Love the curiosity of cows with something new. Another family in our 4-H club pastured their herd across the road, moved them twice a day for milking. The county came along, slightly widened the road and re-pave it. First time, the cows would not cross it. Solution, spread some straw on the road and across the road they went. I really like the thought that went into the details with the gates, excellent planning.

Fantastic barn. A lot of neat features. If the cows appear to be bending the larger gates separating the pens, cut holes in the concrete and sink a sleeve that you can drop a removable post into to act as a support for the the gates against the weight of cows pushing against them. When post is removed to clean the pens, fabricate a small piece of pipe with a flat piece of steel on top, then drop the small pipe into the sleeve and the flat piece of steel will prevent manure from dropping into the hole.

How exciting to see the heifers moved into the new barn. Swing gates: check; bedding procedure: check with modifications to be determined; floor slats: operationally tested satisfactory. It’s all good my friend. The barn looks outstanding and the moos seem to really enjoy it. Typical cows though. If you don’t want them to do something like leave a field. Sure as shootin’ they bust down or go through a fence. Same with walking on the new slat floor. Lol Very happy for you folks. Take care & stay safe. Cheers PS there’s a graphite spray (Molykote?) available that may help make your gates slide (collapse/extend) more smoothly.
