A full RimWorld Ideology 1.3 playthrough in which we try to get to the newly added ending. This is played on the hardest difficulty, Losing is Fun, bumped up to 500%, against Randy Random and not using pause or mods (aside from the mod that makes it so I can't pause etc).

This playthrough was recorded LIVE on Twitch. As such, Adam is speaking with chat throughout. Videos without chat will be listed as 'KZfaq Exclusive'. This is the ENTIRE playthrough, so there will be some episodes in which not much happens, that's just the nature of unedited RimWorld.
*No Pause - Adam is using a mod that disables pause in every portion of the game. This means it is impossible for him to pause with a key press and the game will not pause during events or trade, making things much more difficult.
** Losing is Fun set to +500% is the hardest difficulty in unmodded RimWorld
***Randy is a Rimworld storyteller who is super RNG. Sometimes he is super easy, and other times he is the hardest thing in the game.
**** Lost Tribe is a scenario in which you begin with 5 tribals, some supplies, and 3 random pets. This scenario has very slow research by default.

When guests refuse to work, you can force them to spend almost all their time meditating at the Anima tree - even when they aren't tribal background, they contribute to the grass growing - it is a solid way to get use out of no-work guests.

Just to clarify: 1) you need to assign them a meditation spot near the tree - if they aren't of natural focus, normally they won't go there themselves even when you set their schedule 2) you will get the notification that it is an unusable meditation focus - this just means they aren't gaining psyfocus, not that it isn't growing the grass

Thanks! I suppose we'd want to make that area a little prettier for the picky nobles and such, though, but it's something I'll remember to utilize in the future.

@@AdamVsEverything Edit: I just did some testing and it appears that now only natural focus pawns grow anima grass while meditating - although they don't have to be psycasters, or even psychically sensitive. I don't know if they patched it, or if I had a rare bug in my initial playthrough, but this tip now only works for natural focus no-work guests. So, this tip is still usable, just not as broadly usable.

@@thatotherdavidguy Thanks for the correction! I rememebr telling people before that everyone could help grow the grass as well. So it was probably a thing that got stealth 'fixed' at some point.

Brilliant content dude. You are the Marbozir of RW. I was hoping to suggest some guides; 1) combat and specifically how to beat each of the engagements, 2) game meta such as what your goals are at early, medium and late stages, 3) making money howto and comparing ideas; building and selling art, weapons, clothes, food, drugs 4) best tips list for intermediate players like myself wanting to play on harder difficulties and still win, 5) preferred and must have mods list, or even the list of mods that just make the game more fun. 6) base design and especially kill boxes, but also production lines and your preferred base layouts. Thanks for the great content. I’ve watched several videos and already learned a lot, thank you!

I put an autobong near the spot where traders come in and many times they'll show up with some old frail person who can't handle their smoke. They pass out, the traders leave, and then I return them for goodwill. I found out about this by accident when somebodys grandma walked into my hotbox and had a freak out. I haven't tried them in my killbox yet because I figured they would just get attacked, but I didn't realize they could go around walls like that. I'm about to sell my first base so I'll probably set up a system like that for the next one. But the real reason to play High Life is for the mindbend carpets lets be honest.

You keep saying "we're keeping the wealth low," but this base is living the high life compared to the melee-ers. I'm pretty sure the noble in danger quest is only available for crashlanded and rich explorer. The risk of doing the "all random run" is that you'll end up with an awesome pawn, great map, and winning ideology and people will say "cheater!"

Lol, yeah, still pretty low wealth for now on here too, though! The melee run and the tiny map were on another level, though. That is interesting about the noble in danger quest, as I know I have experienced it, and I never play those two starts. I thought it was related to me turning off the 'honor quests' thing in quest preferences. You are probably right, because I'd lose all the crappy ones quickly and hardly anyone would see those ones lol. It's kind of like in the 20 year run how people were like 'MAN YOUR RANDY IS SO EASY FOR 2+ YEARS WHAT????', well, that's the nature of Randy, you didn't see the 16 losses, some of which were on day 1 or 2, lol.

I love the mushroom gravel from tunnelers. Once I figured out you can grow devilstrand in it, I setup 4 strand farms around grow lamps. I might need to get a dorf mod to make it more accurate.

kinda cool to hear you talk about starcraft, also protoss is cool as hell (lore and aesthetic wise) zerg too tbh... well to be 100% fair all 3 factions are great, but zerg and protoss are a bit more interesting for me (Although I have a special place in my heart for the siege tank, not because I know how to use them, but because it is a cool as hell idea for a unit, and I loved using them in story coop) that being said, I was *not good* at all, but the game was fun, enjoyed the story mode, coop, and did some games with a few friends.

it's too late but there is a neet trick you can do with these sorts of bases. you make two parallel hallways with the main one to your bases exit that have doors going to them from the main hallway. then when an attack happens you can have all the enemies funneled into the main hallway and have your pawns firing from the doors down it, when a threat makes it to a pawn you just close the door and move them down the hallway and open the door again, even better if you stager the two hallways doors so that one pawn on one side can fire across to an enemy pawn trying to enter a door.

I do like doing that, and used to do so more often, but it got much harder with the whole no pause thing. Some times I would be too slow getting them back through their door and the enemy would get there and stop it from opening and I'd have a deadly 1 on 1 situation while everyone else is trying to bounce between the other attackers. I may try to see if I can do it in a way to give even more time to allow for no pause craziness, maybe spacing the doors even further apart or such. Thanks for the idea!

I'm amazed by how when you set a pawn to mining or planting, they just seem to do it til complete without you having to manage it. On my games, I feel like I've got 10 pawns and it takes them forever to get anything done unless I micromanage them to death. They are always wandering off for one reason or another to do something else. I think I've got the work priorities set up ok, but I probably don't.

One big thing that helps is allowance zones. You'll see me use the zone menu a lot (especially the 'Work' zone I make). This helps make sure that my pawns are only walking around and working in the areas I want them to be and stops them from venturing across the map to grab a chunk or such. Not sure if that will help with your setup without seeing it, but I live by it!

I had a human *breach raid, they destroyed the wall nearest to their spawn. Then they split up and all went to different outer walls and broke in individually. So definatly needs some tuning.

yeah the breach AI has been crazy! I think we figured some things out about their AI over on my Discord, though. Will post more about it as we get it all figured out :P

I put an autobong in my dining area so they would get the mood buff from highlife but not spend too much time stoned. Sucks when someone would get food poisoning and need to be rescued everytime they tried to eat

Great content. One quick question: if you sell a bunch of leather for silver does your net colony wealth decrease since you are not getting full value for the sale?

Yep! You're basically always selling at a loss. You can check the 'market value' of an item in its info pane by clicking the i button and then comparing it to the vendor. I think you can also hover vendor prices to see what all is affecting their prices.

I think had you agrod the thrumbos, while closing the killbox the Thrumbos would have gon after the mech cluster (after blocking them with a sturdy door).

Probably so. But, since 1.3, I've had animals attack the mechs at the clusters but leave the turrets unharmed and then retreat after the individual mechs were dead. It's very weird. I think it even happens once during this playthrough. I'll have to keep an eye out while I am doing timestamps.

For sure! I try to mention that more often lately (I think I did a bit during the melee run). On a normal playthrough, a single donkey is the equivalent of like 80 stone tiles (as far as raid point difficulty goes). Just don't go crazy with wealth with 20 bedrooms of fine carpet and 5,000 fine meals in the freezer and wonder why raids are big, lol.

The shooting accuracy works for indoors as well as outdoors right? Both give +25%?

Yes, as long as there is 0 light/sun in the entire room at that time. One broken wall or missing roof removes the buff, currently.

No mods, really, just a mod that removes the pause function, extra music, and one that shows both Cº and Fº. The drag feature is something newly added for 1.3.

It is the third best protective textile in the game and the only one of those top 3 you can produce yourself. Only Thrumbofur and Hyperweave are better at sharp protection (bullets are sharp damage).

You should get the mod Camera+, because you're moving the camera several times a second.

Is it just me or is the anima grass not growing? Its gone from 17 to 18 and back to 17 a few times. Is it affected by sunlight?

You talk about wealth a lot but I have no idea what it means other than more wealth=tougher raids. Are there any videos explaining exactly what kind of wealth results in what raids you have to deal with?

Wealth is how much money/items your base nas for exemple if you have 4 legendary pulse charge guns and furniture you got more wealth TL:DR. If you got good shit the pirates will want to steal it

I got 20 man raid at 16k wealth, which is so much lower than 40k, i dont know why

Did you remove the insect faction so you could have a chill mountain base? I play with a "no infestation" mod myself because i'm not a fan of the mechanic, but I'll admit I am a bit disappointed not to see high-level mountainbase gameplay with anti-insect action.

Just for this one playthrough. I am currently doing a high-wealth fluid ideology run with insects turned on (on stream), which will be uploaded after the Transhumanist run is fully on here.

@Adam, from an older dude who plays this like nuts: @10:00 What do you gain rushing all pawns without even checking their food or rest needs... where the enemy will eventually get 1/2 day later? This is what we all did on our *first* game, but your commentary makes me suspect you're neons past that. Btw yours is the single v1.3 LP I keep watching so there must be something in it.

The schedule he uses reliably keeps rest and recreation above 60%; I'll vouch for that.

Due to no pause, I often just immediately draft and click to send everyone as soon as I hear an alert. If it turns out we then have more time left, I'll just zone restrict and send them back to work for a little bit. I've died too many times while going to see if they were 'preparing for a while' or what not and them already being on top of me (attacking immediately, actual drop pods, etc). If you mean forcing them to do things like finish work, haul, etc without checking food/rest/recreation, that's mainly a product of using the crazy biphasic sleep schedule. I really need to make a full guide on it, but pretty much everyone is always at a decent rest/recreation/food level due to it so I never really worry to check. @@AdamVsEverything Thanks! So you still minimize chances your colonists goes nuts (like that imperial friend lol) due to consequences of bad mood as they stay starving in the dard/light. And the No Pause challenge makes that you wont take the risk to evaluate the speed of the threat, making it looks like a newbie reaction for the unattentive watcher. That and the multi Research benches allowing for decent progress in that field as soon as the fight ends, gotcha! Struggling as I am with all the stuff to do in the first couple of years (especiallly Tribals + no mods), loosing half a day x all pawns would be excruciating lol I'd have to test No Pause. Oh and thank you for sharing your tests of converting prisonners in Ideology. Appreciated man. EDIT: ...Except the "Convert prisoner and he will join when released" does not work in my current game (also tribal).

@@TukozAki No problem! Yeah, no pause is crazy, and has super shaped the way I paly now (especially when it comes to reacting to threats). I basically just assume every threat is immediately a centipede drop and over-react right away. Better to over-react and not have needed it than under appreciate the threat and lose. I also usually do really really long playthroughs, so those extra days of missed work aren't as bad for me in the gran scale of things.
