I totally felt that last phrase "this strange and awful time was the happiest of my life". I spent most of 2020 locked at home with my wife and kids. It was strange, it was challenging, it was scary and yet... there was so much happiness there to squeeze. I watched my kids grow day by day like I never got to do before or will ever since, we spent the most intimate of moments together, united in the face of uncertainty. An unwanted situation that put us is an unexpected family sanctuary that I will never forget.

I always asked, why do people have kids, only to leave them for most of the day and miss a vast majority of their life and then wake up one day and they're all grown and going out on their own. I too cherished the moments and it opened my eyes to see that life isn't a 9-5 in an office. It's right here at home. Times have changed and there are many ways to earn an income from home. If it's what you really want, you will find a way. God bless!

"...or will ever since..." does that mean you have returned to work and your children's schedule have pulled them back into the day to day? I hope you find those wonderful times in that family sanctuary, again and again as much as, and whenever, you and yours truly deeply need it.

I remember reading the book back in 2016. I had gotten into a really bad spot with a lung infection and was hospitalised. My mother bought me the book to read and I dug into it once I was moved from Isolation into general recovery. I used a slip of toilet paper as my bookmark of all things. Pretty quickly I was honestly enamoured with the story and its characters and the beautifully bitter sweet messages it told. Although in truth I have forgotten much of the book now, besides the beginning and the final page. I really never thought that random book I was gifted and loved would ever have a sequel, or be adapted in any way. I'm glad I have a sore memory, it'll make watching this all the more enjoyable.

@@lakedawg2462 No. It is a pandemic. They have happened throughout history. Its just people are weak and paranoid now because it's easier and more comforting to think others are behind it rather than accept the reality that we are not totally in control of nature or the planet. The reason why scientists have been working so much on Corona virus research is because of the close call we had with SARS (SARS COV-1) in '03-'04 and this pandemic had a high likelihood of occurring. Having followed the subject closely since then I predicted a pandemic within 5 years in 2017, not because of a crystal ball or magic, but because the science was indicating it. A corona virus was my 2nd choice of causing it, 1st choice was it being caused by the release of a 10,000 year old virus, that we have no defense against, from melting permafrost. So no, it was no "plandemic", that idea was just made up by fruitcake Americans (the most easily scared populace on the planet so are ripe to believing in conspiracies).

What's next, forget heart transplants because it's not worth it because more die from alcohol and drug abuse? That is not how society works and is a really stupid attitude to have. And anyway, you do realise that all these Covid 19 deaths have occurred AFTER steps were taken to mitigate the impact- how bad would they have been without these steps being taken? And that if we carried on on our merry way and pretended that it wasn't serious more mutations would occur of which only 1 would be needed to devastate humanity and take us back to the dark ages. I am just flabbergasted that anyone can think like you indicate with your statement. Absolutely crazy ignorant.

While it was written before Covid, there had been many pandemics in the past. The worst one in modern times, The Spanish Influenza 1918, was no way near as bad as the one in the movie. Even the worst pandemic in history, The Bubonic Plague, of the 14th Century, killed maybe 40% in effected areas, but then again, peopled died young in those days. A simple cut on the arm was fatal. The Spanish Influenza killed around 675,000 in the USA, at the time the population was around 1/3 of what it is today. Yet, society did not change much with the pandemic, and within two years it was back as it had been before.

So based on the book and some help from IMDB, these are the characters I think we hear speaking - "I think this thing is really happening" - Hua. "I can't stay here" - Jeevan. "I stood, looking over the damage, and tried to remember-" - Miranda. "-the sweetness of life on Earth." - Kirsten. "But there is no before." - Miranda. "Only now." - Kirsten. "I was late, and you were early." - Clarke. "I've been adrift, in a stranger's universe, for far too long." - The Prophet. "I have found you nine times before. Maybe ten. And I'll find you again." - Miranda. "There is no rescue mission." - Kirsten. "This strange and awful time was the happiest of my life." - Frank.

@@wplains lol it's hilarious how ppl use woke as an insult. First of all woke doesn't mean leftist or alternative views, it is supposed to mean waking up from the illusion that the powers that be have our best interests at heart, or that the rules made for us make any damn sense besides being means to control us. But let's say woke means what you think it means. Do you think there aren't any gay people in the world lol? Do you think it's better to pretend it's not real and write them out of history? Do you think that will make gay go away? Replace gay with any other thing you think is woke bullshit. This is coming from someone who gets just as irritated at over the top identity politics and pandering in modern media. I also on the other hand felt that a lot of people were very under represented in media before it that stuff started. The pendulum swings hard in the other direction when it's been pulled too far. You're seriously unable to enjoy this work of art because it's not about white heterosexuals reclaiming the earth after a catastrophic global event lol? I'm not offended, I'm just laughing at the logic. Also I pity you for your desire to live in a bubble of ignorance, or your safe space if you will. Snowflakery at its finest.

I recognized Arthur's storyline before the pandemic, and the people surviving after the pandemic. It looks like only change is that Jeevan is watching over the Kirsten during the pandemic, where they pass the time playing characters from Station Eleven. That would help tie the two storylines together, explain why Kirsten is so interested in acting in the post-apocalypse, and it would help explain what the hell "Station Eleven" even is.

@Jude Samson Similar in that it’s about people, after some catastrophic event that changes the world, who are traveling and looking for a fabled “better place” to live. I agree that it’s a completely different vibe though. It also reminds me of Peter Heller’s “The Dog Stars.”

This is hands down one of my favorite novels of the last 10-15 years, but I'm not sure what's going on in this trailer. Did they combine two of the main individual storylines? (Keeping it vague so I don't spoil anyone!)
@SuperOmnicronsj44
@SuperOmnicronsj44 2 жыл бұрын
You wont have to spoil it. Last thing I need to see is a phony "what the world needs now love" when there is so much corruption, divisiveness and lack of control for people's own lives. Good riddance to this. The novel may be ok, this isnt.

I suspect they're splitting the timeline up into before, during and after pandemic. The book was just before and after the pandemic. I think the big change is that they're having Jeevan watch over Kirsten during the pandemic, and reenacting the comic book Station Eleven during that time, which will help tie the before and after timelines together.

One of my favorites also. My jaw hit the ground when I saw this trailer, had no idea this was happening. A great opportunity to crawl back into the book.
@noah.blackwood

I think the only thing that's changed from the book is Kirsten and Jeevan's relationship. I would guess he takes her in when the pandemic starts. He still goes to his brother Frank's house, which I guess might be when Kirsten goes away with her brother, like in the book. Beyond that, almost everything feels the same as the novel, which is good.

That’s how long it takes + a pandemic. Book first needs to be a success, then an option purchase, contracts, then a year or more of development - adapting the book, which could take anything from six to twelve months, depending on the writer, then notes from production , casting, location scouting,4-6 months of shooting, probably the same for editing, music, VFX… these things take time!

Any Anime fans here? Halfway thru and noticed this series has the same type of structure that Boogie Pop Phantom has...a central event hub with the spokes radiating out being the stories of the people affected by that event. I kept sitting here thinking 'where have I seen this before?' and it wasn't the story itself but its structure...great execution (I haven't read the source material so this is my first exposure to it). And yes, it is eerie and accurate for our current times...
