Mr. Bungle "The Night They Came Home" Virtual Live Concert Experience arrives June 11th! Pick up the Blu-Ray+CD, DVD+CD, VHS and digital at lnk.to/MBLive
"Mr. Bungle tried to play this song in the '90s and we scrapped it because we sucked at it,” explains Trey Spruance. “I think it worked this time for a lot of reasons. My own is that, thanks to the new Raging Wrath era, I've had to re-approach the guitar like I did when I was 13 and 14. It was all about Eddie Van Halen for me back then, so circling back at this moment felt really natural. Those riffs and lead parts at least are super fun! I'm just glad Scott took the palm-mute breaks. Jesus!"
Scott Ian adds, "I generally don’t get nervous about learning someone else’s riffs. When it’s an EVH riff it’s a whole different story! I was terrified! With 'Loss of Control' I did my best to just hold on and go for the ride. What a riff!!! As a fan I’d have to say it’s a PERFECT SONG for Mr. Bungle to cover. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did getting to play it."
“The Night They Came Home,” which was directed by Jack Bennett, finds the Northern California-born band performing songs from their recently released album, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo. The two-hour film is available on CD + Blu-Ray, CD + DVD, VHS, and digitally. The film portion features Bungle’s performance, Neil Hamburger’s opening set, three official music videos (“Raping Your Mind,” “Eracist,” and “Sudden Death”), as well as extended behind-the-scenes footage including several surprise cameos. The VHS release, limited to 1000 collectible copies, is an edited, performance-only portion of the film.
Mr. Bungle have also confirmed their first live outing of 2021, performing at Riot Fest (Chicago) in September. The festival marks the first time Mike Patton has performed on the same bill with both Mr. Bungle and Faith No More, and marks the band’s first tour date since the Fall album release.
“The Night They Came Home” track list:
1. Won’t You Be My Neighbor (Mr. Rogers cover)
2. Anarchy Up Your Anus
3. Raping Your Mind
4. Bungle Grind
5. Methematics
6. Hell Awaits/Summer Breeze (Slayer/Seals & Croft medley/cover)
7. Eracist
8. World Up My Ass (Circle Jerks cover)
9. Glutton For Punishment
10. Hypocrites/Habla Español O Muere (S.O.D. cover)
11. Spreading The Thighs of Death
12. Loss for Words (Corrosion of Conformity cover)
13. Sudden Death
14. Loss of Control (Van Halen cover)
News of The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo (lnk.to/MBWrath) arrival, the band’s first new music in over 20 years, was met with great fanfare. The album news followed a spate of sold out 2020 live performances, which saw Mr. Bungle playing to some of its biggest audiences ever. The album, which is a proper recording of Mr. Bungle’s much traded, yet unreleased, 1986 demo cassette of the same name, was declared “one of the best thrash albums of the year” by Decibel, Rolling Stone said “their reboot is a feast of ingenious riffs, unexpected tempo shifts, and pure manic energy…,” and Stereogum offered “...Mr. Bungle are reliving their very earliest days and kicking a whole lot of ass in the process.” Revolver featured Mike Patton on their Fall cover, saying “After 15 years of inactivity and 21 since their last album, avant-metal weirdos Mr. Bungle reappeared from the mists of time to re-record their 1986 demo. Not content to merely rehash their high school days, core trio Mike Patton, Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn enlisted help from Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. The result is - in the words of super fan Eric Andre - pure, awesome ‘carve 666 into your desk and get in detention' metal."
About Mr. Bungle
Mr. Bungle was formed in an impoverished lumber and fishing town by a trio of curious, volatile teenagers. Trey Spruance, Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn beget the amorphous “band” in 1985 up in Humboldt County, Calif., sifting through a variety of members until around 1989 when they settled on a lineup that managed to get signed to Warner Bros. Records. No one really knows how this happened and it remains a complete mystery that even the algorithms of the internet can’t decode. Up until 2000 they released three albums (Mr. Bungle in 1991, Disco Volante in 1995 and California in 1999), toured a good portion of the Western hemisphere and avoided any sort of critical acclaim. Some argue that the band subsequently broke up but there is also no proof of this. What is true is that they took 20 years off from performing under said moniker while they pursued various other musics that, in contrast, paid the rent.

@blppt
@blppt 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, not really. The double bass patterns aren't very fast. The guy playing them, Dave Lombardo, has played Silent Scream live before, and thats like constant 195bpm 16ths on the double bass. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftxzldaEu5jJppc.html Back when this first released though, I'm sure it was pretty fast. And Alex always has some remarkably tasty drumlines, but he wasn't the most skilled double bass player. I love his playing in Van Halen, though, especially the (single) bass drum work in Panama---its just freaking perfect.

@blppt
@blppt 3 жыл бұрын
@@craigharrison5406 This isn't 272bpm---its like 150 at best. 270bpm is super speed death metal territory. Only guys like Kollias or Inferno can play at that speed. Heck, Lombardo in his prime topped out at 248bpm (Necrophobic). Its very fast for the genre, yes.

@craigharrison5406 3 жыл бұрын
@@blppt Completely different than thrash metal. Alex used more swing music type of beats. Those lightning fast metal beats never sounded good to me, just very repetitive. My original comment wasn't meant as a challenge to metal drummers, I was just appreciating the beat of this track. BTW I play guitar not drums so a lot of the techinical drum jargon...I'm clueless about.

Been right at a year since Eddie died. Hard to believe. This should show you how badass Eddie was. Such a killer riff. In the original he is doing harmonics during the main riff. He didn't give a fuck. He knew he was the shit and he always played full fucking tilt WOT. Cheers my man. 🍺🍺

I remember I was 23 living in Sacramento, Ca -- at the time in some shitty 2 sometimes 3 man band. My drummer who I didn't know much about at the time ask me if I liked the song "something something can't remember" and I was like "wtf?", and he says "Epic"? He was younger and knew I would know of this hit. I said I loved that song and hell yes I remember. Want to meet Patton, the lead singer from Faith no more? That night I was being handed kits, amps, wtf ever else was coming out of a trailer to help Mr Bungle and return given a beer I faked drinking because I had to drive us back home from Sam's Town that night. I don't even remember my drummer's name atm, that was some years ago lol But if I did and Mike saw it he would remember, I am sure. It was an epic evening/night. I am 47 now :P

Not only this is from when VanHalen was experimental but, not a song that comes to mind when people say VanHalen. Thank you Mr Bungle for not only a great choice but, a great cover too. I knew the band would come through musically but, who would have guessed Mike has a little Dave in him? Then again Mr Patton, you never cease to amaze me after all these years. Bravo guys.

My head just exploded while I came to the stunning realization that Van Halen invented Speed Metal in 1980, and I was right there for it. As for this version: TOTAL MASTERY of the 2nd best VH song ever. (As you all should know, 1st Place goes to Sunday Afternoon In the Park/ One Foot Out the Door)

Same here! Yet no one talks about Loss Of Control, not even in a single underrated VH songs list I searched. But praises overrated mediocre songs like Jump and Dance The Night Away. I guess most VH fans don’t like Speed Metal.
