Nothing wrong with that. I got into D&D more because I loved to read the lore an history of different settings like the forgotten realms, dark sun, and even Ravenloft settings, or even just reading the many different monster manuals. @@giga9955 Well get yourself a player manual, DM manual, and a monster manual. Maybe one of the beginners adventures. Than ask your friends if they would like to play, though I would give yourself some time to get familiar with the rules and story, than set one day to have them make their characters an play the game the next day. I have found that many times most people actually like playing D&D once they actually get into the game/story. The issue is when you have a whole group whiteout any idea of what they are doing leading to alot of disaster.

@@giga9955 Afew points. Have a reference sheet at hand so you do not need to look thru the manuals as often. Like a work up of how the attack rolls work, how ability checks, general write up of the monster's or character's info (hp, stats, abilities). This will give you a quick way of keeping the game running, and only if you absolutely need to have to go into the manual (this can take awhile). Also these write up can be given to other players in your group that want to dm a adventure to help them like it will help you. Feel free to message me if you have any other question, and i will do my best to help.

@@giga9955 I might also add that the DM's Screen is a simple thing, but can help so much to remember the little things. I'd also suggest finding a random group for you to try D&D out and mostly get used to the rules and such than to DM cold turkey. 😅 P.s. I've heard that the Final Fantasy games were inspired by D&D, the Elder Scrolls series can play much like D&D, Neverwinter is an free MMO version of D&D, and there have been MANY D&D PC games in the past with the top-down isomorphic ones being closest to D&D as far as video games get. 😃

so do we assume that the hydra super regenerates from it's super tough body base, but eventually dies when all the heads are cut, because it can no longer breathe?

8:33 I give that shield a 7 out of 12. Its concept works, the right size to cover the body in a way that it can have enough thick layers to withstand high level blows without being too heavy. But for its design giving it a palm handle makes it a bitch to balance holding it into your natural blocking position. Use a wrist strap to avoid getting jarring pains.

Hey Rhexx, I know you’ve done a video on aboleths and mind flayers which I loved, but you’ve only briefly mentioned primordials and the elder evils. I would love if you did a series similar to your god or monster series for them. Great video, learned a lot about hydras!

I guess managing to tame a hydra and mounting a balista on it would be a great way to outfit a dragonslayer caravan. Would be an interesting hook in a campaign; Have your characters come across this caravan as it passes through the area and let them learn that hydras become much more compliant and easy to train if you feed them true dragon meat - the only thing that suppresses their endless hunger . . . . . then when you let them go on a couple dragon killing quests and their hydra pets are getting fat and happy, they can learn that they are actually helping to "resurrect" Lernaea as a minor god of hydras, dragon hunters, and revenge. Will they keep hunting dragons even knowing the potential consequences? Will they embrace this strange emerging religion or fight against it not wanting another potentially evil god akin the Tiamat let loose on the world? Would be really solid for a mid level campaign with legs into the higher levels.

If I were to write a hydra, what I’d do is have each head have its own brain, but they’re so well connected by the spinal chords that it’s functionally one big brain, until the heads are cut off. If a hydra head is severed but still kept alive, it can function as an individual, but quickly goes insane after losing the connection with the other brains. Alternatively, the more generic route of one brain in the body if I don’t feel like working out he logistics of many-brain-one-big-brain that day

@@shawnlynch7595 yeah, I thought about that. Each tentacle kind of has a mini brain, doesn’t it? I think that would be basically the same as the many-brain-one-big-brain, just one big spread out brain

In Hungarian folktales, we do have multi-headed dragons which aren't hydras. Namely, we have the Three Headed Dragon (most famous/iconic), the Seven Headed Dragon, the Twelve Headed Dragon, and the Twenty-Four Headed Dragon (the biggest and the most powerful, obviously). The visual depictions vary greatly with each story, but everyone just agrees that they're dragons. When talking about the Lernaean Hydra, we sometimes refer to it as the Hundred Headed Dragon, or Infinite Headed Dragon.

It says they can only hold their breath for an hour but really only one head needs to come out of the water for a breath every hour. So it can effectively cave dive small air pockets, and “snorkel” and keep its other heads and body underwater forever. It wouldn’t have to go to shore to sleep.
