Just wanted to share my opinion on the situation after going through the comments, i'm born and raised here on Oahu (neighbor island to maui) and its so great to see people visiting and appreciating the island and all it's beauty, but there is a real problem with so many foreigners (people from the mainland) who move to the islands 1. over population, like I said there are many people from the mainland who are moving here and buying big chunks of land to build their houses or move into a new homes and it's taking away the land from locals who have lived here all their life, and while foreigners buy land, it also opens the door for prices to go higher because foreigners make a significantly larger amount of income compared to locals, that leads into my next point. 2. financial lifestyle, mainlanders make a significantly higher pay wage compared to the starting minimum wage here on the islands ($10.10) and to live "comfortably" you need to be making about $122,00 ( I say that very loosely). Now as foreigners move in, land becomes scares and prices become higher because it's high demand to have land and new homes, and it's great for mainlanders because of the pay difference but for locals (including myself) it is significantly harder for us to find homes and apartments because the prices go up while our pay stays the same, and not just the rent itself, but utilities and home essentials also become increasingly harder to pay for. Now, my next topic, resources. 3. limited resources, since we are located in the middle of the pacific ocean, many of our resources must be imported from other locations, which means the more supplies coming in must also match the demand of how many residents living here and those also visiting (people on vacation), which intern means the prices must go higher to match the demand. Now I don't want anyone thinking im hating on people who move here, I simply just want to inform and make those aware that it is a blessing and a privilege to be able to move and live on these small over populated islands, it truly is a gift from God, but please be mindful and compassionate to those who already live here and have been living here for generations. As time goes on, land is taken away from the native Hawaiians (those born of HAWAIIAN BLOOD) and it becomes extremely difficult for them to keep their traditions and practices alive because they are loosing their resources. For generations native Hawaiians have taken care of these sacred lands that held many battles, royal families and monarchs. there is so much rich history to learn about the islands and it's slowly being forgotten and replaced with this idea that these sacred lands are just some pretty beaches with palm trees and blue skies. many foreigners move here to live the aesthetic vacation lifestyle but forget that there are families and traditions that are struggling and continue to struggle due to people taking advantage. Someone asked for things that you could do to help, and it is very unrealistic to ask that people don't move here, but it is a partial solution, instead of moving here maybe instead just visit and learn to appreciate the land, and don't buy real-estate to use as a "vacation home" because when you do that, you are taking away homes and land from the locals for yourself to only use that land maybe 2-3 months out of the year OR LESS, when locals and natives could use that land to live or continue traditions. Also, if you visit or live here, it's very much appreciated if you could respect our rules and traditions and just be mindful that this isn't just a vacation island, this is a home for many past and future generations. and a little support for our local business are always much appreciated since small business are very big here on the islands and a lot of hard work goes into them from the many locals, natives and families that run these small business to keep a comfortable stable lifestyle. sorry for the long comment, but thank you if you made it this far and im absolutely over the moon happy for Kian and her family to have found a home that God is calling you towards. and for those thinking of visiting or moving here, I just hope you keep in mind these points that I've made and I highly recommend if you visit to not just stay on the beach but also learn about the islands, because like I said, there is so much rich history and traditions that we would love to share with you, we just ask that you be mindful and respectful. Mahalo from your favorite Island girl🌺

So much facts in this comment 👏🏽 thank you for sharing what is happening in Hawai’i. It is so insane how much rent prices have gone up, that a super old shabby house is a minimum of 600k. It’s so sad. Let’s spread this knowledge. For the ‘aina who rightfully belongs to those Kanaka. Aloha

THIS. I think it's important particularly as believers to love our neighbors by perhaps sacrificing our wants for their needs and in this case that means don't move to a place that will result in displacement of the natives.

hello! for people who want to move here i have some things to mention ( as a hawaiian person ). it is the most expensive state to live in, mostly because everything has to be imported, but also because of over population; too many people are moving here. Hawai'i is a very small chain of islands and its sacred land, and by more people moving here it's making the native hawaiians who live here struggle more. The minimum wage here is 10.10 and the salary you need to live comfortably in Hawaii is 122,000, which most people do not make.

@@juliananavia2498 You asked what people can do to help ameliorate the issues that arise for natives due to overpopulation and the answer is to not move there. It's pretty simple. Whether it's practical or not is a whole different conversation. There are tons of other places to move, but if one feels their desire to move to Hawai'i specifically is more important than the desires of the natives and the negative impact it could cause then yes, you're right no one can technically stop them. I'd personally consider it to be selfish unless there's a specific calling from God, but I understand that everyone has their reasons and is ultimately going to do what they want. I won't speak for her, but from my perspective I think the point of her comment is to at least make people think twice about moving there and recognize that they will be contributing to the overpopulation issue and doing so against the desires of the people native to that beautiful land. To each their own. God bless sweetie :)

With Covid, resorts, tourism, and people moving there. Tbh it’s displacing the native Hawaiians there. Lack of water resources, destruction and restriction of cultural sites, gentrification, and also Hawaii is illegally occupied. I know God has something out there for you and I know you want to live in Hawaii. But reading from the current situation of how Hawaii is and Native Hawaiians (their ancestry & culture specifically tied to this land) I don’t think it’s … ethical.

I moved to hawaii 3 years ago, i lived i New York City many many years. I wasn’t happy in New York anymore, my marriage ended because my ex husband didn’t want to be married to me anymore, i was heart broken and so sad. I pray to God to take me to a new place and start a new life, no more cold winter. I could move to Florida or any other warmer state. But God spoke on my ears hawaii. I didn’t know where hawaii was located and knew nothing about hawaii, even i hadn’t the dream to came and visit. (I’m from Brazil) I don’t know some much geology lol. But any way I follow God’s will, and i moved by myself, knowing no one, but i been very happy and bless here, i have a great church and friends. I respect the island and the locals, and i groom beautiful dogs all over oahu. Aloha 😊

So excited for you guys! The beaches and sunsets are gorgeous. And what an amazing deal with the time share! Totally the Lord! Excited for everything to be renovated (will definitely need bathroom storage for products and sunscreens!) and for y’all to be settled in and make it home 💜 Nearly 10 years ago my family and I lived in Oahu- different island than you guys, but it’s so cool to watch you experience all the newness and excitement of island living. Not sure if this is just an Oahu thing, but there were lots of cockroaches. Thank God we never dealt with them in our home, but mostly outside in the city. Hopefully Maui doesn’t deal with that! But if so, a bug bomb will do the trick! They told us to try not to step on them because they release a smell that attracts more to the area where the last one was squished (?) Helpful tips! Can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for you guys here! Blessings in all areas in Jesus Name💜🥰🙏🏻📖

I have many memories in Hawaii. It all began in December 2005. Houses When I first arrived in Hawaii. I began my journey in the Earhart neighborhood and I was lived in a ranch house. I would often get coach roaches in this house. But one the pros was that I had a secret alleyway to a swing. I also walked to my school Nimitz elementary school. I also lived closed to wooden playground where I would play and one time I saw a rainbow after it rained. This is also where I began my journey with henry my first dog. Then later on in 2006 or 2007. My parents and I then moved to a house on Gemini Avenue and we lived on a neighborhood court. I also would play tag games on television later starting in the year 2008. My school I was in 3rd grade when I first moved to Hawaii and for me leaving Dakota valley elementary was very hard at first. I also went ice skating once with my class and went to the Hawaiian plantation village and made an animal for the science fair that I had my school which I have today. I also remember watching the movie anne and playing a puzzle game on the computer in my classroom. Then in 4th grade I remember going to the loi and the bishop museum and the palace. In 5th grade I did star base and got my own rocket and I also watched monster house one night at my school on October 27th 2007. I also remember playing math keys on my computer.I also did a pasta night one time with my school. I also remember the craft my school would have every December. For 6th grade I remember doing a camping trip in January 2009 and my 6th celebration at the oceans 808 and graduation on June 5th 2009. I also remember bike education at my school in 4th grade back then I used to be very afraid to ride bikes. I also remember doing freedom walk for 9/11 in 2006 for 4th grade and 2008 for 6th grade. I also remember fall festival at my school. I had outback for dinner one year on October 19th 2007 for fall festival and jumba juice on October 24th 2008 for the fall festival. For my Christmas program I also sang it’s a Christmas luau for 4th grade and it’s a marshmallow world in 5th grade on December 20th 2007 and it’s a soldiers silent night in 6th grade. My friends Annika and Nadia I remember going bowling with Annika and Nadia and I also remember one time they came over the Super Bowl At my family house. I also remember them sleeping over my family house and it was a nightmare. I also remember seeing them at ala Mona center one night. I also remember seeing the movie enchanted with them and seeing Horton heard a who with them at the Pearl ridge mall. One time we went to the park together and janell Liam sippy cup and he was not happy and one time I went to their house after the park and Nadia said the room was clean and she lied. One time when I at their house a light fixture broke in their room. I also remember going to boo fest with them on October 19th 2007. I also went trick or treating with them on Halloween 2007. The last time I saw them was in June 2009 when my dad had to return a family guy dvd to Justin. I also watched eight below and happy feet with them one night at my house. I also remember playing play dough with them at my house sometimes too. I also remember celebrating Nadia and Liam birthdays at their house and I remember I had to share my 9th birthday with Annika because our birthdays were close together. I had a white cake and she had a strawberry cake. I also remember going to the wooden playground with Nadia and other playground on base too. I also going the Hickam beach with them. I also going to a restaurant with them. Bethany One day I went outside in my neighbor court to play. I met a girl named Bethany who moved all the way from Germany to Hawaii. I would ride bikes with her and I got her play dough for her 5th birthday in November 2008. I also played her sister Hannah to sometimes when she was little at that time. I also had dinner with them on June 6th 2009 and Bethany was so sad that I was moving away and it a rough year for her because her dad was away in Iraq the same year I left for Hawaii. Gabby Another friend mine was gabby. She had separation anxiety when she was younger one time she cried when her mother went to the store and my friend Bethany and another one who name I can’t spell had to comfort her and Jack told her that mother was never coming back which I thought was not nice at all. She also loved climbing her dads car and she climbed all the way to the top of her dads car. I also had a play date once in her house and one time she went to Bethany house and her dad didn’t know and I told him and he was annoyed because he looked all over in the house for her but he understood. One time Molokai her black lab dog got our of their backyard who is had passed away now I’m sure. Holidays I remember swimming every Christmas in Hawaii. I also remember the weather being just right for trick or treating on Halloween every year and one Halloween I went trick or treating with my grandmother. I also remember doing trick or treating on boat in Pearl Harbor on October 30th 2008 the day before Hawaii. I also remember having a Valentine’s Day celebrating with my neighbors and I went to josh and remmy house to party with the other neighbors kids and friends. While the adults came over to my family house. I also remember going to farrells with my mother and grandmother on my 11th birthday. I also remember going to Indian place on my mother 39th birthday in June 2009 just before we left. I also remember my grandparents coming for thanksgiving 2007. I also remember celebrating thanksgiving and Christmas 2008 with the neighborhood kids and we had an inflatable water slide. I also remember watching fireworks at the beach for the 4th of July every year. I also went to China town for every China new year. I also swam at the Hickam pool on New Year’s Eve 2008 on my winter break off of school and I played with a girl once. I also saw Marley and me for Christmas Eve 2008. One time I got shave ice at north shore for Memorial Day weekend one year. Swimming I remember swimming at Hickam beach. One time a girl at the beach had her back turned meanwhile I was boogie boarding and I saw her toy floating out Into the ocean I grabbed it and I managed to get it returned to her. I also remember my mother would ride her bike to the beach often. I also remember bellows beach where I would do boo fest every October. I also swam at the Hickam pool. One time when I was in the deep end at the pool the lifeguard asked how old I was and I told him 11 because this happened after I turned 11 in June 2008 and it turn out that you had to be 11 or older to be I the deep end so I got to stay while two other girls who 10 and 8 at that time had to get out. One time I also taught a girl named Ariel how to jump in the pool because her father was trying to get her to do that but she afraid to do herself at first. I also would go to north shore beach for shave ice. Shopping I did shopping at the base exchange and commissary on base. One time my mother dropped something in the store and she had to go all way back to the front of the store to get it and the navy exchange in Pearl Harbor where I got my glass turtle and some toys which I still have today. I also would eat ice cream on the second floor balcony. I also would go to ala Mona center where I got Disney toys sometimes as well as build a bears some of which I still have today. I also went to Macaroni grill once at the mall for a good bye party one of my dads co workers who was moving to Texas at time who is probably stationed or retired somewhere else now I’m sure. I also went to the ward center sometimes time too and I ate the old spaghetti factory too at the ward warehouse which is not around anymore unfortunately. I also would go into borders at the ward center with my parents too. I also went to Pearl mall too sometimes shopping and for my dentist appointments and I would also ride the monorail there too.

@@SL-xw4sf I get it, it just would've nice to see more front and center travel content - like "Exploring such and such a place". I thought that's what it was going to be, but that was never in the thumbnail or title. But it's good to see her here in Hawaii.

To whoever is reading this- God loves you so so much,He wants to make everything okay with you❤️He knows your pain, He knows how you feel, He loves you so much and for that reason He sent Jesus (the worlds savior😊) to die so that we could all be made right with God if we asked for forgiveness and to start again through Him (because the thing that separates us from God is sin, which everyone of us has done, BUT God loved the world so much that He sent His Son to take the punishment for us & so that through Him we would be forgiven and have eternal life)💕He loves us so much that if we ask for forgiveness and a new start He will give it to us!His love is unconditional, His love is never ending, and His love is for you! He loves you just as much as anybody else! One of His promises is that He will never leave us, He is always going to stay by our side and in fact He always goes before us to work everything out!💕You matter so so much to Him, You are enough for Him, You are never to far away from Him- He loves you always! And the cool thing is that He wants a relationship with you! He wants a relationship with every single person, and He wants to make us all okay again!💕💕💕💕💕

If you know the history of hawai’i then you know the ministries that settled there brought disease, plagues and political enemies that wiped out 80% of the indigenous population over the past 1.5 centuries. It is a beautiful place that I’ve been fortunate to visit multiple times the past 12 months, but you should really understand their culture and history. I’ve thought of moving myself because I have the right as a US citizen, but you really should take the above in to consideration and make sure you’re moving there with just cause rather than livi;g some spiritual paradise fantasy, which is what I saw out there quite a bit. Sad to see very few native Hawaiians working front of house at any of the businesses or establishments…
