Hi there! Welcome to my first video on KZfaq. It has officially been 1 whole year since I moved to Mexico and thought, geez, I should start sharing my life here because I think it's really cool! Also don't mind how sick I sound, its been almost 3 weeks of not feeling super well.
Stay tuned for more videos, your feedback and support is really important to me. Also follow me on instagram and tiktok!

We moved to Mexico in 2021. Sold everything we had, including our cars, packed 5 suitcases, and left the US. My wife is Mexican, and I'm from Reno, Nevada. The people, the culture, the history, the acceptance, the high quality of life, and the easily affordable cost of living are all good reasons for moving. We live in Morelia, Michoacan. We live VERY well on my monthly Social Security, with plenty left over to save. We rent a beautiful house, 3 bdrm/3 ba, 4000 sq ft, for $400 (USD). Utility bills, power, water, sewer, internet, are all one third or less, of that in the states. Good luck in your new life! Mexico is an incredible place to be. The lack of stress alone, is worth the price of admission. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

I just moved a few weeks ago. ditto working on the language , trying to buy a car.. I moved here near rock climbing and Mexican friends . I knew this and tried to prepare but definitely not a great place for those who care deeply about the treatment of animals especially where i am. I see most expats aren’t too concerned either. Most states bullfighting is still legal. Animal neglect and abuse is a way of life.

OMG! I can't believe you just packed up and moved! How awesome is that! This is a dream of mine! I am mostly concerned about safety and I have not decided where I'd like to settle. I've been to many different Central American cities in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Belize. It is my favorite place to travel and did I mention it has ALWAYS been a dream of mine? I already work remote as a software developer in the U.S. and am sure I could travel without missing a beat with my employment. The only reason I have not done it already is I have three children, one on collage and two still in high school but I am kinda looking to the day when I have that empty nest and could make a dramatic change like this.

Erika, if you understand everything in small gatherings and hold entire conversations, then you’re doing great! To be able to understand fast language plus loud background noise and the local slang requires years of exposing yourself to that ambient constantly. Give yourself some time and be kind to yourself. Time will come when you’ll feel like a native. Train yourself to THINK in Spanish. I can relate cause when I moved from Cuba to the States I already spoke English but faced the same challenges. Now it’s all good. If I did it you can do it. Go girl!

You're right in saying "it's not as it was some years ago." In fact, since Covid, the cartels have become FAR worse. Americans are fed such BS about Mexico being so much nicer, safe and better , etc that it's a shame this is being perpetuated on social media when its' the exact opposite. I have lived in Zacatecas and to make a long story short, it's now the worst area of Mexico (the entire country is at an all time dangerous spike because of cartel activity) to live in or move in. It was safer before Covid and that's saying a lot. Mexico has NEVER been considered a "safe" place to live in. Our media just loves to glorify it because it's cheaper to live there and the culture and people are warm. Don't fool yourselves please. I have seen it for my own eyes and lived it. Mexico is not safe whatsoever.@@miguel-dh4jc

SLC has really grown in the last 10 years. It's a much busier city now. I can't believe how different it felt in 2021...even during the pandemic...compared to 2013, when I was there for 3 months. I moved there from San Francisco (lived in Los Angeles before SF, and Manhattan before LA...so each city was smaller than the last). After 3 months, I was back in LA for summer school. It will definitely be much busier, and larger, than SLC. The population of GDL is 5.5M, so about 4M more people than SLC. It's far less overwhelming than Mexico City, which is more like Athens, if you've been there, or Manhattan. If you can handle one of the big cities of the US, you should be ok in Guadalajara. You have to keep in mind, she's a young, attractive female. It's different for a male than for a gorgeous, blonde-haired, light-eyed young female. Everywhere a beautiful young woman with a slim body and long blond hair goes, some males will just pursue them like crazy. This is as true in London and Paris, as it is in Mexico (and blonds are rare in Mexico, especially with light eyes)...but it's a very patriarchal culture in Mexico, so females have very little power, and even the young Mexican women who are attractive have to worry about getting raped or kidnapped by the cartel and held for ransom. It just happened in Queretaro last week. She was found alive, thankfully, but probably severely psychologically traumatized (PTSD)...if not worse. Females have to watch out for sexual predators everywhere we go because they hunt us like prey, especially females in their teens and twenties. That's just a sad reality of being female, especially a young female (just like child predators hunt children all over the globe). Adult men rarely have this problem, although males do get raped and if they have money in Mexico males also get kidnapped and held hostage until a ransom is paid. Merida is extremely hot and very humid, especially in the summer. Just be prepared for sweltering weather. Most of the murder and violent crime in SLC is committed by someone the victim knows (and I know this because I've read the stories from 2014 to recently). Very few remain unsolved because most victims are related to the perpetrator either by family, romantic attachment, divorce, work, or "friendship", althoughs someone who murders you was never your friend. You have to pay attention in ANY big city, especially when you do NOT speak the language. If you speak Spanish, you'll do better than if you don't. Good luck! Safe travels~

I was looking at moving to the Veracruz area but after doing research I decided against that area because of the danger from cartels and highway carjackings/highjackings, then I looked at Queretaro as it's one of the safest cities in Mexico, but recently there has been issues with Cartels in Queretaro also. Because of that and the dangers of traveling at night, we sadly decided against moving to Mexico, we are now looking at Spain, yes it's a little more expensive, but it's safe to live and travel. With that being said, good luck to you.

It’s dangerous wherever you go so just set yourself with that in mind. Cartels exist and they are in every city and town. Just don’t look for trouble, it’s not dangerous all the time everywhere

Why so many haters talking about her decisions and from others as well? Let the gringos and Europeans live in Mexico. As long as they respect the country and blend with the Mexican culture everything is ok.

I married and never shacked, and had one daughter at age 37. I paid to have my apartment emptied 2 months before I left for Queretaro in 2021 at 79 . Heavily blocked your doors etc, and always have 2 or more weapons on you and around your apartment, YOUR choice. I did not have to sell my stuff, for I did not need the money, and it is deadly. I learned to speak Spanish at age 14 and I was 20, when i first visited Mexico, mainly Acapulco.

It seems you live in my home town Orizaba Veracruz . I had been in town almost 3 months it’s lovely. Like you said beautiful green mountains year around. An hour and a half away from the beach. Delicious seafood, so much to mention . You need Approximately $1500 to $2000 dlrs. Per month to live a nice decent life. I love your content.
