Franklin BBQ: A Texas BBQ Legend
Franklin BBQ, an iconic name in the world of smoked meats, has become synonymous with top-tier Texas barbecue. This legendary restaurant, located in Austin, Texas, was founded by Aaron Franklin and his wife Stacy in 2009. What started as a humble food trailer has grown into a BBQ powerhouse, drawing enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.
A Brief History:
2009: Franklin BBQ began its journey in a small trailer on East 11th Street. Aaron Franklin, a self-taught pitmaster, quickly gained a reputation for his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality.
2011: The success of the trailer led to the opening of a brick-and-mortar location on 900 East 11th Street, where Franklin BBQ continues to serve its legendary BBQ today.
Awards and Recognition: Over the years, Franklin BBQ has garnered numerous accolades. It has been featured in major publications, including Texas Monthly, which has repeatedly named it the best BBQ in Texas. Aaron Franklin himself received the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest in 2015, a testament to his mastery of the craft.
What Makes Franklin BBQ Special:
The Brisket: Often hailed as the best brisket in the world, Franklin's version is a succulent, smoky masterpiece that melts in your mouth. Aaron Franklin's technique involves a careful balance of smoke, time, and temperature, resulting in a perfectly rendered brisket.
Other Meats: While the brisket is the star, Franklin BBQ's menu also features incredible options like jalapeño cheddar sausage, smoked turkey, pork ribs, and pulled pork, each prepared with the same level of dedication.
Sides and Sauces: Complementing the meats are classic sides such as slaw, potato salad, and pinto beans. Franklin's unique sauces-espresso, original, vinegar, and spicy-enhance the flavor profile, providing a perfect pairing for the smoky meats.
The Experience: Part of the charm of Franklin BBQ is the experience. Fans often line up for hours before the doors open, creating a sense of camaraderie and anticipation. The wait is as much a part of the tradition as the food itself, making each visit a memorable event.
Legacy and Influence:
Franklin BBQ has not only set the standard for Texas BBQ but has also influenced a new generation of pitmasters. Aaron Franklin's dedication to his craft and willingness to share his knowledge through cookbooks and masterclasses has cemented his place as a BBQ legend.
Visiting Franklin BBQ:
If you find yourself in Austin, Texas, a visit to Franklin BBQ is a must. Prepare to join the line early, bring your appetite, and get ready to experience some of the best barbecue the world has to offer.

A lot of people make fun of America for not actually having “American” food, and that the popular “American” food is just cuisines originating from other countries. But right here, this is a cuisine no other country does better than America, and that’s BBQ.

All the people fighting over who has the best BBQ - let's be real here, any of these places you go to will be terrific. One place might have better ribs, one might be better at the brisket or burnt ends, one might have better sides or desserts. For me, the best is still Terry Black's followed by Franklin's and Goldies and a couple of other places you haven't been to which I think are better than any of them but that's neither here nor there lol but again, ANY of these places and you will get amazing foods.

Even MORE ridiculous is the argument of which regional style of BBQ is better . I grew up outside of St. Louis , we always had grilled pork steaks with Maul's sauce . As an adult , I have traveled all over the country , and tried BBQ in all of the regions - - Carolina , Texas , Memphis , Alabama white , and others that are not as well known . Saying that one region is better than another is like picking a favorite child - just dumb to try to do so . All are great - all are unique - all are worth exploring !

Agree with everything you said. When people ask me who’s the best BBQ in Austin, I often have to follow up with, “what are you hungry for? Turkey, pork ribs, beef ribs, brisket, pork belly? There is not one place in which everything is the best. But they are all close enough that I won’t be mad if we go anywhere of them.
@LordLOC
@LordLOC Ай бұрын
@@marlounbayari1288 I mean there's that food truck in Austin (or maybe they got a restaurant going now, I'm not sure) that fuses Texas BBQ with Egyptian cuisine. I mean, that's pretty awesome. There's something for everyone, literally. It's like going to NYC (or any of the 5 boroughs really) and being super overwhelmed with the amount of choice for almost any kind of cuisine you can imagine. It's crazy, just like BBQ is in Texas etc.

Texas toast is just thick cut white bread that tou can make a toast that stands up to sauced meats .... Mrs. Baird's sells Texas toast at the grocery store. It's just great for toasting because you can toast it and get a crunchy outside that is still nice and soft in the middle because of its thickness

Classic dad humor in the intro XD Oh and Mr. H, I know you're going along your own barbecue journey and I'm not sure what type of wood you can locally use or if you're getting your wood from a vendor but don't worry about using specific woods! Experiment with different ones to find the flavor that you like! Post oak, cherry, maple, mesquite, pecan, hickory, etc! Some woods are not recommended for smoking and could actually be toxic (I believe cedar can be toxic, pine? as well (I'm not too sure but the info is out there)) but it might be worth it to even try a local variety of wood as well! True UK Barbecue!

I know you guys weren't expecting that flavor with the espresso BBQ sauce. You should know that American's will try combining flavors like coffee into other things that no one else would think of. I don't know if they still make it, but a few years back Coca Cola decided to put coffee with vanilla or caramel flavoring into their coke. I remember the first time I tried it I was really confused as to what was going on with the flavors. I definitely tasted the vanilla/caramel and the coffee, but at the end you could taste the coke. It was good, but whenever I drank it, I was always confused because for 30+ years of my life, those flavors were never mixed together.

They make exceptional BBQ. Really, our entire state makes great BBQ. Post oak is extremely popular wood, but you'll also run into mesquite, hickory, and then the fruit woods, like Applewood and cherry. Pecan is underrated to use, and we will sometimes use small amounts of it and cook peach cobbler, and pecan bars on the grill/smoker. It isn't too smokey, but just has a hint of an outdoor/campfire dessert feel to it. My grandma used to make a homemade ham with something called red eye gravy, which is a darker and thinner (typically) gravy made with brewed coffee. It is fantastic. Sometimes she would add some of it to a pot of beans and we'd eat it with homemade cornbread and beans. You can add a cornstarch slurry to thicken it with a neutral flavor if you want. Dip some bacon in that and put it on top of a cheeseburger and it will change your life. You just can't beat great homemade food with good friends and family.

Each BBQ place has a slight difference in taste. Whether it is the seasoning, type of wood used, sauces. or quality of meat. The BBQ place I worked for did not use "smokers", they used a "Pit" BBQ. It took even longer to cook, but still gave that great smokey flavor. The hardest part of loving GOOD BBQ, is many shops around my area now use "Electric" smokers. That "fake" liquid" smoke stuff and briquette coals instead of real wood. Its cheaper, but not NEARLY as tasty. Once you taste those true wood smoking places, you get picky at lower end spots. Love your vids as always. Safe travels!!

I have a great place in the Chicago area 2 blocks away for brisket, pulled pork and Chicken in a place called "Hog Wild". But what I don't have that you have in Britain or Ireland is a proper place for good Fish and Chips, for some reason they just can't do it here. I only get to go home to Ireland every two years for a brief time to pig out on breakfast, black pudding especially, Fish n' Chips mushy peas, slathered in malt vinegar, Periwinkles, Rashers etc. love your Channell guys keep on doing what you're doing, I also love watching Beard meat's food, check out his Channell.

That isn’t “Texas Toast” it’s just plain old white bread that is often served with BBQ. Texas Toast is thick and toasted. Some BBQ places if you order a lot of meat will pretty much just toss in a regular loaf of bread as it came from the grocery store. Many will make a BBQ sandwich using the pickles and onions.

@@Mrhandfriends if you’re coming to Oklahoma, check out Braums. Dinner special is 1/2 lb jalapeño cheeseburger, crinkle fries, & drink or shake or malt for $8.95. Breakfast is good as well. I like the Spanish bagel omelet on an everything bagel.

Oklahoma BBQ sauce is Head Country. My favorites are hickory of chipotle. They’re available everywhere in Oklahoma & states nearby.

That's not Texas toast; it's just plain sandwich bread. It's a standard thing in Southern bbq restaurants to serve white bread with the meal to either make a sandwich or to sop up bbq sauce. Some even serve it before the meal for just that reason.
