I moved to Mexico 3 years ago from UK. I was shocked at how free we are here. It's just the best place to live. Been in player del Carmen for 3 years not even seen one fight. And 12% on your cash in the bank. Low inflation and strong peso win win.

@@crisremr6894 Hi , for many they work online, for home countries Canada uk usa. For me its different , savings here is great 12% tax free. and i bought some btc years ago.

Mexico requires a visa of visitors from the US.

With a Mexican passport you can visit Japan and stay there for 180 days, whereas most countries in the world that have visa-free travel to Japan (including the US and the EU countries) only get 90 days. That's because of the special friendly relation that Mexico and Japan have.

I’ve been seeing videos of Japanese people appreciating the Mexican culture from mariachi dias de Los muertos Mexican food even Japanese dressing as cholos one of them has a Mexican flag tattooed that’s badass

I’m a Mexican and I’ve traveled to 25 countries (mostly Europe). The only country where I felt discriminated for having a Mexican passport was Australia. All the other countries I felt welcomed.

Australia is a satellite of the US and it’s most conservative news outlets. Same for Israel. They have to drag themselves on the floor to obtain their favor and protection, otherwise they would be easily attacked or just become irrelevant (and they are at some point).

Moved to Uruguay... what's odd is that I chose Uruguay before I even heard of Nomad. Careful, it is actually MORE expensive here than in the USA. I'm fine with it though, since I speak the language fluently.

Mexicans can stay up to 6 months without visa in countries like the UAE and Japan. Mexico is so underrated for real

Couldn't agree with you more .... I live here in the US and crime is on the rise. I have traveled to Mexico and feel safer than in the US. The filth in the streets and the homeless in the US is astonishing . And the mass shooting every other month. Its no longer the American Dream ..its now the Mexican Dream. I will retire next year and look forward moving to Mexico no doubt.

I was watching the movie the forever purge and they discussed that issue. The rising gun violence and crime. Some Mexican immigrated illegally to the US in that movie and in the end of the movie they wind up crossing back across the border because the US was so unstable.

Once el itsmo opens el peso will be 12 pesos per dollar meaning that Mexici will become more expensive to travel and those going to Mexico will go because they love the country. Not because it's cheap. El peso is the seconds strongest coin in the world ATM.

Have traveled all over the world and the only country that I felt discriminate it or profiled was Israel. As a matter of fact, I think most Latinos do. Been there twice and both times got stop and searched from head to toe (we all can guess why Latinos get profiled like this) but all the other countries are very curious about Mexico and super welcoming and have had less trouble traveling with my Mexican passport than US. Even when I got robbed in Paris the American emergency passport only allowed me to go back to the US while the Mexican emergency passport still allowed me to continue my travels.

As an Argentinean living in the USA for more than 20 years, I thank you for bringing a fresh perspective to my native country. I thought the grass was greener here (USA), and it's not so much anymore....I've also always been frustrated by the constant worsening social and economic problems in Argentina (basically never getting better) and swore to never come back but perspectives like yours are changing my mind if I were to consider myself a "foreigner" going back and seeing it as a cheap alternative to live or invest. Although, please be careful and mindful of your safety while traveling there, unfortunately, crime is on the rise and never seems to get better.

Everyone's welcomed in Mexico, just I think there are some things that can help to be a successful migrant, become part of the society, learn the language even If everybody understands you, get Mexican friends and don't go with ghetto mindset, be open to the differences in the culture and how things are done. I think this would be in benefit of the country that receives you and in your own. ✌️ Saludos!

More than 15,000 foreigners live in Baja California Sur, Mexico, 75% from the USA and the rest from other parts of the world, a very high number if we see that it is one of the states of the republic with the fewest inhabitants, my wife is a foreigner and The decision to live here was made by her, she preferred to live here than in her country, the reason is, the freedom and tranquility with which one lives, she is Japanese, my father-in-law also emigrated to Mexico and my sister-in-law and her husband are thinking Also come to live here, I have some friends from Canada and the USA who live here, some even sold their houses to stay here permanently. I don't know which country is safer, Mexico or the USA, I only know that human beings are the same anywhere in the world, we were just born in different places.

Private health care is much better than the corrupt systems in the USA. That is why Mexico has so much medical tourism. I broke both femur bones and was able to get lots of metal put in my legs quite reasonably.

Moving from Switzerland to Mexico (Sayulita) next week after having had residency for 5 years and going back and forth working remotely. Looking forward to get citizenship in another 2 years living full-time in Mexico (fluent in Spanish, working on the cultural and historical knowledge). Got my house with a big 'food forest' jungle garden and planning to work freelance or start some business, possibly investing my pension.

you will only deal with cartels if youre in a cartel or have the bad luck to be in a shooting, that in the majority of the country its very rare, ive been living here for 28 plus years and not even a single time I've been in danger or have close contact with cartels, and i travel a lot inside Mexico, nor me ,my friends or family have the bad experience of being assaulted or something cartel related , i understand that some parts are more active in those matters but its like everywhere, you just dont go, and if you go by accident or for job related business, (like me), you will be fine if you're not in bad steps, cartel mfrs dont go randomly killing bystanders

And coming here to throw away Mexican families from their homes as landlords will double the rent for a foreigner ready to to pay that much. Making life more expensive here and not contributing to Mexico's economy in any way. At least Mexican illegals in US do a lot for US's economy.

Los extranjeros no pueden comprar propiedades, pero mayormente lo hacen los mexicanos dueños de propiedades viendo la alza de precios y deciden aumentar los precios, aparte que el gobierno de Clauda cancelo cientos de proyectos inmobilarios en el 2018, y en la pandemia para que la CDMX volviera a crecer empezo a dar permisos de construcción pero lamentablemente de proyectos inmobiliarios para clases altas, no han promovido la construcción de vivienda social.

No puedo evitar pensar que al leer los comentarios, los entiendo como si simplemente decidieran cambiarse del piso de arriba al de abajo. Pero la verdad es que la entrada de personas con un mayor poder adquisitivo trae consigo efectos negativos para la población mexicana, como el aumento de costos, el desplazamiento, la pérdida de la cultura, etc. En última instancia, esos son temas que los mexicanos hemos de exigir a las autoridades, y no un porblema que vayan a resolver los migrantes (de cualquier tipo y con cualquier apodo). Pero creo que es importante que se tenga en cuenta si has de venir a México. *México es un ente vivo, con características propias; no sólo un resort enorme.*

Estás cometiendo un error al decir que la cultura mexicana se va perder, eso NUNCA va pasar, el que tengamos más Extranjeros viviendo en nuestro país no va desplazar nuestras tradiciones ni nuestras raíces. Siempre han existido y seguirán vigentes, ellos se adaptarán a nuestras tradiciones y si no pues bien, es raro que los que Extranjeros que vivan aquí no les guste, conozco a varios europeos que incluso hasta pusieron su altar de muertos ahora, así que nada que temer con eso, incluso puede ser compartida.

Las ciudades más grandes de México y los mejores destinos de playa ya padecen de gentrificacion en este momento, no me quiero imaginar como se verá con más llegada de inmigrantes con mayor poder adquisitivo, antes venían de visita y se iban ahora ya quieren vivir aquí. 😢

¿Aplicas la misma regla referente al impacto que los mexicanos en abundancia en EEUU han producido allí sin que así lo desearan los ciudadanos de ese país? El impacto no ha sido insignificante. Toda la cultura estadounidense ha sido impactada, realmente transformada por la cantidad de mexicanos que han entrado y en su mayoría ni siquiera de manera documentada mediante los puertos a esa disposición. De modo que ¿para qué quejarse cuando es una cantidad prácticamente insignificante de estadounidenses y otros extranjeros la que está llegando a México? Eso de exigir, si se lograra en EEUU, conseguiría que decenas de millones de mexicanos que jamás debieron haber puesto pie en su país vecino merecieran ser expulsados y sus remesas eliminadas. Tenga mayor consciencia al hablar. México es un ente vivo y como toda criatura debe adaptarse a los cambios en su organismo, igual que su vecino ha tenido que hacer.

Estados unidos depende mas de esos mexicanos que nosotros de los estado unidenses que estan aqui y aunque si concuerdo con que igual deberiamos de ir aceptando el cambio el que haya pasado creo que los 2 paises deben de buscar formas de ayudarse con esto para tener buenos terminos entre esos compatriotas de ambos paises

With the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) Mexicans can travel without visa to Australia, Brunei, China, eTA for New Zealand, or eVisa for Thailand, Papua New Guinea and other countries. A Mexican citizen with such business card effectively allows to you to anywhere in the world except than the USA.

@@nocomment4848 I have Starlink and solar panels. I am near Patzcuaro. It is all oak and pine forest here. Mexico has many different climates and biosystems. It is never muggy where I live and never snows.

I’m an American living in Mexico and in terms of Canadians coming down, there are Tim Hortons and Boston’s Pizza locations popping up all over the place. Speaking of living standards, provided you’re in a metro area you’ll be quite comfortable. And crime? Some areas have high crime and others don’t-it’s a huge ass country

Besides freedom, most Expats move abroad for the lower costs. What I'm seeing here in Thailand is many Expats then buy or build homes & proceed to rent them out on AirBnB at exorbitant rates, plus open restaurants etc charging almost back home prices. As they/we become dominant in popular areas (Samui, Phuket, Canggu Bali etc) they/we end up driving up prices for the entire area, ironically eroding an essential factor which drew them/us in the first place.

I am Mexican and with the Mexican passport you can travel to 159 of 200 countries. I have a lot of freedom and I have traveled to Germany for my work. Austria Belgium Croatia Denmark Slovakia Slovenia Spain Estonia Finland France Greece Hungary Iceland Italy Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg malt Norway Netherlands Poland Portugal Czech Republic Slovak Republic United Kingdom Sweden Switzerland and I have to say that they receive me very well!

Let’s put it this way the USA is more dangerous than Mexico meaning Mexico is safer than the US as an American you shouldn’t worry about this in Mexico. The problem with Argentina is that they have decades of economic problems and can’t get out of that. If milei wins is going to be even worse! I wouldn’t recommend moving to Argentina. There are hundreds of thousands of Argentinians living in Mexico for a reason.

Nope, most of us are happy here. Just a small percentage moves to the US because of necessity, which is a completely different topic. About your brilliant idea... Do you think we Mexicans want to be treated badly in our own country? We always welcome people from other countries but prices of rent, food, etc, are going up because of gentrification. Also I've already seen people from the US treating coldly and bad Mexican workers in restaurants in Mexico city. Some of them want workers to speak English here, and some Mexicans will speak English to them because they want to be kind with foreigners. But the thing is we never ask a foreigner to speak Spanish in our country, on the contrary in the US if you speak Spanish you could get attacked. To be fair I’m more concerned about the thousands of migrants that cross our Mexican border. US migrants and South American Migrants have significant effects. On one hand the Americans contribute to gentrification on the other side South Americans contribute to delinquency and since a lot of them don’t have proper documentation they have to rely on jobs with no regulation that don’t report earnings to the state hence, they do not contribute to our economy.

My wife and I are US Citizens. Mine is by birth in the USA. I am of Asian Indian background. My wife is a naturalized US citizen, and also holds a Vietnam citizenship. She was born in Vietnam. Both of us love Mexico. We think many places are nice. We particularly like Puebla, Aguas Calientes, CDMX, Merida, Cancun, Oaxaca, Baja, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Queretaro, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Tlaxcala, Toluca, and places like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato. Yeah, practically everywhere. We avoid the so-called danger zones of Mexico. We both are considering our options, and want to move to Puebla. Yes, we are looking at a place just outside Puebla city. When we told our parents about our thoughts, we got mixed comments. My father called us nuts. My mother said okay, but check it out first. My wife's parents told us we were nuts (Why do you want to leave the USA? The USA is so nice!). I have started carefully advising some of my relatives in India & Vietnam (who want to come to the USA as immigrants) to consider some place like Monterrey or CDMX...even Guadalajara. Some have taken the advice and are reviewing. Others remain blinded by the USA, Canada, etc. One of my friends in India is open to Latin America, but his family (kids and wife) says, "USA or bust!"....despite repeatedly being denied visas for USA. My wife and I have been paying close attention, and see the value of the peso appreciate. Same as far as the stature of the people who are Mexico's leaders and politicians. Who after AMLO? To me, both potential candidates are appropriate. I am still a US citizen. If I were a Mexican citizen, maybe living in Puebla, I would vote accordingly. There are at least two people that are vying to succeed AMLO. Will see who wins the election. The two that I am following are both women. BTW, when I do get to Mexico like this, I have every desire to acquire the Mexican citizenship. TBD. Stay tuned.

Some people just cant get the idea of the USA out of their heads. I for one was tired of American style suburbs, cookie cutter houses and having to drive to get almost anywhere because everything is spread out. I also did not like being a minority in school and where I am originally from so I moved to deep South Texas on the border. I am a lot happier here.

I travel to Baja California for work and would consider living there. There's nice areas and bad just like anywhere. As for crime I honestly feel safer walking around TJ vs walking around Chicago, Detroit, LA, St Louis, Oakland etc. most the people the people I meet are friendly.

I've been a Mexican resident for 8 years, the first four as temporary resident and the last four as permanent resident. I considered becoming naturalized but my understanding is that Mexico doesn't recognize dual nationality and I'd have to renounce my US citizenship. I love my life here, and I rarely travel to the US, but I'd hate to have to apply for a B1-2 visa for myself!

The Mexican government makes a distinction between nationality and citizenship. If you are not living in your country of origin Mexico did not consider you a citizen of that country. The only way to renounce US citizenship is to go to a US consular office. As much as Mexicans love paperwork they do not require a document from the consulate proving you have renounced US citizenship. Many of us have dual and triple citizenship.

Just make sure you get your Mexican citizenship last. They don't want you taking other dual citizenships after theirs. Results in automatic loss of Mexican citizenship for naturalised citizens if you read the letter of the law.

However, most of the cases are when tourists go to specific places at night even when told to avoid said places. It's sad that citizenship and national identity has been devolved so much that just anyone can be a citizen of anywhere depending on what they have in their wallet. Then when things get too hard they just pack up and leave to move somewhere else. To some, gaining Mexican citizenship is just a simple matter of where you live and what it says on a piece of paper but to others it is our whole identity and something that we carry in our very souls and in our blood. The modern world is a convenient place full of blank cutouts that are interchangeable. 😒

Not necessarily sone countries don’t care about how much money you have or make if u don’t spend a required certain amount of time within the country, in certain terms if u aren’t present for a long duration of time within there jurisdiction,then even if u are a billionaire you can forget about gaining citizenship.For most of Asian countries citizenship isn’t really an option at all only residency they don’t allow anyone else to become a citizen in Asia outside of there own citizens.This is why I love Asia the most because it always puts its own citizens first and everyone else is a secondary.

I spend a lot of time in Mexico and I had always planned to retire there but when it came time to retire I was worried abour the drug cartels. So I retired to Panama and I ended up getting Panamanian citizenship. I can easily go to Mexico on my Panamanian passport or my American Passport. After living in Panama for 23 years with a wife that can't speak English I am completely fluent in Spanish which is a hugh advantage no matter where I go in Latin America.

If you have a grandparent born on the island of Ireland (either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland) you have an automatic right to Irish citizenship. This will then give you the right to live and work in the rest of the 27 EU countries. This means you could go and live and work in Madrid (Spain), Berlin (Germany) or Prague (Czechia) with exactly the same rights as a citizen of those countries. My grandmother was born in Dublin and I am going through the process of this right now to become an Irish citizen. @@scoopiddy You need to send off proof in order to apply to put yourself on the Irish Foreign Births Register. It can be tricky to track down but it's doable. If your father was born in Ireland it is much easier as you only need to show a copy of his birth and death certificate. Assuming your father was born outside of Ireland but to parents that were born in Ireland (this is the same as my situation) I would start by researching your family tree using genealogy websites to search for your grandparents dates of birth and death their place of birth, you can then use this information to apply for a certified copy of their birth and death certificates from the relevant register office in Ireland (anybody can apply for a copy of these as they are public documents for a fee of around 14 euros). You then send off all the relevant copies of birth/death certificates etc (including a copy of your father's birth certificate from where he was born). I will link to the relevant Irish government website below which provides further guidance. I hope this helps.

My Dad was a US Citizen & a Canadian Subject, with both Passports. [His Mom was from Ontario] So, Canada until recently was a possible Retirement destination for me. I'm now looking at the Philippines [I have cousins there]. I can buy a Condo or lease Land for up to 50 years. However, I know MANY people whose parents came form Mexico & are getting their Mexican Nationality via parentage, so they can Inherit or Buy Property for Retirement. Two that I know of, already have small houses built a decade or more in advance of their Retirement date.

Do it, despite the naysayers you will experience each time you mention what you are thinking of doing or already doing it. This was my experience with every single American family member. Don't get disenfranchised, learn about Mexico so you can use it as a teaching moment. Trust me, they will come around and then you will be envied for your "courage" and envied because you have the guts to change your life for the better. Some may stop talking to you , like mine did, some may call you a traitor (lol, can't fix stupid), like mine did. But at the end of the day, they see me flourishing, free and happy. Do it!!!!

Been in the USA many many times I see how you are in decadence. Liberty ? Mmm Mexicans have more freedoms in our constitution, wealthy ? Mmm go to Switzerland or Germany to see what wealthy looks like (no poverty no crime), democratic ? Well a country where somebody where somebody can win without winning the most votes is not something I would call democracy (everywhere else the person with the most votes wins), obsessed with race. Want to get back on top? Ok get rid from your un democratic electoral college and let the people decide, give the people the rights every other country gives (including my own, Mexico): right to healthcare, food, water, education, yes we have right of speech, as long as you don’t offend anyone (your right of speech doesn’t give you the right to say “lgbt people is going to hell”, publicly), follow the democratic fundamental principle which mandate then government and the churches are separate and churches have nothing to do with public affairs… then you will have 21st century rights. Walk into a color blind, religious blind, sexual orientation blind society like everyone else and your country will start to flourish again.

I have residency in Mexico and plan to apply for citizenship; still, I worry about next year's election and the further encroachment and influence of the Chinese communist party here in the future as it secretly has in the US. Hurricane Otis that hit Acapulco was very much like the one that took place in Lahaina, Maui: a very odd and fast moving confluence of climate conditions that destroyed the beach front areas for the eventual benefit of the globalists. Sadly, Pres AMLO remained silent on the topic of lives and property lost. Mexicans are highly unaware of any of this taking place. With strange natural events happening daily, one has to remain vigilant. Still, I love Mexico!

Just gave like number 1,000. Nice video Andrew. Couldn’t agree more with the main points. Visiting Bolivia is a great example where you’re much better off with a Mexican or Argentinian passport. The US govt messed with Bolivia way too much regarding their coca leaf production. They haven’t forgotten that and tend to punish US tourists accordingly with higher entrance fees and requirements.

@@ZzXZ636 Before you begin the process you need to make sure that you are eligible. You need to check your parents and your grandparents to find out if your linage is still open. For example in my situation my father was born in Italy but naturalized before I was born so I cannot go through him on the other hand my mother was born in America before my grandfather naturalized so I'm going through my mother and my grandfather. There is a map available to guide you through that. Once you've established that you're eligible you need to begin collecting all your documents forush it to the kid's death certificates marriage certificathen you have to have them all apostled and then translated. It costs quite a bit of money and takes a bit of time

I don't know man. I went to Mexico on vacation and I got stopped three times. Last time was definitely beyond threatening. Got very lucky and this was close to Mexico City. Maybe OK if you are single. Not with a family or with kids. Bless everybody.

Question. My boss is from Mexico originally and his parents still live there. He often talks about how they would like to invest outside of Mexico but that getting any money out legally is extremely difficult. Do you not find this to be the case?

As a Canadian, I would not want to give up my future $ 2000 dollar a month govt pension and $70 dollar a month health insurance. With my savings and over priced Canadian home it would make sense to cash out and live in Mexico or Argentina at age 60 and I probably will. I could easily earn 10k a month in passive income while chilling on the beach and tanning my ass.

The solution is that the companies that employ these digital nomads pay them salaries comparable to the countries where they live and pay taxes there, that is fair!! Pay the same as what they pay employees in Mexico and pay the same rental prices!!

Not a Mexican, and I am from Canada. I can totally understand why the Mexicans are angry about foreigners moving and driving up the cost of living. They (especially nomads), literally have US based work from home jobs, and get paid US wages, then convert it to pesos. That should not be legal at all! If you move to another country, you pay their taxes, get a job based in that country, and earn wages in that country. In the case of Mexico, take the time to learn Spanish, and learn and respect their culture. It’s not your country, it’s theirs! Stop the gentrification. Keep Mexico Mexican.

Merida is located 30 minutes from the beach and there are lots of cenotes around to swim in freezing water, but mostly you try to stay inside with the AC at max hahaha, Merida is beautiful but definitely one of the hottest places, if you want a similar city you go to Queretaro where its cold and sunny all year round

@@mayi757 Look Mexico has some states that are "dangerous" but those are the ones that are closer to the US like Tijuana etc, when it comes to cities in the south part of Mexico all of them are safe, specially Merida, in Merida the people protects the city like no other and the government is one of the best of Mexico, theres no crimes rates and you can live a pretty comfortable life without any problems, Mexico is becoming a hub for many Americans and Canadians so you'll find lots of the same business than in the US, specially in the big cities like Mexico City, Queretaro, Monterrey, Guadalajara. But yes in Merida is safe everywhere and the people are extremely warm and welcoming to foreigners, if you can take a trip to Cancun and then drive 4 hours to Merida you will have the best time and also get to know how beautiful it is and how safe it is!!

I will speak truthfully I am chicano born and raised in the US, I have dual citizenship, to be honest Ive been discriminated against here in Mexico... maybe cause I look "Mexican" but I sound "Gringo" my spanish isnt 100% but I work with english and spanish speakers here... I am pretty sure wouldnt have this job if I couldnt speak both... But I felt discrimnated more from Mexicans here in Mexico.. I see people here on the streets say hello to "gringos" But when I pass I get looks like Im about to rob them... It can get annoying really... I never ever felt that in the US... People would think im from Italy lol... I go to the supermarket here and when I go to a tourist market they mostly say hi and treat the "gringos" Better than me actually being from the US being treated like if I am from the streets of Mexico... They can only tell I am not from Mexico soon as I start speaking.. it happens all the time their face expressions change knowing I am not from Mexico... I have a American Accent in spanish... People I work with here know me and never discriminate, its just mostly people from walking the streets or supermarkets or stores where I get seen as a "Guy living on the streets" "just another Mexican" I also dress tech wear I dont dress the style "Chacas" or other mexican styles they have here... But yes this is my experince as a "Male" Chicano living in Mexico... I know 100% if your a women "Chicano" Your def going to be treated better just for being a women... looking like your not from Mexico or looking "gringo" Will be treated better than I am treated here in Mexico... So if your a chicano male from the US I would say go to another country... once I am done here I am moving out... not the US.. but def going to a different country... ah yes I also get called "gabacho" or "gringo" by people from los estados de mexico.

The Mexicans I know travel to a lot more around the world than I do and come home. The folks you see at the border are not all Mexicans, it is simply used as a transition country for many.

If you have money in the US or Canada, you can move to any country in Latin America and live like a Queen/King. You can buy a place in cash or rent for low cost, and you will not depend on a job in those places. It is a challenge once you begin to look for a job and depend on that salary in Mexico or another Latin country. Salaries are not that good, and jobs are hard to come by. It is a different perspective from a Mexican where everything is more expensive and salaries are low. Hence, significant immigration to other countries. The number of foreigners buying real estate in Mexico cities is also raising the value of properties and making it harder for the regular Mexican citizen to acquire a home.

I've travelled all over the world and have never had an issue attributable to being American. By and large, respect begets respect. Even if I had, however, my citizenship means more to me than convenience and I would never renounce or hide it. I won't bad mouth any of the countries you've mentioned, and I've visited most, but I love America and always will. We have our faults for sure and, as a black man, I could list them for you but, without detracting from other nations, I still believe the USA remains the greatest country this world has ever known.

Same. Been to Mexico plenty of time and although I would consider it cheap and convenient fun ... being a permanent residence and citizen has me raising an eyebrow. Mexico could be doing well now but that is due to the position the US has put it in. At the end of the day USA is more stable and has the real power in this world. If you want to live cheaply in the US with a lot of freedom it can be done -- it's called the Midwest.

Might be helpful to address perceived language barriers between English and non English-speaking countries as well as safety issues with cartels, corrupt police, etc. Non-Spanish speakers in the US seem to be fearful of security issues, which prevents them from traveling to non English speaking countries.

What prevents them is by not educating themselves and listening to the news or others who only watch news and not experience for themselves. For sure, it's important to do your best to learn Spanish, but depending on which state you choose, you won't need it to survive. Most people speak as much English as you would speak Spanish. The biggest challenge is getting people to speak Spanish with me, they want to practice their English. So, I always make a deal with them. We teach each other! Also, keep in mind 70% if language is non-verbal. Facial expressions, smiles or frowns, hand motions and contextual situations, make it easier. However, the challenge by not speaking Spanish is when it comes to business matters, banking, real estate for example. And beaurocracy...have you been to the DMV in the USA? Think that... LoL In those cases I hire a facilitator. In summary, you not need to speak the language, however it can be useful. I did forget to mention it's difficult to form deep relationships if the other person does not speak english. And if you don't speak Spanish. But if you speak a little and they speak a little. You won't have a problem. Good luck!

As far as police, well hello... But I do understand that the police for my reading and anecdotal evidence from my friends. That yes. But I would definitely love to be able to pay a police officer near a thousand pesos rather than have to deal with going down to DMV or court or whatever and pay a ridiculous ticket for doing nothing. They're definitely are some benefits, but I also believe that is a problem.

Get to Puerto Vallarta first for holidays.. you will find a lot of Canadians and US citizens.. once you get somehow used to the ways there.. get to CDMX (Mexicos Capital City). Attend the embassy and get as much data as possible.
