What an amazing story. When a regular person retires he/she wants to play golf, enjoy life, rest, etc. but not Karen. She decided to work more than even before and help people in need. She restores my faith in humanity.

I'm not sure how we can thank you enough for sharing our story! It's been a year of ups and downs, pain and joy - but we have found that love wins always!!! This made me cry. You hear all the time about expats moving to Mexico and taking advantage of or being rude to the people there. To see expats doing something like this for the people just warms my heart no end. I want to move to Mexico so badly, but now that there is such bad inflation, I can't meet the financial requirements for a temporary residency visa. I wish there was a way, because if I don't get out of here, I'll end up living in a van like so many older people in the US. Bless you for all you do.

I’m so choked up and moved by this story, all I can say right now is wow. Just wow. This lady is so amazing. She not only is helping children but even dogs too! Why are you moved?? Don't You See what latinos and blacks DO?? They Continue to CREATE their own problems for Centuries; So the WHITE PEOPLE have to Go and SOLVE their problems and take Care of their PEOPLE; because just look at what they DO to themselves; they Destroy themselves; and then the WHITE MEN have to GO SAVE THEM. But, Latinos and Black Communities Around the World is always talking CRAP about the White Man, Only to have their hands Out Opened for the White Man to GIVE THEM. They are like PARASITES. This is the Problem that I have with LATINOS; I am a LATINA MYSELF, Why they don't take Care of their own people; trust me; as a Latina myself; these people will Not Help their own people; even When They Can HELP. And, also these people that HATE the WHITE PEOPLE SO MUCH, are always Creating their Problems; So the GRINGOS Go Solve their problems ALWAYS; So do the black communities around the WORLD. What Latino helps Another Latino; just look at everything Evil thing they Do to themselves in the USA, CANADA, EUROPE.

Karen this is a dream of mine. Born in the United States in poverty and in a chaotic home having certain people in my life like teachers that just gave me a hug made such a impact in my young life. I'm Mexican American and for the last 10 years I have wanted to move to Mexico to start an orphanage or something similar. What you have started in Bucerias is amazing and inspiring. I'm not in the position to make it happen as of right now but hopefully soon I will be on my way to Mexico to make it a reality.

Flipped over to this video expecting yet another post about surviving in Mexico as a resident, about restaurants, beaches, food. Then I was drawn in by Karen's story that as her story developed the picture became in focus what a joyful wonderful life lived with purpose, being a ministry where you are planted and as you were obedient to God's leading and your heart things divinely fell into place! Paul This was the best show you’ve ever made. I was very touched and inspired by Karen’s story and of the work that Refuge of Hope is doing for the people in Bucerias! To see the smiles on the faces of those children and the love and affection they were showing her I know she was doing great work and making a permanent impact on the lives of those children and their families! It would be great to have a website that itemized volunteer options with resettled Canadians, or Mexican organizations where retirees could join and offer suppor in their areas of expertise.

Wow, I'm so thankful to God this popped up on my YT page-and I didn't even know it was about Bucerias! I was blessed enough to spend about a week there 20 years ago-it was wonderful! I hope it hasn't changed much. Praise God for working through this kindhearted woman to help children and their families. God bless you!

I have been living on & off in Mexico since the 80’s. This is what it is all about. Hats off, Karen & crew from AZ I taught children in Cozumel in my free time, to swim & pick up trash on the beaches. This is why and where I want to be. There are some great people looking after Seniors here and even building a group home! We took the Refuge children to give hampers to the Seniors at Christmas - it was very beautiful to watch them share with the abuelos!

What a moving story of these very brave and courageous people. They saw a need, and instead of walking away they gave it their all. Very inspiring! Thank you so much for producing this heart felt story. My husband and I were fortunate enough to visit The Refuge of Hope. The children are so well cared for, it was truly a blessing to see and a very worthy cause to support.

My wife and I just watched your video and loved it . We live in Regina and we are coming to PV\Bucerias in march . it is great to see your story . I am 52 and my wife is 48 and we plan on retiring in 2 years . WOW… what an amazing achievement! Yes, all of this because of LOVE! Thank you Karen and all the volunteers for giving of your best self. My husband and I currently live in Mexico and we will be traveling through the different parts of Mexico in a few months. I will do some homework on Bucerias to see if it is workable within our travels so we can volunteer at Refuge of Hope while we are there. Thank you for sharing this beautiful work in progress and how one person can bring change, quality of life and love to those who are in desperate need. ❤😊

Epic, result, As a Child having lived in Hamilton Ont., Canada I found myself in foster homes from the age of 11 to 16 with the Catholic aid society. Education is everything... I fully understand the good you're doing from personal experience. Today I live in Sydney, Australia, I'm planning to conduct clinical trials in Mexico for HIV/Aids as I have found a small drug discovery startup biotech company. If all goes well, I may end up moving to Mexico for a few years to complete the drug clinical development. This is my story, It can happen if people like Karen help children grow on their way, as I had the same help in Foster homes, as a child growing up in Canada. Keep up the good work, Karen and your team.

Nayarit has finally been discovered I remember as I kid going out there I would tell myself how lucky I was to be in such a natural beauty of a state. I say discovered Nayarit simply because puerto Vallarta jalisco and Mazatlan Sinaloa have always over shadowed Nayarit. Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience
