left thinking, "over a movie??" I'll never understand it. I love The Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis. A Clockwork Orange is the movie that made me a Kubrick fan and the loud-mouthed prison official hilariously steals it, but I don't see much weirdness in it. I find it mainly straightforward except for the very last scene.

Some assume that people who dislike the Suspiria remake are closed-minded or not able to understand it. I have no problems with it being different from the original, in fact that is my preference. I love these types of videos. I haven't seen a lot of these movies, but some are on my list to see. I will say that I love both Requiem For A Dream and A Clockwork Orange. I liked Licorice Pizza and Midsommar, too. The ones I agree with the general public on are The English Patient (what a horrible movie... dull, lifeless, I hated the romantic relationship and those two characters with all of my being), Avatar (was pretty generic to me and didn't warrant its gigantic budget. It's an ok watch, but I was not surprised at all) and the Rob Zombie's Halloween movies (I guess they are watchable, but to me, the creation of the back story humanizes Michael Meyers and I think this goes against the idea that he was evil incarnate (as Dr. Loomis supported in the originals). In this one he's just another boy who was bullied and is angry at the world.) Now, movies I loved that most people hated: Hudson Hawk (Fun and whimsical and better than most of Bruce's 2nd tier action flicks), The Hudsucker Proxy is also a funny film that is often forgotten about in Coen Brother's filmography, and Jason X gets bashed a lot, but I think it's a hoot and wish they had made a sequel with Uber Jason.

Some films just need to be seen in the right environment. Take Brightburn as an example. Center seat in my room your eyes are 6' away from a 65" OLED and I have 7.3.4 sound with me achieving 105db at 5Hz. My uncle watched it for the first time at my place and came away not able to stop talking about the movie and how it was the creepiest movie he had seen in a very long time. Excited for a rewatch with his wife on their sofa 10" away from a 55" and a soundbar, she fell asleep and he found it boring. King Arthur Legend of the Sword got terrible reviews but I find the movie to be a lot of fun. Soundmix really elevates that. I don't know how The Hitman's Bodyguard gets so much hate starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson. It's a great ride. Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde are a couple great movies that don't seem to get the love. Passengers is one I like a lot despite the hate. There is a comedy I find hilarious that others don't or ever heard of, Sex and Death 101. Terminator Genisys is probably the most hated in the franchise yet it is one of my favorites.

I like the English Patient but I know it gets a lot of hate. I think some people think it is overly sentimental and too soap opera. I remember how Elaine hates it on Seinfeld and pretending that she hasn't seen it, her boss, J Peterman, takes her to see it and when she finally tells him she's seen it before and hates it, he fires her. haha!!! lol!!! I guess Avatar is okay but I'm not wild about it. It seems to have those overkill with suspended waterfalls in the sky. How many waterfalls do we need to see on the screen? It's basically the John Smith and Pocahontas story on another planet. I like the John Smith and Pocahontas story done by Terence Malick, a great director called The New World, maybe my favorite Terence Malick film but maybe I'd include Tree of Life as well with that. What's the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film with R. Lee Ermy? I like how that one is set up and how you see the evolution of the family. My only gripe with that particular film is I wanted to know in more detail about Leatherface's childhood but, other than that, I really enjoyed that film which I think gets a lot of hate.

Cool idea for a video! I am 100% with you regarding Requiem For A Dream. Absolutely one of the most brilliant, most devastating movies ever made. Not easy to watch, for sure. Ellen Burstyn gives her most courageous, most powerful performances in this movie. She was robbed of the Oscar that year. All of the cast is first-rate. A Clockwork Orange is a film I only saw once, and it's been several years. I understand that it was intended primarily to be a statement against violence. In my opinion, however, it didn't succeed. I see it as an exploitation of ugly violence being passed off as serious art, as so many films are. I will concede that if I ever decide to watch it again, I may form a different opinion. I didn't hate Midsommar. In fact, I found it to be quite effective. It just filled me with so much visceral discomfort that I knew I would never want to go through it again. This is the first I've heard of Saint Maud, but it sounds like something I would want to see.

What an awesome topic and video. I am so on board with you with those horror picks. You might be the first person I've heard that liked the newer Leatherface and so do I . I own all the TCM films and have something good to say about all of them, but I would also say that the Leatherface TCM 3 is my least favorite. Love both Rob Zombie Halloweens and never understood the hate. People hate A Clockwork Orange? I have not run into anyone with that opinion yet, I think it's one of the best Kubrick movies. I still need to watch the Suspiria remake, although I've owned the blu-ray since it came out. Just one of those I keep putting off, but will watch soon. I really want to check out Brightburn, too, and will pick up a copy sometime. The movie I probably like the least from those you mention is The English Patient. I think I might need to see it again. I was big into the Oscars at that time and I was rooting for either Fargo or Secrets & Lies to win, which are still favorite movies of mine. Licorice Pizza I am also not crazy about, but it has nothing to do with the relationship age gap thing. That kind of thing doesn't bother me in movies and it's an odd complaint. Oh, Midsommar is awesome, too. I still need to see the director's cut someday.

Hi friend and thanks so much for the great comment. I'm one who gives horror a thumbs up as long as it keeps me entertained. It's one of my favorite genres and there's so many different subgenres to enjoy. TCM 3 is definitely on the bottom of my list for that franchise. But I feel like the franchise overall tends to jump all over the place so I just try to go with it. Rob Zombie's films get so much hate. With the exception of House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, so much hate and I just don't get it. Clockwork Orange is one I've had a ton of people tell me they didn't like. I offered it in a giveaway on another channel once and no one even wanted the free copy. 😂😂😂 I don't get the hate because I just love it. I did a video about Oscar Winners that I thought were wrong and I did pick Fargo over The English Patient but I really do love that movie. Did not like Licorice Pizza; acting was good, but story line/script was aimless, boring. Love Lady Bird! Clockwork Orange absolutely great, genius performance by McDowell, great supporting actors. Saint Maud have not seen, but anxious to watch.

Hi friend. I get it. That's the usual complaint with Licorice Pizza and there's something to it for sure. Happy to hear you like some of the others. I agree with you that Clockwork Orange is fantastic and definitely an underrated gem. Thanks so much for watching I really do appreciate it. 🙂👋👋

I really enjoyed the video. I am a fan of Brightburn too. Two movies I think that I am the only one that likes them: Morbius & The New Mutants. I hope that statement doesn’t blow up your channel! I love A24 horror films will have to check out Saint Maude. Have a GREAT one! 😎

😂😂😂 Hi friend and no worries here about blowing up the channel comments. For the record, I really enjoyed Morbius as well and I didn't get the hate for it. I thought it did exactly what it was supposed to do. Saint Maud is a love it or hate it for most people. It's definitely a strange watch but that made it really interesting and different for me so that worked. And the ending..... Wow. Wild. Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 🙂👋👋

That's not something I typically do but I really enjoyed both. Thanks so much for watching and I hope all is well with you. 🙂👋👋

Hi friend. I'm with you but people get wild over rankings, remakes, and anything different I guess. I try to take them all in for what they are but I guess everyone has their own take. I totally agree with you that Halloween Ends is in last place for me, too. Halloween Kills would have been fine had it not been for the wild mob thing. But still, pretty fun movie. Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it. 🙂👋👋

It's good to hear that someone else struggled with the first half an hour or so of Everywhere...all at once. I couldn't get past the subservient, bickering, laundrette-running caricatures of Asian people, the film portrayed. I felt awkward and bored just watching and listening to them, and despite liking the premise of multiverse-travel, I simply didn't like any of the characters in the slightest and found them really irritating and whinny.

Hey Stephanie/Movie Chatter! I don't mind Requiem For A Dream, but I like a lot of Aronofsky's work, my favorite being Black Swan. I also like Noah a lot even though I'm an atheist. I think stands up fine regardless of where you stand with religion. It's like sports movies. If the movie is good enough, you don't really have to care about the sport. It's how it's artistically handled and how the movie is crafted such as Raging Bull. I'm not a boxing fan but the film is a drama and is not really about boxing. Well, maybe you can guess what I would say about a Clockwork Orange being that my channel is called Kubricklover. Kubrick is my favorite director and I find Clockwork Orange to be one of my favorite films of his and one of my favorites of all the films I like. I think there are a fair number of people that love Clockwork Orange. I do find it kind of shocking. The Ludovico Technique scenes where they got his eyelids peeled back are kind of hard to watch but it's still a fantastic film. I don't know. I think there might be films that might be a harder watch such as Salo and Funny Games and maybe Come And See, all of which I think are great films. I've watched Clockwork Orange many times but I've only watched Salo once, and although I regard Salo as a masterpiece, I don't know when I will watch it again.

Hello, my friend. You make some awesome points here and I fully agree. I watch so many sports movies but I'm not really much of a sports person. It's absolutely about the way the movie is done; the acting, story, atmosphere, technical abilities, etc. Those are the things that draw me in. Thanks so much for watching and your very insightful comment. You really nailed it so, thank you 😊

They're just fun movies that make me laugh. I was shocked when I looked on IMDb and they got scores in the low 4 range. I mean, I know they're not award worthy movies but I don't think they're that bad. Who knows?? Thanks so much for watching and sharing your picks. 🙂👋👋

Clockwork Orange is amazing - I think maybe I slightly identify more with it being British (not saying our actual culture is anything like that, but you know what I mean) it is a bit weird, but it is a great story that gets you thinking - undoubtedly Malcolm McDowell's best role (he got a bit "will work for food" later in his career, when age and coke took over 😂 and I wouldn't say he was the worlds best actor anyway) and there are many recognisable faces from British TV and Cinema (including a young Warren Clark who plays Dim, he got quite famous later). Anthony Burgess who wrote the novel actually hated the movie as he believed Kubrick totally misunderstood the last chapter and ultimately the point of the novel - and yes I have to agree it is a bit rushed and the closure of the novel is better. But it is what it is. Incidentally, the scene where the droogs attack the writer and his wife is based on real events which happened to Burgess and his wife, I believe at the hands of American GI's during WW2 if memory serves. You will also see David Prowse who played the body of Darth Vader in the original trilogy, in the small role of Julian (the writer's body guard when Alex stumbles back the house a few years after the attack).

Hi, friend and wow, what a great and informative comment. Thank you for taking the time to share all that great information. Funny about the feelings on the adaptation of book to movie. Stephen King absolutely HATES what Kubrick did with The Shining. I personally enjoy it but he is very vocal about his dislike of it. Just an interesting observation about how writers and directors can see things so differently. Thanks so much for watching and the great comment. I really do appreciate it 😊

Requiem used to be my favorite film and people would always say, "I don't like it, but I get it." Licorice Pizza is great! I never realized people disliked it so much. Same for Lady Bird, I never realized. I actually prefer the new Suspiria. I love the original too, but the new one was more my style. I actually used to like zombies Halloween and didn't really like 2 but as time has gone on most of Zombie's work has lost it's shine with me. I pretty much only like Lords of Salem these days He just get a bit repetitive and self indulgent for me.Midsommar...I saw that in the theater 4 times alone and own several versions! Love it. Saint Maud was amazing. The ending...whew. But yeah you may the only other person I know that likes it as well. Still have Brightburn on my lisr.

Hi friend. Yep, we'll sit and enjoy Saint Maud. 😂😂 I get why Requiem is a tough love for people and I've heard the same: they appreciate it for what it is but they can't handle a second watch. Ugh. The backlash I saw when people were talking about liking Licorice Pizza was nuts on some social sites. I was kind of shocked at all the criticism. I get it wasn't the best plot but it was still fun. I loved Lady Bird but by the time Awards came around, people were trashing it left and right. I thought it was such a great coming of age movie. So well written and full of heart. I thought the casting was fantastic but to this day, people say they can't stand it. Some still love it but I see a lot of hate for it and I'm lost by that. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. It's very much appreciated. 🙂👋👋

I agree with: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once...my brother doesn't like that one at all and I myself don't really understand it. I partly agree with: Halloween 2007, the first hour or so had some interesting back story stuff in there, Halloween 2...nah...that's not good at all in my opinion! I don't agree with: Midsommar...it's a Wicker Man wannabe movie...nah...I stick to the original...I do like the actress Florence Pugh the more-and-more I see her (The Wonder, A Good Person, etc.). I know for a fact that there are people who didn't like: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. When I watched this at the movies, there were people walking away! But, I myself, I enjoy this movie sequel a lot. Other movies I like, but a lot of people don't: Flash Gordon (1980); The Matrix: Resurrections; Terminator: Salvation; The Thing (2011), etc. Movies I don't like, but a lot of people do: Mad Max: Fury Road (aka: Mad Max 4)...a 2-hour continuous action chase movie...nah...not for me...I was bored!; the Pacific Rim movies...too much suspension of disbelief, how awesome the special effects may be; the Despicable Me movies (ADHD-animated movies in my opinion); etc.

Hi friend and thanks so much for the great comment. I totally understand your points on the movies you don't agree with on the list. But that to me is the fun of lists like this. We can all agree we love to watch movies but each one will have a different effect on each person. I like that mostly everyone here has been kind to each other and in their comments about why they like or don't like certain films. It's great to agree to disagree and I feel like that's missing on a lot of social sites. Your comment is a fine example of how two movie fans can see things different but still agree on their enjoyment of movies in general. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your likes/dislikes in such a fine way. It's very much appreciated. 🙂👋👋
