Mr. Eko fitted so much into this show. He would been a great duo with John Locke.. It's a shame he died so early.

Probably one of the most unsung scenes on Lost. Amazing. Shame we couldn't see more of Eko's story arc.

The moment the Man in Black realises that he will not be able to manipulate Eko into killing Jacob for him. With this speech Eko made himself expendable to Smokey.

Eko was hands down the most intriguing character on Lost, more so than even the island brothers. A man that had no hang ups, a man that couldn't be manipulated anymore. Refused to play MIB's game point blank.

Eko summarizes life as it is for most of us. I did NOT ask for this life, but it was given nonetheless. And with it, I did the best that could. Frankly, isn't that ALL that "God" asks of any of us. To do the best with the life we have been granted...learn from our mistakes...repent for our sins (which simply means to be OFF the mark...not condemnation, disgrace, shame or guilt)...and change our course back towards the best path to forged given the circumstances!

This was a really important death but Mr Eko should never have been killed off. He was a really wasted character.

0:44. Eko makes his speech. Meanwhile Jacob (who can hear this with his powers) sighs in disappointment and scores Eko’s name off the wall. And now the smoke monster is free to to either eko what he pleases. In the 23rd psalm, Eko was still a candidate.

This scene show they planned the story since the beginning. Not every plot, but the purpose of the show and the monster. Remember that Man in Black believe that mans are evil. He test them. He show to them their fears to manipulate them, to show to jacob that he's wrong. The fact that the man in black say "I'M NOT YOUR BROTHER" consider how he was angry against his real brother Jacob, and the fact that Eko said "WHO ARE YOU?" .... + Eko in this same episode warned Locke about the monster that it's not a deity or a good thing despite Locke saw the afterlife in the monster (after all Man in Black was drowned into the light, so the afterlife, that's how he became the monster) and said to jack that it was beautiful. Locke didn't listen Eko...he was killed by Ben manipulated by the man in black...

The smoke monster/Mib/Lich/etc seems to be unable to kill any of Jacobs chosen candidates due to what can only be described as "the rules". but, being the devil figure he is, he finds loopholes, such as having one candidate kill another, or themselves. it seems however he was able to kill Mr Eko. the reason for that i feel, is that Eko was not sorry for what he did and viewed his past actions as necessary. he did not want to move on or "accept" Jacobs protection anymore, and moved on by himself, which removed him from the list, allowed him to be killed and why he was not part of the afterlife meet up with them. he moved on most likely happily to wherever his brother went

Eko does the opposite of atone. He refuses to atone or ask for forgiveness for his own choices and blames his circumstances instead. He literally says, "I ask for no forgiveness." He took no personal responsibility for his own actions and because of his refusal to acknowledge his wrongs he is judged by MIB and killed. Remember, MIB can't kill candidates unless they're no longer considered candidates.

As an atheist I really love Eko's sentiments here especially when he goes against the man of god archetype that's been built up. Many groups of people are told they are sinners and are bad for doing certain things. Though, often times those things we have no control over or they are mundane or do not necessarily define the sum of the person. Im not going to apologize to anyone or any god for living my life the way its been lived. I haven't sinned. Nothing I've done necessarily makes me a sinner or a bad person.

I love how Eko gets ricocheted by the smoke

i have to ishare something here and i am ok with all those who say i am off base.. but the thing is I have read a lot of stephen king and when jack kate and charlie visit the cockpit early in the 1st season and 1st encounter the smoke monster i couldn't help but get a sense of shardik the bear from the dark tower books...plus the fact that king uses the term dogan a few times through out his dark tower series.. there are other parallels as well

the reason the smoke (MIB) killed him, is because he could only use broken people... he needed people who had anger or a bad past, people he could manipulate, and when he saw eko past he tought "this is the perfect guy for me to use" but than... he was proven wrong, eko showed him that he was not a broken man... that he was a good man, and the MIB had no use for a good man, so he killed eko.

There is none that come to Christ, no, not one. Every thought and inclination of man's heart is evil continually. Some of you may say, how have I faulted then, for who has resisted his will? But no, shall the thing formed say to He who's formed it, why have you made me this way? We're saved by mercy from God. No one deserves it, for he didn't save us according to what he would see in us, but rather he had to "drag us" to believe. It's sad to hear Mr. Eko's speech.

@djinnguru... you might be on to something there.. we didn't know that smoke monster could take on the forms of dead people at this point in the series. We didn't know either that this wasn't yemi. We do know that this was shortly after eko faced down the smoke monster who had pulled a bunch of memories from eko yemi being the main memory. I think that had the actor who portrayed eko would have been mislead and would have been the one to have killed dogan rather then sayid

This was making me tear up. I'm still upset that he was killed off. I feel as if they merged some of Eko's future storyline with Sayid's.

Whyyy did MiB reject Eko's plea? Everything Eko said totally described the way that MiB thinks of himself. I'd think that MiB would understand Eko's place in life a bit, understand having to exist with a reality that was totally put upon by external forces and doing what could be done, even if it was ruthless.

This is the scene where Eko disqualifies himself as a candidate and thus his protection from Smokey is gone.

I always thought they wasted a character with a lot of potential when they killed off Eko. Especially after being presumed dead at the end of season 2, only to come back for like five seconds before actually dying.

What exactly did MiB want with eko btw? He kept taunting him and yet things never got anywhere..
