Thank you, I unfortunately lost one quail due to the fireworks. Fortunately due to corona our government banned all fireworks this year so it was a lot less than previous years. Regarding the quails. This can be due to stress or the cage is to little. How big is your cage? There are a few options: getting an extra female so he is not fixed on one. But you need a decent size cage for that. There is also feather spray available with a nasty taste, this prevents feather picking. But I'm not a fan of this because most likely you just have a aggressive male. Nowadays this is becoming more of a problem. The best way to stop this if we all stop breeding with these individuals but unfortunately for some it's all about the money not the animals. So if I were you check if it could be stress, is their cage good enough maybe try putting an extra female in and if this doesn't work. Remove it and definitely don't breed with him. Hope this helps

@@MrAviary Thank you for replying. He does have two females, and the cage is 1.6 meters long. It should be enough space for a trio of buttons. I wouldn't really call it an aviary, but some people do, and they are living with a trio of diamond doves and a pair of long tailed finches and some gouldian finches. They are all getting along fairly well, except that the two red headed gouldians are a bit more aggressive than the others but there isn't fighting, just the occasional chase away. The quails have never shown any interest in the finches, and will eat together with them. I was afraid that the male quail was aggressive, but he only rarely has a look at the two females and randomly nips at a feather. He doesn't chase or anything. They preen each other and seem to get along very well, besides for the feather picking. I'm not really in the hobby to make money, but I would like to get a few babies down the road so that I will still have some quails in the future. Unfortunately, king quail are very hard to come by here. Took me a year to acquire my trio. I read that sometimes isolating the male for a while can snap him out of the feather picking habit, and at this point, I guess I will need to do that regardless so that the girls can regrow their feathers. I might have to look into the spray as a possible tool to help kicking the habit. I also saw debeaking as an alternative, but that's a big no for me personally. Next month they will get a lot more space as my custom built aviary arrives, so maybe more running space with more things to interact with will help keeping them occupied :) It will be a 2mx2mx1.2m walk in aviary. It's gonna take up most of my living room, haha :P
