this song was the first thing you listened about the band in 1991, and in that moment it sounded so strange even if you was aware about alternative rock. it simply blew your mind. it felt scary, as in that time you hadn´t too much information without internet. the live at Club Lingerie - Los Angeles could be an interesting choice to put in context the attitude of the band in the beginning. for example, they begin the show just mocking about the artie attitude of jane´s addiction. it was all about deconstructing rock and metal commonplaces. so many bands like slipknot or korn were influenced by the crazyness of mr. bungle.

Mr Bungle were ahead of their time, many fans didn't get this album at first but it does grow on you like no other album. The changes inside one song is incredible and Bungle were so young when they started. Many will know that if it were not for Faith No More and Epic we would not know Bungle when we did as Mike was apologetically wearing Mr Bungle tee: There is a tractor in my Balls LOL.

Agree 100%, I was totally indifferent at first but the more I listened to it the more I liked it and now I'm just crazy about it lol I've never felt anything like it before, this has only ever happened with Bungle albums ❤️

One other thing...for this album, the theme was a comic called “Cotton Candy Autopsy” which was a really dark and disturbing story about a troupe of clowns with a carnival. A friend once called the album “Circus Metal”...and that’s pretty spot on. It’s dirty, greasy, shiny, sparkly, exciting, scary, and weird in all the ways a carnival can be.

Hey don't listen to the negative comments, a lot of us started out not really getting it, some just don't want to admit it but yeah l had to really try before I got into Bungle and I know I'm not alone on that one, it can just take time 😎 This song is a grower, you just need to listen to it some more, yeah I know I've said that before but you really do, I absolutely love this song now but it wasn't one of the ones I took to at first, but just love how it trasnsitions from the Jazz parts to the heavier parts, I think it's incredible . You are right about all the random noises, they literally walked around recording random sounds or breaking things and just added them to the songs lol Yeah and Mr.Pigtails is Trevor Dunn, literally my favourite human, he's so freakin talented, you can't really tell much from this song but the next one, watch out 😜 And that is Trey Spruance on guitar, love his energy and his ability to not fall off the stage while going crazy lol but yeah I prefer the live version too, that happens a lot with Bungle ❤️ Anyway I'm glad to hear you are starting to appreciate them and thank you for the reaction ❤️

I had to listen to Disco Volante and California before I really saw the consistency with Bungle. The 2nd time I listened to this album all the way through I loved it! Yeah it's kinda stupid in places admittedly (you've gotta lean into it tho!) But in other spots it's a lot of fun and often impressive. It's not my favorite of the catalogue, but it's a great miserably wonderous time of insanity! 😂👍

I first picked up this album having no idea Patton was involved. I was in high school, and already a Faith No More fan, but didn’t know he was involved in any other band since my family didn’t have internet. I grabbed this because I thought the cover was interesting. Right when heard his voice, I had to grab the sleeve. Vlad Drac? It has to be Patton! LOL! I knew it had to be him. I fucking lover it at the first listen. The band I was in at the time was starting to dissolve, and I wanted to put another project together. My idea was a band that switch styles constantly, and I wanted to call it A.D.D. When I popped this on the first time, I was like, shiiiiiiit, they beat me to it.

Hello, Roxx.:) This never really happened to me. :) I was immediately thrilled the first time I heard the self titled.:) ...Maybe it took me a while to understand the wildness of Disco Volante, but equally amazed by their talent, broadness, ingeniousness...:) True, true... :) It was just about the whole concept: it was all weird to me and new .:) This kind of creative freedom simply ... forever won my heart and placed them directly in legendary status. :))

I got my mom husband to appreciate bungle complexity the other day he was having a hard time identifying the pace changes and beat switches in Stubb. He says their music is very complex and creative but he doesn't like it lol so I understand what you said Jay it's isn't for everyone bungle does grow on you but only if you have a thing for this type of music. This is one of the only tracks I had trouble with when I wound binge this album. I rarely listen to it but I love them. :D and now I jam to them daily. 🎻🎶 also with FNM.

The live version aft least in 99-00 always (or all the times i heard it) had another song fill what was all those random sounds/outro on the album. They would cover a Bengali song "Ei raat tomar amar" and sing a line or two from Lauryn Hill"s that thing you do or j-lo's if you had my love and maybe even destiny child say my name.

Jay Rah's commentary on music elitism is spot on. One's taste in music is a very personal experience, and should not be subjected to judgement of anyone. Mike Patton fan boys (myself included) need to understand that much of Mr. Bungles repertoire is very eclectic, and certainly not for everyone. That said, I find Jay Rah to be more open minded than most, and JR has a good fundamental understanding of music composition, instrumentation, and song writing. He has often made insightful comments on the complexity of Bungle arrangements, despite not liking the song on a personal level. Just because you don't like the music, does not mean you don't appreciate the musicality. I feel the same way about Glen Campbell, incredible musician, just not a fan of the music personally.

When I think about all the more bizarre music I like, I dont sit there saying to myself, "oh, absolutely everyone will love this song, universally!" For one thing, indo not use exclamation marks when i speak. For another, my choice of going into music that is challenging to find songs that I like is an EXCLUSIONARY activity in & of itself. I can't then justify getting bitchy & butthurt because some other soul doesn't share my opinion. JR, no need to explain yourself. BTW JR, Roxanne, Mr. Bungle just released a freaking van halen song that gotdamned well sounds just like old van halen. Uncanny, seriously.

In the recording it's not a wah pedal, it's just a keyboard with a pitch bend wheel. I actually don't like what Trey was doing on the guitar for that part in this live performance. His guitar was way too loud and you can even see him try to signal to the sound guy to turn it down at the start. It also sucks that they cut off the end of the performance because they do a little cover of Lauryn Hill. The Air Conditioned Nightmare or Ars Moriendi from the same live performance are pretty great.

It’s one thing to not like something, it’s different to not recognize talent, Meshuggah is a good example of a band that I really like, and they are extremely talented, on another level talented, but a lot of my friends just can’t digest them, And I’m OK with that but to not understand how immensely talented they are is another thing, and most importantly who cares what somebody else says, do you think bro

Hey, Jay-O, my man, how`s it goin`?..:) That was cool, really cool! :) Glad you liked the song, I wrote to you earlier that I noticed a greater understanding coming from you to this old Patton team. It`s like you’re starting to understand what Bungle really is and what they actually do. :) Forget it, man, you don`t owe S.H., you don`t have to explain the matter of taste to anyone, it`s irrelevant. Hey, like, you noticed the bassist hanging out there on stage in a blue dress and with pigtails?:) For some it`s funny, for some - not at all. Some people think it weird to be dressed up like that on stage, especially if you are a man and playing some monstrous metal, right? :) But, you see, that also rises people`s eyebrows...:-) The other half of the audience would just think it`s all part of acting and performance and won`t give a sh...about it, they`ll give no such significance to it.:) But that`s OK too.:) Because it's visually unusual here, but it just illustrates - nothing but the MUSIC of this band. :) And we can clearly see how it works, hahah.. Which means the band is strange as it looks on stage.(wow, this rhymes:p) And - unbelievably, that`s the true nature of MR.Bungle! You can clearly picture it as a fun (and intelligent - but not by others - in itself!) Charade, a musical journey, almost like the Art Carnival, created as a product of a intrincical Way of Conduct, associated with one particular Thought that is hidden in each song separately, therefore - very diverse. That`s what they do - it`s really that simple: they constantly change their (so-called musical) clothes while they`re still on stage, trying to make the same effect as - striptease ... to abuse and arouse the senses! Well, spiritually, that`s the idea! :D It`s originality - for the acquired taste or not - but that really all to it.:) If you look more, this thing would just explode, there`s no more room for it, hahah... So.. That`s it.:) I hope Roxie will find the way to send you a link to another song from Bizzare Fest, the one you`ve already reacted to -`notorious`- My Ass is on Fire...:)) Only this time, a decade later, they played live with a totally "new clothes".... man, you gotta check it out, there`s electronic stuff and more, the new cuts and pastes, if you wanna put it like that...:D So... Enjoy, man. Roxie...this was brave.:)))) Ciao!

I *love* Bungle...but yeah. It is not for everyone in the slightest. I don’t judge anyone for liking or not liking a band, song, etc. The fact that you’re trying out the song, even after you didn’t get into other stuff? That’s speaks very highly of you. You seem like someone with an open mind, willing to see what experiences music can bring you. Serious props. Each Bungle album is 100% different than the last. Their 3rd album is actually pretty chill (as weird as that may sound).
