mr1upz has a crack at another Pokemon Tier List ranking all Pokemon Rivals. Every Pokemon Rival outside of the anime at least. All of your hometown rival trainer best friends or maybe just the forced family friends you had to hang out with cause your mum knew them. All the way from Kanto Champion Blue, to Team Rocket's unlikely successor Silver, to that jobber from Kalos Tierno, remember him? Yeah Nah, same here until now. Silver literally steals starter Pokemon, Tierno delivers the best starter Pokemon straight to your front door. There's levels to the strongest pokemon rivals... and OH BAYBEE definitely the worst pokemon rivals...
I've sorted out ranking pokemon league trainers. Many of the Pokemon rivals are part of the Gym Leader, Elite Four, Champion gauntlet as challengers, so I guess they're part of the whole ranking every pokemon league trainer thing I've got going on. No clue how some of them made it that far being the 2nd weakest Pokemon trainer in your hometown at best. Few of them actually manage to become Pokemon League Champion, clearly far from the worst pokemon rivals if they made it as far as you have and can actually compete against you (In most cases?). But does that make those Champion trainers the strongest pokemon rivals necessarily?
Sorting out the best Pokemon trainers has somehow taken me this long, had it in the chamber for a while now somehow. Must've got burnt out on all that grilling I had to get done for the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champions ranked for me to have taken this long. It's about time I sorted out the Strongest rivals in Pokemon. Maybe I'll get around to making an Ash strongest rivals video one of these days if I can somehow digest all of that content, I've only got one 1000 episode franchise in me and I've already cashed it in on One Piece.
I know well enough the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC is gonna introduce some new rival trainers just like Sword and Shield did. Are those new trainers Carmine and Kieran DLC Rivals? Whatever, I'll get around to those Kitakami region jobbers another time. Which of the childhood menaces will reign supreme?

silver has such a good arc too, he was genuinely confused why he kept losing and its so satisfying to see him realize that its his attitude and how he treats his pokemon and the crazy good subtle nod to this when his golbat finally evolved into a crobat

Then if you add masters in, he actually continues that arc. He becomes worthy of Ho-Oh, ends up facing off against Giovanni multiple times and looses most of them because of his need to beat him on his own, eventually learning to rely on others when necessary. He also gives a nod to N when helping him try to reconcile with Ghetsis (which goes the way you'd expect). There's other parts where he show up and continues that arc from gsc, while still keeping his rough personality, but meaning well

Hell yeah crobat and sneasel. Although you know koga the poison ace? He should have used more bug Pokemon showing a skill in using speed, spider web, toxic and double team. Koga should have used Scizor and fortress. Or Beedrill. He's stronger than ariados.

Hugh is the only rival who actually feels like a childhood friend. He doesn't feel the need to coddle you because you already know each other better than to need that, and he doesn't build his goals around you because to him, YOU'RE the rival and HE is his own person. He actually feels like a part of a bigger world than just you.

Fun fact about barry, he has the highest level team across all the rivals, and the only non-battle facility NPC's with higher level pokemon, are red's pikachu, and cynthia's garchomp in the remake.

Yeah, not even just rivals, Barry has quite literally the second or third-highest leveled team in the entire franchise (depending on how you look at it due to the top two having the same level cap). To put this in perspective; his starter Pokemon at its strongest is level 85, which out-levels *Cynthia's Garchomp* at its strongest in the same game by a total of *7 entire levels.* Barry was the strongest trainer in the franchise until Red out-leveled him in HGSS by a total of only 2 levels. Cynthia in BDSP ties Red at _slightly_ out-leveling Barry by just 2 levels. Maybe the craziest thing is that Barry's level cap is LITERALLY THE SAME as LGPE's verison of Red. Let that sink in. Barry is nearly equivalent to one depiction of the o.g. protagonist who fills the same role as a superboss in any game that he appears in as an NPC. I feel like people really don't give enough credit to how powerful of a trainer Barry really is.

For some reason a lot of people love to toss “dead Raticate” theories thanks to his appearance there, since they assume he’s mourning, but his dialogue suggests anything but. "Hey, ! What brings you here? Your Pokémon don't look dead! I can at least make them faint! Let's go, pal!" "How's your Pokédex coming, pal? I just caught a Cubone! I can't find the grown-up Marowak yet! I doubt there are any left! Well, I better get going! I've got a lot to accomplish, pal! Smell ya later!" Mans was just there to fill up more of his Dex and say, “Heh, I can’t kill your Pokémon, but at least I can scuff ‘em up here! Don’t care where we’re at, we’re throwin’ hands.” Blue also goes out of his way to essentially solve the entire Silph Co puzzle that Team Rocket set up to fortify their takeover, but instead of actually *doing* something to help, he purposely waits in the LAST room before Giovanni just to surprise you and knock you down a peg to see if you’ve even got it in you to beat him yourself. He basically makes it harder on you, since he softens you up for him beforehand and just says he was here to gloat that he got all his badges and is gonna start making his way to the League… while you’re distracted saving a whole town from the literal mafia. Couldn’t be bothered to help save people’s lives, he’s got a League to beat! Oak even calls him out after you beat him in his Champion fight that at some point during his journey, Blue went from being some cocky jerk to someone who genuinely lost sight of himself and forgot to treat his Pokémon with trust and love. Blue is then humbled and self-reflects for a few years, which is why he’s more mature in Gen 2-onward. NOW he’s more of an overly cocky friend. The anime didn’t gaslight anything. Gary goes through a similar arc where he goes from being mean-spirited and ballin and swagged out to a cartoonishly extravagant degree, to humbling himself and maturing and growing as a person while still keeping his cocky attitude. He mellows out a bit and becomes a Pokémon researcher, but still knows how to take the piss out of a situation when he feels like it.

He probably knew full well Team Rocket had been murdering Marowak for their operation since the whole town had been talking about it, but all he can say is “Eh, I was just here to catch a Cubone. Can’t find any Marowak, though. Doubt there are any left! Hah, later, loser!” Pretty insensitive, and it boggles my mind why people think he was here to mourn a Pokémon the player somehow *accidentally* killed on the S.S. Anne. Makes for a cool headcanon or a what-if story, but that’s it. Gen 1 pushed you and your rival to complete the Dex more than any other game, and Blue shows off how many Pokémon he’s caught multiple times. He clearly just shoved it in the PC or something while changing his team up with better mons. That said, Blue’s still my favorite rival too. That attitude he had really helped motivate you to wipe that smug smirk off his face, and I love how he develops and grows as a person without losing any of his personality. He’s still smug and cocky, but he’s clearly not a genuine dickbag about it anymore and knows when to give respect where it’s due. He’s not lobotomized out of his personality traits like how other rivals end up. I also totally agree with you that he’s just a cocky friend that needed some humbling to learn some empathy. He’s not a *terrible* person, but he had some growing to do.

If you think about it, Cheren and Bianca are the living portrayals of truth and ideals. Bianca accepts the TRUTH that she can't be a great trainer and decides to search for her true path in life throughout her journey, wheras Cheren pursues his IDEALS and perseveres to become the best trainer he he could be.

Honestly I respect Shauna for being one of the few rivals with a pseudo legendary, even if is Goodra aka the less intimidating pseudo. As for me, Nemona is my favorite she is the best of the friendly rivals by far imo.

Rolf and Josh Peck were the last impressions I was expecting, but you manage to knock it out of the park every time. Your witty script-writing, narration, and banter bar none puts most Pokémon KZfaqrs to shame. Nemona is definitely a top 5 for me, literally just if goku was a pokemon trainer and she's got a fun team to fight against. She even chooses the weaker starter against you just cause if she went all out we'd be cooked so she goes easy on us just to make it interesting.

What exactly was his arc again? Realizing that he isn’t the best at Pokémon battles so he quits being a trainer altogether and decides to become a professor without any education or a degree? (though all Sonia needed was a lab coat). Despite his Pokemon levels being quite obviously high in the post game?

Let's be honest, the whole Kalos region was done dirty. Even Lysandre, the main villain, and Diantha, the Champion, weren't given the respect they deserve. Lysandre was serviceable but still had a lot of missed potential. Diantha was completely screwed over because in terms of her Pokemon selection, she could be a legit challenge, but the developers gave her Pokemon movesets and abilities that don't bring out their full potential. Who the hell gives Head Smash to a Strong Jaw Tyrantrum and doesn't teach Hyper Voice to Refrigerate Aurorus and Pixilate Mega Gardevoir? Heck, Gourgeist could have been legitimately hard to deal with if it had Will-O-Wisp and Leech Seed to compliment how bulky it can be. Perhaps the only character who was actually taken seriously was AZ. His story was legitimately heartbreaking and he wasn't really designed to be a powerful trainer as much as a very old, very lonely soul. When you smack him down at the end of the main game, it's not as much about overcoming a powerful trainer as it is simply giving AZ a reason to live again. Also, where the fuck is Mega Rapidash? That should have been in the first wave of Mega Evolutions. Just make it a flaming Alicorn with Magic Guard and watch it wreak havoc with no recoil Flare Blitz and Wild Charge whilst also being immune to Stealth Rock.

I knew before this video even started that Tierno and Trevor would be at the ass bottom of the list. I haven't even played gen 8 and 9 and I knew rivals couldn't get any worse than those two. Also, Shauna's commentary had me dying 😂

Something interesting about both klara and Avery is that both of the types they use match up nicely against the dojo, with poison and psychic both resisting fighting and psychic hitting it for super effective damage
