Moved here in 2008 from southern Ontario. Do not regret it whatsoever! Calgary has the mountains an hour away but Edmonton has soooooo much more to offer. Plus the Flames suck, lol😂

You should also mention that: 1- Alberta has the highest electricity charges and car insurance premiums in Canada 2- Water is very scarce in major cities 3- there are municipal franchise fees on all utility bills 4- municipalities charge for waste water 5- Alberta has the highest property taxes in the country

This really is irrelevant when you don't have to pay 1.5 million dollars for a 1000 sq ft house like you do in vancouver. Or toronto etc. I live in Edmonton and pay about 3500 a year for my house tax on a 1200 sq foot bungalow with a big front and back yard on a beautiful quiet street. I work 1 job. Can afford my house. Insurance. Food. And have money left over for vacations. Motorcycles. Etc. In fact my house will be paid off in 2 more years or so.

I've been talking to job seekers and been seeing a lot of posts lately about people struggling to find work in Edmonton. This is happening in all Canadian cities right now but I was expecting it to be better in Edmonton.

I left Edmonton about eleven yrs ago. I was in Alberta for over twenty yrs but got tired of the boom bust cycles. I lived first in Calgary in the 90's, then Lethbridge before moving to Edmonton. May even think of retirement there.

I live in Edmonton, I moved from Southern Alberta (moved closer to the family) It's a big city, with big city social and traffic challenges, while I love the City, I prefer smaller towns and villages!

I agree! Edmonton is getting to be a very big city. I personally live in St.Albert, but if I wasn't a real estate agent I would live in a rural town or hamlet.

Yeah. I live central and mostly just walk everywhere. Biking and transit have me covered the rest of the time. The few times I actually need/want to drive, I just use the car share. It's much cheaper than owning and once I'm done with the car it goes away and becomes someone else's problem.

I've never needed a car to live here. Owned one for a couple of years but sold it last fall because even in winter I rarely ever drove anywhere and it's much cheaper to just use the car share at the few times I need/want to drive. But that depends upon the part of the city you live in.

I noticed you missed the major part, which is West Edmonton Mall. In addition, those who come from countries that love soccer don't care about hockey or make it a big deal, in my opinion. Soccer is the sport that is growing the fastest in Canada, and I love it!

Edmonton or Calgary for me. Love and respect from Colorado, USA

"From the perspective of having lived in both places, Calgary seems preferable. The presence of Chinook winds makes winters milder, and the Rockies being within a 1-hour reach provides easy access for leisure. Calgary also excels in job diversity. Of course, real estate and rent are higher, mainly due to a scarcity of land for building compared to Edmonton. The higher cost in Calgary has its reasons, and it holds advantages in terms of investment as well."

I am a nurse in ontario and dabbling in the idea of moving to Alberta in a few more years... I prefer rural but close to a city so i can work in a hospital. What are the best rural places to live near edmonton or calgary? Thanks for this informative video!!
@spartancanuck
@spartancanuck 4 ай бұрын
Depends upon what you mean by "rural" and what kind of environment you want. You probably don't want to be posted to either of the city centre hospitals (Royal Alex or University) unless you like long commutes. But there's hospitals in places like Ft. Saskatchewan and St. Albert, where you could live on an acreage or in the smaller towns somewhere like Sturgeon County and have a reasonable commute. I wouldn't personally live east of the city because it sets you up to be directly downwind of refinery row. And south can be a bit flat and bare.

Check out St Albert or Red Deer. Both are pretty great spots outside of Edmonton. Red Deer, in particular, has a nice feel to it.

Hey Robert, to be entirely honest I think it's like any decently sized city. Overall I would say people in Edmonton are friendly. More welcoming than Toronto for sure. Everyone is very work focused in Edmonton though. The work environment is very fast paced.

@@rossstoroshenko You are absolutely right, Toronto is not a very nice place and the people are so rude, unhelpful, unfriendly, and have no compassion whatsoever. I've been here for 28 years and I hate it. If you don't have connections or know people, you can't make money, you can not have a decent life or income or even find a permanent job.
