Getting kicked off of SNL should have been on there. Along with their 'top Christmas song' in the UK years after they broke up. Plus the related incident with the BBC when the did a live set. The Beeb asked them to please not swear. They played Killing in the Name. There was only one way that was going to turn out, lol.

I think overthrow was the right term, but contextually we, as westerners might have assumptions that overthrown, is violent or radical. When the act of voting and protesting is intended to overthrow systems. The U.S. in particular is built upon a premise that if the government has failed citizens should have resources to attempt to overthrow it. I say that knowing full well who was meant to be considered a citizen during the founding. I think a challenge without action leads to ineffective discourse and the same cycles repeating.

@plagueatheart
@plagueatheart Жыл бұрын
@@oddbjorn1696 true but you can with protests. I also count voting with money in the US for better or worse you have more power and influence with how you spend money than a vote. Or course it only applies to non essential items.

Completely agree, overthrowing can occur by a politician opposing views and wants of a current political climate. I think Zack uses sharp verbal hyperbole to grab attention but his message wasnt to incite violence.
@32Omicron32
@32Omicron32 Жыл бұрын
The issue with the ballot is trying to convince a willfully ignorant populace to do the right thing when its just so much easier to vote for the incumbent or party candidate. When its so much easier to say "All politicians lie" than to hold them accountable. On top of this, the current "structure" is getting more and more locked in with extremely biased news agencies catering to what their viewer wants to hear. Our RIGHTS are being taken away from us more so than previous years and while one party facilitates the striping the other stands idly by. It will take a major shock to the system to even form a crack in the structure all the while those that lead will say and not do. Unfortunately, shocks to the system have a tendency to end in tyranny and bloodshed, almost as if it the natural state. It takes rare and certain types of individuals, like Washington, to not only deny too much power but to even decrease their own power for the good of the people. And while many can say they would it is even harder to tell apart those that actually will. I hate to say it but I think MOST people in our country(the US) do not have the energy or desire to learn how to do this and accomplish it. This is especially true when those that have the means, typically the rich and middle class, are either a part of the problem or benefiting from it as is the case for the very rich, or are being slowly irradicated economically (middle class shrinkage) to the point of neither having the ability to or the power to do anything about it. Zack knows the history of "overthrowing" and doubt he was using the term loosely. Unfortunately, overthrowing in a non-violent means is also a rare occurrence seldom seen in history. Even if there is violence the result can come quicker, and has a chance to be better than what came before, but again historically, it is rare. So non-violence is the better route but results come much slower and it is still a pretty fine tightrope to walk.

Question and challenge your empire for sure. But Zack's absolutely right. If American society _will not_ reform to benefit people over profits, then it must be replaced by one that will. Zack, and people like myself, understand that a society using private gain to motivate production will _always_ drift towards concentrating wealth and power in very few hands at the expense of everything else. (Not just people, but entire cultures and even the planet itself.) Every benefit gained by the people will be clawed back in one form or another. So unless you genuinely think that capitalism can be securely chained to our benefit (a fool) or that capitalism can be voted out (a sympathetic fool), then the US is one of those societies that cannot be reformed and must be replaced by a society with genuine progressive potential.

Well I appreciate and agree with you on wanting a peaceful solution to ending to oppression in this country and reaching the goal of equality, I truly do, but at the same time, how much oppression and greed are we, as a country, to accept from the ruling class? How much squalor, bad health, injustice, bigotry and racism are individuals supposed to accept while only peacefully resisting, before it's acceptable to violently resist? I understand your "mother" analogy, but what if our mother has a severe addiction problem, and on the daily put our health and safety at risk, even actively causes us harm, solely to feed her addiction? How do we keep peacefully trying to push back against that when we have no means to escape that environment, lets say randomly like...moving to Spain? - 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔽𝕚𝕗𝕥𝕙 ℂ𝕠𝕝𝕦𝕞𝕟

@@Circusflea00 you realise they're not pop punk right? They're Alt Rock pretty big difference, if you don't know Devil in a Midnight Mass is about the Catholic Church diddling little boys and keeping them quiet, most of their music deals with world issues and of course to reel in a different audience they sprinkle in some heartbreak songs and story songs not about highschool but about loosing a first love in white sparrows or watching the person you love get away with murder and arson in when love was still around, in recent years they've kinda leaned into a more chill sound but the songs are still the same they aren't 30 year olds complaining about how hard it is to be 16 they aren't exactly like RAtM but have songs clearly inspired by them even in interviews saying they're inspired by them and in some events covering Bulls on Parade, the point is they aren't pop punk you can't compare them to a genera when they've never touched it with 10 foot pole

Overthrow doesn’t necessarily mean replacing the system, but perhaps just changing those in power and implementing life in a different way. The system is good, but never done in a just way. Replace those in power with those that will do it justice.

The most unforgettable moment was raging against Capitalism for 20 years, then headlining Coachella for $200 a ticket.

Logically that fact doesn´t imply by itself any contradiction with their political views. There is a thing called context you know.

You mind if ask why you consider yourself a patriot? I'm a citizen of 2 nations and don't consider myself a patriot in either place. I consider myself a citizen, a voice etc. but never a patriot. i feel like patriotism is a slippery slope to nationalism and there's no excuse for that unless you're oppressed. my 2 nations are oppresive around the world... no reason to be patriotic about that. I love my countries... but i'm not a patriot. i don't do the flag thing or sing the stupid fucking songs. I believe both could be better.

It's weird. Why isn't there any music about black people enslaving other black people? Oh wait there already is, it's what hip hop and rap has turned into😂

Although I enjoyed some of Rage's music they are hypocrites bc the very machine they were raging against made them very very rich so I guess they didn't really have much to bitch about ✌️🤘
