Basically the story of this album is it's a re-recording of a demo they made back in 1986 when they were teenagers back when they were just a metal band and didn't have the saxophones and other jazz elements in their band yet. Which is why this album is deliberately very 80s thrash sounding, they didn't try to rework the compositions or anything they decided to just recreate what they were doing when they were teenagers. They also recruited Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Scott Ian of Anthrax to help them because if you're going to relive your highschool years as musicians why not bring in two of the musicians that inspired you to pick up an instrument and have them join your band.

If this was released when it should have been in the early 80's they would have been in the top Thrash Metal bands with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax! This whole album is incredible to think it was written 35 years ago.

Dave Lombardo being the greatest thrash drummer of the era in my humble opinion

That's what makes Mr. Bungle so unique is that it is one big blender that works tremendously well.

This is a rerecording of their 1986 demo of the same name " the raging wrath of the Easter bunny ". They recruited dave Lombardo (slayer) on drums and Scott Ian (anthrax) on rhythm guitar, as in 1986 Mr. Bungle sounded more thrash at that time!

Love some Mr Bungle (even the early demo stuff). Another band I think you will really appreciate, always completely original is the Melvins. Mike Patton said "the Melvins aren't a band, they're a force of nature". Check out "Evil New War God", or "The War on Wisdom" or "Honey Bucket"...or any of the over 1200 songs they've put out since 1983 (and still putting out great albums)

Great review! It´s a re-recordingl of their 1986 demo The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny. The lead guitar is by Trey Spruance, the same guitar player since the begining of Mr. Bungle. They brought Scott Ian to make the rythm guitar.

The entire album was composed when they were teenagers. The guitarist Scott Ian explain that he had to see his doctor for pain at his hand. Doctor ask him: What are you doing? Scott: I am learning the hardest songs I ever played!!! 😂

While this was a recording of an earlier album, each album has it's own personality. California, an album that came out after the other one you reviewed, has a completely different vibe as well.

Got to see Bungle with Ian and Lombardo play Raging Wrath on both tours. Even got a pick from Scott after the first show.

"What's the hardest punk that's out there?" In my opinion, that would be grindcore. Check out some early Napalm Death. But yes, a lot of thrash (which is what I'd consider this Bungle track to be) was born from punk. There was also a genre called Crossover in the 80's that was kind of a mix between punk and metal. D.R.I., Cro-Mags, and some early Suicidal Tendencies stuff falls under that heading.
