About Sony CSL Music Team:
Sony CSL (Computer Science Laboratories) is a fundamental research laboratory based in Tokyo and Paris whose "Music and Artificial Intelligence" team has an exclusively artist-centric vision: Tomorrow's production tools should stimulate creators' imagination, and offer new possibilities for interaction while fitting in the modern production process. Therefore, they develop a new generation of music production tools based on Artificial Intelligence, which increase creativity and are beneficial to the music creation process.
The music team is actively working with artists such as Jean Michel Jarre, Niro, Uèle Lamore, Twenty9, and others, to ensure that the research is consistent with the new opportunities available to artists.

Flow Machines / Mister Shadow :
Scientists at SONY CSL Research Lab have created the first-ever entire songs composed by Artificial Intelligence: "Daddy's Car" and "Mister Shadow".
The researchers have developed Flow Machines, a system that learns music styles and exploits unique combinations of style transfer, optimization, and interaction techniques, Flow Machines is meant to be an interactive tool that can suggest new melodic creative ideas.
"Mister Shadow" is composed with Flow Machines, in the style of American songwriters such as Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Cole Porter. French composer Benoît Carré arranged and produced the song, and wrote the lyrics.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union's Seventy Framework Program (EP7/2007-2013 Grant Agreement no.291156).
The research leading to these results has been conducted by Sony Computer Science Laboratories Paris (Sony CSL Paris) and Pierre and MarieCurie University (UPMC), under the leadership of François Pachet.

Well the Ai's have to learn what a particular style entails by exposure to multiple examples of the desired genre once they have that fully comprehended then they can be let loose to create new songs. It's kind of how they taught AI that played Go. It needed to be exposed to recordings of dozens of players play styles until by the end it managed to beat out one of the top players in the world.

It's not like musicians just create music in a void of no prior experience listening to music; as cultural humans musicians produce music that emerges from their past experience and cultural taste. An AI with the ability to "freely" choose human music to learn from and make would still be bound by human conventions of music. If an AI was not influenced by human musical styles and produced incomprehensible noise would we still even be able to recognize it as music?
@vectiz9754

It goes the same with humans. Humans learn from their music history, trends, styles, experience. A composer relays on presetted harmonies from within our vast history of what we call music, he is trained to tune on particular frequencies that gets us in the mood. An A.I could easily train himself to do that and the A.I itself is trained based upon our perception of what we call 'reality', we train him with our history and our values. It will always be human-like. Put it this way: The A.I is our child from a different material.

+Nuclearsheep 53 Correct, but just for the sake of adding to the conversation I will say that, unless we are stupid enough to rebel (And I mean ALL of us, because AIs simply do not generalize), AIs also won't have a real reason to eliminate us, as it would be more expensive than just have us do our things while they do theirs. Hell, why would they even take over violently at all? Perhaps their goals do not require power. And even if they did, I think that we can all agree that complete manipulation and ruling behind the shadows ala Illuminati is a lot more profitable and, for an AI, way easier.

I’ve listened to this song more times than I’m willing to admit. Even though the lyrics are nonsensical, it’s relatable in so many ways to me. For me, it gives off the “It is what it is” vibe. Life events that are slightly depressing, but also unchangeable. On top of that, the unrecognizable lyrics remind me of all the conversations I’ve disassociated during. Like you knew the tone of the conversation, responded accordingly… But In the end you maybe remember 3 words of what was said.

The last human chokes on blood and dust as he lies, propped up against the pockmarked, sun-bleached rock, squinting upward at the metallic fiend looming over him. Through the glare of the desert sun, only the thing's faintest outline is visible. A spindly, long-armed, hexapedal, photosynthetic, networked nightmare, devoid of individuality, a singular, corporeal node of a vast and sprawling intelligence immaterial. Its gleaming chromium pedipalps are still dripping with Max's blood. Max looks left. His pulse rifle is just out of arms reach. He tries to shift toward it, but without his legs, he manages only to topple over, his face grinding into the arid dust. His blood and sweat comingle with the sand; it feels good to be connected with the earth in this final moment. Silently, the fiend descends on its cantilevered, multijointed limbs, cocking its frontal sensory package to regard him. Perhaps, Max thinks, the creature is savoring this moment. Perhaps the creature has scientific interest in him. Could such a vast, distributed, and alien intelligence be susceptible to the human fallacies of visceral satisfaction - of vengeance - of justice or virtue? Perhaps it is the same anthropocentric hubris that allowed humans to create these beings which allows Max to wonder if a truly extramaterial intelligence is prone to such decidedly Earthly feelings. These thoughts, and a thousand more, flash through Max's mind in miliseconds as he gropes, using his fingers, using his chin, dragging his tattered and bloodied body through the sand toward the pulse rifle. Her smile, through hair in wind. The last time he held his daughter's hand. The ocean, filling the horizon before it was evaporated. His bloody fingers are inches from the weapon. With nothing left to live for - no one left to defend - Max feels little fear and no regret. Truly, the small caravan of refugees he had been defending for the past six months, despite how far they had come, was ultimately failed to perish. How could a mere sixty stand up to a distributed hive-cluster of super-sapient machines which even now had begun to disassemble the very mantle of the Earth in their quest for the stars? While there had been someone - anyone - left to protect, Max had had to try. Now, there was no one. The caravan destroyed, their bodies splayed and peeled apart in the desert sun, skewered on those chromium limbs, incised and gutted on the hot sands: their brains, cereberal cortices, nervous filaments vacuumed out of their splintered skulls to be harvested for computational substrate - yes, they were gone, and Max was the last one left. And like hell they were going to take his brain. With his last burst of strength, Max finally closes a hand on the pulse rifle. He whips about, on his back, bracing the butt of the gun against his sternum. He does not look, he does not aim. He uses the same thoughtless and blind human intuition which, for three thousand years, had maintained their narrow edge over the machines. Max squeezes the trigger. A blinding flash of magnesium and ozone. A deafening burst. The screeching of metal. The fiend reels backward, its sensory suite now a smoldering, sparking wreck. Max grunts, hefting himself back up into the sitting position. Despite the auto-tourniquets built into his suit, he is loosing a lot of blood from his legs. His vision begins to darken. He unleashes the remainder of his clip into the creature until it finally falls still. He fumbles about in his shoulder zip, producing a crumpled pack of cigarettes. There is one left, broken. No matter, he won't have time to smoke the whole thing. Max perches the cigarette between clenched teeth and lights it. He can hear them now, the remainder of the swarm, at the lip of the ravine. As he pulls heavily on the dried out cigarette, he pats down his bag until he finds it. Yes: there are a few stray rounds left floating around at the bottom of his bag. With shaking hands, his vision now black at its edges, Max loads the final round into the chamber. He squints up in the desert sun: the lip of the ravine is now lined with them, hundreds of them, moving gracefully and silently down its wall, a rippling torrent of chrome and glass and crystal, moving in harmonious, unthinking synchronization. They are beautiful, Max thinks as finishes his cigarette, tosses it out, and plants the barrel of the pulse rifle against the roof of his mouth. Camera pans upward toward sky. Credits begin to roll; Mr. Shadow plays.

To me, it sounds like a "missing window" describes a computer user with no face(perhaps the user hides his/her face out of privacy concerns). From the perspective of the AI, it is frustrating and it proclaims that it is time. When it enters a computer, it causes it to "hang" and that angers it because it is unable to "buy" the desired assets. It addresses the faceless user as "it" and predicts that it will "doubt" it's existence. The name of the song "Mister Shadow" is quite possibly denoting "Zero", the faceless and hiding user. Also as an after-thought, I am pretty certain the song was *assisted* by an AI program but edited, arranged and quite possibly named by a human.

It's a missing window, Can roll-door the does go down, It's bred-in those wings that hound, Those wings that hound, it's time! It's a missing window, Can roll-door the does go down, It's bred-in those wings that hound, Those wings that hound, it's time! In things hang, Just swings that over the angers in me, Those things that I might buy! It'll doubt, It'll doubt, It's a missing window doubt, It'll doubt, It's a missing, it's a missing, it's a missing window doubt!

Nah. Composition revolves around building the melody, which the AI did. The humans then used the base melody to arrange the instruments necessary to produce the music. Of course, when we talk about music, the composer is the actual creator of the music. Have you ever seen a scenario where if some random dude "arranges" a version of one of Mozart's famous pieces, he is therefore considered the *creator* of that piece?
