Moving to Florida has become unattractive in 2024. With so many people moving to Florida the locals are leaving in droves. But not only local people, people who have moved to Florida in the last 3 years are also regretting the move to the sunshine state and going back to their home states. The cost of living in Florida, cost of housing in Florida and the overdevelopment are all negatives for most.

My siblings still live there with paid off homes as well as mine is. However, their monthly expenses are triple of mine. All the best. Jim from Georgia

Moved out of Florida in 22 after nearly 40 years . Sold our properties for what we considered to be an outrageous sum and left the State . But we are now living a much quieter and slower life . While the Florida we loved is now just a distant memory . The new comers now flooding the State will never know what we old Floridians had .

Two weeks in Florida in January or February is about all of that place I can take. A nice hotel suits me fine and when I leave, I don’t have to worry about property taxes, insurance, hurricane damage or crazy high HOA fees. But, that’s just me.

Florida is still wonderful despite a lot of negatives. The scenery and weather here is awesome except for SUMMER and hurricanes! The problem is too many people from up North have swarmed here, so no home inventory and killer traffic. I still enjoy living close to the beach and lots of places to visit within the state.

Hey Lady, when I was born the state had a population of around 2.5 million people. Today there are what, prit'near 22 million people crammed into our fair state? Best I remember there were two area codes 813 and 305. Now I can't even count 'em. The hospital I was born in was 30 miles away because the town didn't have a maternity ward in their 20 bed hospital. Take the good with the bad I guess. If I didn't own my home outright I wouldn't be able to afford to live here, but I sure wished the Damned Yankees would pull up stakes and leave. Getting around town is almost impossible. Nut to Butt all the way. Keep cranking out those vids and I keep a watchin'! Thanks for your time and effort!

1. Florida is a transient state. It's difficult to make real friends. Social capital ranks near the bottom of 50 states. 2. Over development. I used to walk home from school and go through orange groves. Now it's all ugly asphalt roads and cheap strip malls. 3. Corporations are buying up tons of real estate and jacking up prices. 4. There are few parks. I have to drive 20 miles for a park that is nothing more than a lump of sand. 5. Sinkholes, thanks to overpopulation and the depletion of aquifers, are everywhere. 6. The weather is getting hotter by the year. The humidity is unbearable. 7. DeSantis is a bully who caves to the demands of corporations and not people. 8. Wages are appalling. I know of 10 people who live in a tiny 2 BR house. 9. Snakes go into our houses to warm themselves. Snakes are everywhere. Alligators are found in sreet corners. Their land has been destroyed. 10. Horible traffic congestion and rude drivers. 11. Floridians are not known for hospitality. People are mean.

Hi Lisa. Good clip. I've posted here before and as a former Miami high rise condo owner and Board President during a 40-year tumult, I chose to exit that mess. I sold my unit 2 months ago for the reasons you mentioned. However, I am on the 50-yard line as to whether it means ditching Florida as if it's Miami (or any other big city) or nothing. A year before selling, I went to scout out the Tampa Bay region (I lived there at the turn of the century: 1998-2002) and while I liked the Gulf side, the land side was a low carb version of Miami and the overall value as a renter just wasn't there for me. So, what to do? An old Miami friend contacted me late last year just when I had decided it was really time to sell. He lives halfway up the east coast of Florida in Satellite Beach, just east of Melbourne. I went and checked it out for vibe and quality of life after looking online at rent rates up there beforehand. In the end, I sold out and moved into an apartment up there. My housing costs were less than half the cost of living in the condo. Rents have most likely peaked so my costs will remain steady while the ex-condo will continue to rise massively in costs. The worst aspects of BEING OWNED BY a condo (which is what it has turned into) is that there are no cost controls. Too many entities have a license to steal. With all the other negatives of condos, particularly high rises at or bear the coast, they are no longer suitable for the middle class. As far as I'm concerned, they are PURE POISON financially for the middle class. Many of the negatives you cited aren't really the case up there, or at least to a much lesser degree. In the end, those facing affordability issues should consider some of the smaller towns of Florida before giving up the good aspects of Florida living. If that does not remain the case, as a renter I can just leave it behind without worrying about selling a place. Staying light on my feet is important to me.

We were invaded by New Yorkers during the Plandemic who drove up prices. Only way to win in the Northeast is sell snd move South. You mentioned that new construction is the best option because of the insurance price. Can you explain this? If 2 houses are very similar in size, one is 20 years old with new roof and one is new construction with impact windows and new roof, what's the difference? $100 or $1000?
@TheRealLivingWithLisa
@TheRealLivingWithLisa 3 ай бұрын
I'd like to give you a clear answer but insurance a varies greatly... IF... you find a home with a new roof, I'm pretty sure the insurance will still be higher, because these insurance companies look at everything, like age of the electrical panel, water heater, AC, The roof tie downs on an older home potentially bring a higher premium too. Call an insurance agent and ask their expert opinion.

We were looking in south west Florida. In 2019 there was a vast supply of really nice homes on the water with a pool and boat dock for +/- $300,000. Then BAM! The election and almost instantly those homes doubled in price, compounded with rising interest rates, we were done. The same homes were more expensive than homes here In Massachusetts the second highest market in the country! We did put in an offer for $70,000 over asking and did not get it. Fortunately Or unfortunately, the house was nearly demolished very soon after when hurricane Ian hit. We would have lost everything. Such a sad situation down there. Heat and humidity are small prices to pay for living in a state that is run like America is supposed to be. DeSantis has done a good job pushing back against the left's craziness. I'd rather be here than anywhere in the USA.

I moved from PA. to Spring Hill Florida 20 years ago and I love it here. You can buy a decent 2/2/1 for less than $200,000 and a 3/2/2 for $275,000 (I own 5.) Citrus County is even more affordable. If you prefer to spend big bucks, Palm Beach and St. Pete are an option. Don't like it her, try Denver, LA, or NYC, bu bye! Canadians welcome, bring money. :-) Hurricanes? The Carolina s have it harder.

It's all about greed. Money, money, money, money, money! Since the elections in 2020, and what (not who) we got for president, and Ron DeSantis's campaigning, I thought that politically, Florida would be the place to be. But I occasionally remember that Florida gets swamped and hammered on both sides by hurricanes, so I've remained very hesitant about going there for anything. I'm not even sure about Texas. Get sucked up and blown to pieces in a tornado. I live in San Diego County, California, and SoCal has almost everything in geology and landscape anyone could wish for. You can see the world without leaving the state. But politics here are in some ways more corrupt than anywhere else in the nation, and my idea of the next best place is possibly Arizona. Nice, warm, and sunny. Whatever. Florida? I don't know. Maybe someday, but I kinda doubt it.
