My favorite part is that they gave their pilot Winston his wish. One last mission for him to go out in a blaze of glory and be buried in the sands just like his comrades. Most tend to miss that Wilson went out with a smile on his face dying the death he wanted.

My favorite line of the movie "Compared to you, the other plagues were a joy" I laugh every time. P.S. Also, it would depend on the road if a camel can beat a horse. If it's a paved road, a horse would win. Open desert like that, a camel would.

Brendan Fraser is a national treasure and must be protected. One of the most wholesome men on the planet, who went through some very awful stuff that caused him to stop his acting career for many years. Very glad he's back, we love him. Also, a 'broad' is a term from the 1950's in America that is slang for a promiscuous woman, someone who's got a 'broad' clientele, if you catch my meaning. Camels are quite fast and were used in the Middle East for cavalry (called "camelry") due to their ability to withstand the climate better than horses, and because horses don't like camels so enemy cavalry would have a harder time controlling their mounts. And your pronunciation of Cleopatra is adorable lol
@3Rayfire
@3Rayfire 8 ай бұрын
Broad actually dates from the 1910s and became popular in the 20s. Which is appropriate since this film is set in 1926.
@michaeldmcgee4499
@michaeldmcgee4499 8 ай бұрын
Wrong. Broad is a slang term that refers to women in general. It's based on the fact that women's hips are much wider (broad) than those of men. It has nothing to do with promiscuity.

The amount of reactors that classify this as a scary movie confuses me. It's an action/adventure. Yes, there are "horrific" things in it, but it's not meant to frighten. Like, you wouldn't classify Men In Black as a scary movie cause the Edgar Bug sticks dead bodies to the ceiling, or snaps people in half. It's the same thing.

If you are looking for an Amazing Mythology based movie in Egypt... 'The Prince of Egypt' it's an animated one; BUT it's not just a kids movie it feels more directed like a Shakespearian drama of the myth of Moses. take it from me- I'm not a member of any religious group involved in the story- It is a masterpiece of animated artwork and it's absolutely worth seeing.

What you likely fail to appreciate is the effects of this film, which were groundbreaking at the time, but have since been imitated so often they're common tropes of CG infested films today. It wasn't even nominated for visual effects at the Oscars (and The Phantom Menace was 🤮). I must admit being more fond of The Mummy Returns than I am of The Mummy. Hope you add it to a poll someday (a poll of sequels, to be fair).
@TahiriVeila13ABY
@TahiriVeila13ABY 8 ай бұрын
Phantom Menace was well deserving of an Oscar nomination. The visual effect work on that movie is astounding, the fact that it had two fully realized cgi characters alone make it deserving. Of all the criticism of Episode 1 back then, especially of Jar Jar, nobody ever mentioned the CGI, because it was incredibly good. The work on Episode 1 was far better than The Mummy, and a far more impressive feat than The Matrix (which has a truly awful compositing shot in it of Trinity jumping through a window at the start). If Episode 1 was well received, it would have won the Oscar for visual effects easy. The Mummy returns is a massive step down from The Mummy, with some of the worst CGI of all time. It has quite possibly the worst CGI shot in film history (of a big budget movie anyway), even the filmmakers regret that shot.

So to answer your question, I coincidentally watched The Whale earlier this week. It has fantastic acting, not just by Brenden Frazier, although he was the best. Hated the movie, though. So depressing with a bummer ending that was clearly telegraphed from the very beginning. It's one of those movies that sets out to make a point about an issue and then builds the movie around it rather than setting out to tell a great story and maybe include a message. I'm sure it is critically acclaimed for the issues raised and the good acting, but it's just not enjoyable.

9:34 - "What is 'broad'?" - It's an old, somewhat derogatory slang word for a woman. 9:36 - "That seems awful." - Originally, that's how most hangings were carried out. Hanging had been in use as an execution method for a long time before anyone figured out that if you dropped the person a sizable distance with a rope around their neck, it would snap their neck and kill them. It was many years after that, that they figured out how to precisely calculate the distance of the drop to break the person's neck without either strangling them, or decapitating them. 10:00 - "So many words I've never heard before." - "Flimflam" = scam. 18:07 - "Oh yeah, that was one of the plagues, right? The crickets?" - Locusts. The sequel, The Mummy Returns is also worth watching. It's pretty much more of the same. After that, the sequels get worse.

the derogatory term "broad" was used to refer to women in the 1970's, particularly in the United States. The term was often used in a demeaning way. "Flimflam" reached its peak usage in the 1920s and 1930s, when con artists and grifters were more prevalent in society. It refers to something that is false or deceptive, and is often used to describe a swindle or a con. Derived from the old English phrase "flim-flam flummox," which meant to confuse or perplex someone.

It has a lightness to it, the cast chemistry is out of this world, the dialogue is snappy and funny, and despite being a movie about a Mummy there are no genuinely mean spirited characters. The Mummy Returns is MUST watch as it carries everything forward perfectly. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is skippable. The Spin off...well that one starts an interesting star journey.

The Whale is a decent movie, it's about a very large guy, what would medically be referred to as "morbidly obese". It could be considered as kind of award bait as it's what is commonly referred to as a "character piece", something actors like to get their teeth into, although but you might enjoy it, the acting is excellent, Fraser did a great job. I love how most of the subtitles coming up were actually the same as the hardcoded ones.

You might enjoy a film ... was it from the late '50s or '60s, called "The Egyptian", starring Tony Curtis. That one actually took place in the ancient days.

Good thing your captioning translated "Hamunaptra 1923" into "Hamunaptra 1923". I don't think i would have gotten that. 😂

there was some trivia about this movie and all the camels didn't like Beni's actor Kevin J. O'Connor for some reason they spit at him and tried to bite him throughout the whole movie per cast and crew members

13:13 of course the Camels would win this on sand. Their feet are made for this and they are pretty fast. Horse feet are not made for sand but they would win on any other ground propably. Love your reactions btw. 😊

"So, there's this Imothep guy. He killed the Pharao. We should put him to death.... OR - hear me out on this - we put a curse on him that turns him into an immortal being with incredible supernatural powers, that can be awakened by reading from this golden book we're not going to destroy, we'll look him into this sarcophagus that can be opened with this key we're not going to destroy, and we'll draw a map to his resting place and guard his grave by standing on a cliff. I mean, what could go wrong?"

A Halloween movie should be anything related to the supernatural the end. As a kid I enjoyed Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein when they'd play that around this time in the 60's. A comedy which featured the classic 'monsters'. As far as Evie, we know the only thing that frightens her are Rick O'Connell's manners. The sequel is excellent and if you enjoyed this director's style, then the follow up to these - Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman - is worth a watch.

"No way that the camels would ever win this, right?" Actually, not the case. While horses are faster than camels in general, camels will run faster than horses across sand.
