Hank Hill would absolutely call out Mr. Birchum. To his face. "Having your own kids help you build your own deck is _one thing._ Having other people's children build your deck _for you_ is an entirely _different_ thing, and it's something a colossal jackass would do! Don't you see what you're doing? You're not making wood shop better, you're making home improvement _worse!"_

Yeah and that's if he joined at the tail end of the conflict and was 18. This means he wouldn't be old enough to be considered a vet at the time. It also doesn't help that the way he talks about the war makes it sound like he was a pencil pusher. Most people who served in the field if I recalled were high school drop outs who were forced to go. If you had a collage degree you were most likely an officer and stayed away from the front at least in the beginning of the conflict. I'm more shocked that Birchum didn't come out depressed and angry like a lot of people who were forced to serve.
@shinysoda6

They literally could have still said that he was a vet but still had to add the Vietnam bit just to make him sound cool with no regard to the actual history is...incredible. If anything you know anything about the Vietnam War it was one of the most "woke" moments in history because Americans were HIGHLY against it the more they learned about upon hearing how inhumane it was to which hippie culture grew really popular as a result. They could have just said his dad was a vet or his great uncle but they had to make him special somehow with no regard of the timeline.

Funny how the “woke” teacher is the villain for not wanting to drink alcohol and complain about his life and worst of all, caring about children’s safety?!? At least the “woke” teacher seems like a happy, healthy dude unlike the other characters whose main traits are pent up anger and wanting everything their way. This show is really making me like this walking liberal stereotype.
@Nassifeh
@Nassifeh 7 күн бұрын
A good chunk of the serious conservative audience are evangelicals and Mormons who don't even approve of drinking alcohol! But Adam Carolla is, uh, well probably an alcoholic? (A quick search suggests even his own regular audience suspects this.) So of course he thinks that sobriety is a "woke" thing. Come to think of it, Roseanne Barr has also suggested she knows she has a drinking problem, before, when relating how John Goodman got sober and she didn't. In that light, this messaging is REALLY dark.

Fun fact, when birchum breaks the table saw, it’s because he is using it very wrong. The blade is installed backwards (teeth go into wood, his isn’t) He’s putting it in the wrong side (if blade was installed correctly it would push the wood up and forward, pulling him into the blade) The blade is way too high (the bottom of the topmost tooth should be ~1/8 of an inch above the wood, he has it several inches up) He does not know how to use a table saw

But if you play an actual documentary about sea horses, they get mad.

The ultimate goal of reactionaries is a homogenous society. All of their policies towards "undesirables" have the end goal of escalating towards erasure. Therefore, for a show to even acknowledge the existence of someone who is LGBT gives visibility, regardless of whether it is accurate or disparaging. In the effort to offend "liberals", the DW people are blinded by the true desires of their audience.

You're part of the reason a bill to lower the score for passing in public schools is under consideration. The man gave them an extracurricular opportunity to learn a real-life skill. He cared more about his students' future than he did about new rules that only hurt them in the long run. Those are the teachers that people remember decades after they've graduated. You know what's interesting to me about Hank Hill as a character? One of his most defining characteristics is his *fragility*. So many episodes are defined by the things he *can't* do, because he isn't comfortable with doing it, and then usually he comes around to realizing it was never that bad. He doesn't want to tend flowers because he thinks it's unmanly, and then he tries it and likes it. He doesn't want to dance with his dog because he thinks it's silly and then he tries it and finds it fun. He doesn't want to go down the women's hygiene aisle but he forces himself to do so for Connie's sake. For as mature as he is, he also displays a lot of insecurity, and that gives him depth. That gives him room to grow as a person. SJW works because it is a derogatory insult making fun of the open racists who support SJW policy. Even look at the people who founded the woke ideological nonesense such as Ibram X Kenedi and others of their ilk, they are all open racists. Woke and DIE are more great insults because they are still referring to the same horrible people. Notably all of these insults were originally names the people they describe invented themselves. Hell, the orgins of gamergate is corrupt journalists working together and doing immoral things such as sleeping for access and suchlike claiming the reason why they got "Harrassment" was because they were of X arbitrary group, not because they were evil. The same journalists later purposefully and knowingly made up a false sex scandal that caused Alec Holowka to kill himself. Gamergate stuff won't start becoming irrelevant when the same evil people support the same evil racist crap. Sometimes the evil people change their names and the current trend is DIE and the pedo flag, but the ideology is still the same intersectionality and often it is the very same people promoting it yet.

Also, what about miter cuts? Bevel cuts? Is it capable of accepting a dado stack? I'm one of those woke "radical left" types, and it seems like I have a lot more respect for carpentry than the creators of this wood centric shop teacher show. There's a ton to know about pretty much every carpentry tool if you actually take the trade seriously. It's a whole lot more involved than "turn on cut wood." Gonna make newbie mistakes like not accounting for the kerf of the blade when making a cut and ending up like 1/16 off on everything, which can just absolutely wreck a project. The inclusion of the tomboy daughter rubs me the wrong way. Sure, the dads in the audience of this show love the idea of a daughter that has boyish hobbies, but sooner or later, they expect them to "grow up" and conform to traditional gender roles. The adults in my life told me I'd have trouble getting a job if I didn't start wearing makeup as a teenager. Of course, I didn't like makeup since I was told my whole life that girly things were frivolous and not worth the time or money. But once you get to a certain age, they want you to stop being "cool" and start performing femininity. I just don't see Mr. Birchum accepting his daughter if she gets a masculine job like carpentry, especially if she never became a wife or mother. It's an inherent contradiction in conservatism. They want a "cool" daughter who will play sports and help Dad in the garage, but once she's old enough, she'd better start cooking and wearing makeup. It hurts everyone in the family. I know I'm rambling, but maybe this comment resonates with someone else. It's hard to go your whole childhood being taught that feminine hobbies are less than, only to be told, "Time for you to start learning those stupid, worthless hobbies," once your waist-to-hip ratio dips below 1.

I feel like that's how the character was going to evolve into if she went into puberty. God I swear I can smell they would do a "you can be masculine and still be a woman" trope around a ftm/ftn trans character then still bully them around for being masculine woman and not automatically a trad wife at 18. Or even at puberty if they're going to do weird "fertile", pedo, and legal age jokes. This show sucks. I can relate to what you're saying.

@@RoninRenbecause it’s performative. These aren’t natural interests of the women and girls involved but performative actions taken for the men in their lives. You are getting caught up on the action of the women. It’s not about the interests or hobbies themselves any interest or hobby can be the result of internalized misogyny and any interest or hobby can also be free of internalized misogyny. Misogyny is often contradicting, and most women experience it AS a contradiction. The women you are replying to is literally giving you an example of how she experienced misogyny IN a contradictory manor. But instead of being like “huh, that’s weird that women constantly complain about how things are contradictory for them” you are like nope it’s impossible and thus they must not know what they are talking about. Like yo every feminist rant is about how women are sick of being expected to be all things at once even contradictory things I mean, literally before any of this there’s the madonna horror complex of men wanting women to be sexual available to them at all times and yet the virgin pure that is straight up a contradiction. Misogyny is literally a contradiction all the time that is a huge fucking problem with it. There are a lot of other ones like treating women not like people, but yeah, misogyny expects women to be cool and into masculine things, but also not and be wholly feminine and not into anything masculine yes at the exact same time how is that possible? I don’t know no one ever figured it out. But women should and if they aren’t they are trash and should expect nothing. Your confusion at how feminine and masculine things can both be internalized. Misogyny is literally the point of misogyny.

The non-profit food market episode this video shows a clip of, Hank thought they were all a bunch of hippies but he still became a regular volunteer because he agreed with the premise of it, and ended up helping them, instead of spending every 5 minutes mocking them incorrectly like Mr Birchum would have. I think extreme conservatism is the antithesis of good art, because naturally as people trying to "conserve" they're going to have a difficult time coming up with something new rather than copying. The Daily Wire loves to point out unoriginality in Hollywood, and then proceed to make things as unoriginal as Hollywood could ever do. I'm a writer myself so I take great offense at The Daily Wire's attempts at art, (although I do appreciate Klavan, as some of his works are well written and although I disagree with him a lot, he has some good insights on art.)

@@mathieul4303 That is somewhat true, too much empathy CAN be a weakness. After all, you might end up trusting the wrong kind of people if you empathize too much with them. That’s why it’s always important to exercise caution when dealing with people. Likewise, having absolutely no empathy is also a weakness. It can lead to people building bad behavior, and treating/belittling others cruelly when there really is no reason to do so other than because they can, and they won’t hold themselves accountable for their own actions. That’s why these so called “modern conservatives” see empathy as a threat: because it can lead to people questioning and holding them accountable for their actions when they’re wrong, like any responsible adult would. Therefore, they attack and ridicule anyone who remotely feels any empathy. And that’s also why a lot of these comedies fall flat on their faces: the writers need to have a sense of empathy to make the jokes relatable, which they aren’t.

They sure did. No, not really, they are somewhat smart enough to realize that they need to throw their tokens in there to seem somewhat like human beings. The disguise isn't convincing in the slightest, though. You don't wanna know what this lot says behind closed doors about "the others."

We didn't even like those awards. Everyone who got one knew it was literally a "your team sucked so bad you could only get an award for showing up" prize. Kids got made fun of for having them because even then we knew it wasn't a real prize and my sister threw all of hers away. The only reason they gave them out was because our parents would riot in the Chuck E. Cheese if their child wasn't given an award just for existing, because their baby was better than everyone else's. The awards were literally so our entitled parents wouldn't scream at them, they weren't to make us feel better. (I mean, my parents weren't like that, but I knew A LOT of kids from my generation whose parents were like that, mostly because I was a cheerleader and my mom had to save me from being screamed at by other kid's moms all the time.)
