Lots of good footage and photos coming from the USS Milwaukee, making us proud that the ship bears the name of our city.

Oh cool, I worked in HSC-28 which was right next door to HSC-22. These things are tiny and surprisingly quiet!

I'd love to see inside that front panel, but the Navy made pretty damn sure nobody can have a peek ;D we only get to see cable connectors..

This would be excellent to break the front line of the enemy. Small, fast, packing a big heat.

28v 400amp. Is that standard for military aircraft ground supply power or does it use an external power supply for startup?

Would be a useful tool for humanitarian efforts during civil unrest,riots,looting after natural disasters etc... You know... Delivering water, dropping supplies from those hardpoints, finding stranded innocent victims with it's exotic sensors and laser designation abilities.

Does anyone know why it is marked "Bogota, Colombia"?
@sandiego92155
@sandiego92155 3 жыл бұрын
Aircraft Mechanics (junior Sailors) can have their name on the aircraft; it's a sense of pride. That Sailor is from Colombia. He is probably an American citizen of Colombian descent considering you probably need a security clearance to work on this aircraft.

I can see a problem in the future when autonomous fighters are about 5-10 years away. At that point, would anyone want to go through the rigors of flight training, knowing their jobs will disappear partway through their military career?
@charpsteve36
@charpsteve36 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if and when that happens the transition will be glacial. We won't stop developing new fighters until autonomous aircraft have proven themselves in combat and given the current development timeframe (over 20 years for the f-35 and longer for future fighters if the trend of increasing r&d time continues). Even then, modern platforms are expected to last for decades before being phased out (almost 4 decades and counting for the hornet and roughly 30 years for the Tomcat). The f-35 should last to at least 2050 if not far beyond, 2086 if using the b-52 as a template and its absolutely impossible to predict almost anything about society that far ahead, let alone training, etc. Finally, the typical flying career for a fighter pilot is only two tours (roughly four years) before higher command finds them flying a desk. TLDR A sea change in the military takes decades. Fighter pilots jobs already disappear partway through their career because they are too valuable to keep in the cockpit. Four years of flying the best aircraft in the world is worth two years of rigorous training.

@Dragomir Ronilac fairly solid basis, somewhat subjective, its personally worth it for me to continue military training even though my job may disappear in 20-100 years.

I can try and add more of that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_Grumman_MQ-8_Fire_Scout The Northrop Grumman MQ-8 Fire Scout is an unmanned autonomous helicopter developed by Northrop Grumman for use by the United States Armed Forces. The Fire Scout is designed to provide reconnaissance, situational awareness, aerial fire support and precision targeting support for ground, air and sea forces. The initial RQ-8A version was based on the Schweizer 330, while the enhanced MQ-8B was derived from the Schweizer 333. The larger MQ-8C Fire Scout variant is based on the Bell 407.As of February 2018, 23 MQ-8B variants were in service with the U.S. Navy.

We must not rely too much on killer robots, it would be dispoyalty and dishonor. Because robots don't have a soul, a heart and they don't know loyalty and honor. Winning wars requires human soldiers who have hearts, souls, and who know loyalty and honor!
