I was living in Paris 25 years ago when my father made his first trip to Europe to visit. He was in the 82nd and 101st airborne after WWII and was a historian who later taught high school history. We went to Normandy and he walked the beaches and walked the cemeteries of The Allies but we were also humbled by the care and respect given German graves. They were just as manicured as the others. Seeing him get lost in the history as we went from place to place to have his fill of putting all the pieces together. We missed the last train back to Paris and had to sleep at the Bayeaux Hôtel de la Gare - a seldom used room in the attic of the brasserie at the station. It was an ancient building and we joked as we shared the old bed with what seemed to be a straw mattress and joked how this must have been how it was 50 years hence. That trip was one of the dearest memories I have of him. Miss you dad. Every day.

We just held a little celebration for a friend who is 104 years old. It marked 80 years since he was rescued after his Halifax crashed into the Mediterranean on July 17th, 1943. He and 5 other crew members were rescued 9 days later. We asked him what kept him going, and he said hope. His pilot was 20 years old, and he landed the Halifax on the ocean, getting all the crew into the dinghy safely before it broke apart. The crash site was 300 miles from the Italian mainland and 150 miles from the North African coast. After 212 hours, they were finally rescued by a British destroyer. A true hero and a gentleman.

This movie is a gem and a lesson of life in one. It honours the greatest generation on both sides of the fence and presents us with a wonderfull manner of bringing the message. 10/10, a film for the ages.

My favorite Michael Caine movie is Harry Brown. It has every emotion that you can think of. Such a brilliant classy actor.

I love Michael Caine's work and he seems to give an amazing performance in this movie - ditto for the late great Glenda Jackson. Caine's performance reminded me of my grandfather, who served in the Pacific theater of WWII. Very excited to see this in the theater!

Guaoo!

Ooouf, that is what I call a perfect little trailer. Makes you smile and then hit's you right in the feels. Can't wait to see it, hopefully it comes to Canada.

I doubt it will come to my little town in Canada. All we get is the Marvel crap, the MI crap, the Fast & Furious crap. God forbid we should get a good movie with terrific actors once in a while.

Next June will be my first visit to Normandy without a D-Day veteran friend with me, or there at at the beaches, they are all gone now. I've been going every 5 years for the major D-Day celebrations, but this one just won't be the same. I am looking forward to this movie, but I am already emotional after watching the clip. Michael Caine is perfect for this role.
