I ride across the country on a motorcycle and tell the side history of people and places. The Story behind the story so to speak. I am the Paul Harvey of the motorcycle world. Today we look at Redcliffe Plantation . Once owned by the family of James Henry Hammond This plantaion is one of several owned by Hammond. It was 400 acres when in use but now 386 acres of the plantation have been donated to the South Carolina State Park System as an historic site. The sited is complete with the MAIN HOUSE, two Slaves quarters, Stables, and many acres of beautiful trees. The house boast 4000 + artifacts.

I am fortunate to be part of such a fabulous team with a well-sourced interpretive plan and a clearly defined mission to bring this complex and difficult history to light. Bravo!

I am especially interested in this particular document because I am a third great grandaughter of James Henry Hammond. I currently reside in South Florida and can not wait to visit Redcliff one day in the near future. I am fascinated with my ancestors, thank you so much for putting this together and sharing. Great video, love the bloopers hey if we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at. Loved the history even if you don't like some of it as historians you and I know we must learn it so we don't repeat it. Keep up the great work my friend.

Fun fact: Dr. Oscar Hammond was my great-grandfather.

It's sad that Hammond more or less ruined the lives of some of the women and children who lived on his estate due to his sexual proclivities. He might have been a successful man but he sure wasn't principled.
