I've found that if I put a plastic lawn bag down to collect the dirt from my hole it is much easier to clean up after I've installed the head.

Good idea! Then you can move it to fill in the spot where you took it from.

A little trickier with the PVC lines I installed 30 years ago, but it can be done as well - just a little more digging.

One thing to think about is the depth of the funny pipe in regards to if you plan to aerate in the future. Other than that nice job! 👍🏼. Looks like a great spot to put a head for when the kids are sitting in the lawn chairs and you sneak away to turn on the irrigation system 😁

Awesome video. I just trying to dig my new sprinkler system and this is the only video that talk about it. I did everything by my self but now, seens that have something like pipes and I just can't dig enough.. some advice?

Very helpful tips one other way I layed the piping was I used the edging tool like you used and made a single wedge and prying up the sod very slightly then tuck in the funny pipe or pvc I do both then mash the sod/soil back together leaving only a thin seam. Thanks for sharing I wanted to share one of my tricks too😁😁👍👍

Thanks for your video. I once had to make a quick video of the noise a worn out wheel bearing makes, and that's right when the neighbor's yard guy started his leaf blower. Unlucky timing. Had to do the video again later.

I couldn’t see the connection to the old funny pipe. If I have a white main pipe with a short funny pipe connected to it and the old sprinkler I’m removing, would I unscrew the connection to the white main pipe and screw a new right angle piece to connect the new funny pipe, or would I just cut off and remove the existing funny pipe off the connector to add the new pipe to the old connection, or would I just cut the old funny pipe midway and just use a piece to join the old funny pipe with the new funny pipe and not mess with the connection to the white pvc main line?

One reason to to bury the line deeper than you did is so it doesn't ever get damaged in the future if somebody runs an aerator over that spot, pulling 3-4" plugs out of the dirt.

Helpful video, but rocks to hold the Riser in position? I placed pieces of rubber between the rocks and the Risers to hold them where I wanted them before replacing the dirt and sod. Because I don't know if the vibration I saw in the uncovered Riser while checking for a leak could cause the rocks to wear holes in the Riser. Also, in a pinch very hot water can be used to soften the funny pipe, it just takes longer ......

If I want to add maybe a couple more sprinkler heads but I have no access to the pvc pipe, would it be functional to use funny pipe for it? Long story short: A company that I paid to extend my driveway screwed up zone 1 (THEY DIDN'T CAP IT! BELIEVE OR NOT!) So an area of my yard died because we can't use zone 1 anymore because we don't feel like it is safe to see water gushing out in the driveway between 2 cement plates. I want to tap on another zone to cover it... but with funny pine and 2 more heads? Yay or Nay?

Did you originally put in the system yourself or did you have it installed and now you just do the maintenance on it? I was thinking about possibly a system down the road, but I've got an acre yard, and don't think I'd be able to put everything in myself to start with.

I am a 43 year veteran of this profession. NEVER run funny-flex-pipe more than 24"-30" max. Not only is it manufacturers standards it is also very good service common sense. If you do not understand the service part, you are not a professional.

@GrassDaddy

Funny pipe is a flexible tubing that is now used. It can take more abuse and last longer than PVC, and you can use a pipe puller instead of digging a ditch on the initial installation.
