I've got news for you, the ship sailed long ago on the notion that kids whose parents stay togerther for the kids sake do them any favours. Nowhere in that trailer do they make the guy seem like he's anything other than a douchebag. "She's my trophy wife who knows when to shut up and service me well" is pretty much the recipe for ending up in divorce court. Turns out 'feelings' are a pretty good way to make decisions.

Andrew Finnell Nah, i don’t think anything is really that «obvious» with the trailer. I think its edited in a very clever way, where the viewer can pretty much make their own interpretation about these characters and what we think its going to be about, but it does a nice way of only teasing without giving away what this story will actually be about and how it’ll unfold. And to me, thats clever and rather unique at this point in time. Take any blockbuster movie, and they’ll do the opposite by showing the audiece a trailer that pretty much spoils and sums the entire film by cramming the entire story into a couple of minutes, leaving nothing to the imagination. This trailer leaves it up to each viewers imagination.

@@suvanaa Thats mostly true but you can put it together fairly easily with the title. The big question the audience has is whether they are married at the end, that part isn't known, but if its actually a 'marriage story' then the court room and the fact the guy who praises all the things his wife does for him but literally has nothing to say to her, well, if thats NOT this movie, then it ought to be a different one since Hollywood still hasn't figured out that half of marriages end in divorce, and most of those STAY divorced. But its true we also don't know whether it devolves to the point where the guy doesn't have custody of his kids and spends all his time talking about how much he hates women and stalking her. Or whether he steps up and realizes that the marriage was just about him. But yeah, they keep showing this 'angel has fallen' shitty looking movie and I watched the whole trailer and figured "well, now I don't have to watch THAT movie". This one could go in all kinds of directions literally based on whatever Scarlett Johanssen wanted to do with it (since its going straight to netflix).

Going heavy on the "nominees" involved is never a good sign, marketing-wise. Selling the "pieces"so hard, and not the "whole" usually leads to a disappointing "whole". For some reason, I'm not buying Adam Driver here. I just can't picture him with Scarlett Johansson (although that may be my own crush on her getting in the way)...

But it could work out for them in the end and dey finally win.

They are able to be eligible for awards by giving it a limited run in some major cities. Then it will be available for everyone else to watch (or not watch) on their Netflix account later on.
